Q: what does a #12 copper wire look like and waht does a #14 wire look like if you got pictures post a link thanks
In recent years, much of the 12 gauge wire is being wrapped in yellow pvc, while the 14 gauge is still being wrapped in white. Side by side it's easier to tell. 12 is thicker and more difficult to work with, bend and such. Also, spools of wire have the gauge and other identifying characteristics laser printed on them at regular intervals.
Q: voltage regulater wires get hot when bike runs 86 yamaha v max. why do they do this?
If the wire connectors at the regulator are corroded or not making a good connection, that can cause the wires to get hot. On my Kaw, I ended up having to remove the connectors and solder the ends together to keep them from getting hot enough to melt the plastic surrounding the connectors.
Q: I bought these speakers and I was wondering what kind of wiring do I need to get to wire them to the amp?

Q: Just got a 540 wat sound system but the speaker wires are only 5 feet, so I want to add about another 10 or 15 feet.
Any half decent system the speaker wires should not be hard wired so just replace them. To splice the wires , twist the corresponding wire together, solder and then insulate with good electrical tape or heat shrink. Still better to replace all the speaker wire. For a 540 watt system use 14 or 12 gauge wire and proper ends ( pin , banana or lug) which ever your amp and speakers require, not just twisted wire. For this gauge of wire too much of a chance of a short, if not now , in the future.
Q: What do you use to seal up the hole in the OUTSIDE wall where the cable TV and telephone wires and electrical wires all go thru? I want to replace my telephone wire coming in to the house, because I have DSL and it is really slow. I figured it couldn't hurt to replace the 45 year old wire coming in! :D I'm gonna use the best wire I can find (ANY SUGGESTIONS on what kinda wire to get? :D) to go from the telephone box outside to the DSL jack, but I need to no what to use to seal up the outside hole, when I rip out whatever is plugging it up now! :DThanks! ~Cindy! :D
Depending on the size of the hole, you should be able to fill it with silicone sealer. If it's brick you will need to get the mortar type. If it's a big hole you may need a lot more repair than what we can go over here.
Q: Question about the 3.5mm cable, I cut it open and there are 4 individual wires inside of it. I've only ever seen 2 wires and a loose one. Which ones are right/left and would the other 2 both be ground? The colors are red/green/white/black. I'm assuming the red/white are right left like normal? But I'm not too sure.
General audio wire color standards: White/Black are ground. Red is Right+ and Green is left+. There are separate wires needed for headphones, and often the ground wire breaks causing the wire to otherwise completely fail. Mono is left only (the tip) + Ground. The wire can usually be replaced with standard 4 wire phone (16-18 Ga) cable, when used for headphone (low power) applications.
Q: Can your use the power wire that they sell at home depo to do the big three upgrade or is it better to just get wire from a car audio store?
the wire from homedepo will work alight its just not real flexible but it will work
Q: i need to make a battery powered light bulb and i have copper wire at home...will it work?
Copper wire is rather orange in color. If it is insulated it will be surrounded by a coating of plastic for its entire length. If you cut it and then look at its end the copper wire should be in the middle with the insulation around it like a doughnut. Insulation can be of any color and is not always plastic. The copper wire itself can be either solid and made up of a single strand, or stranded and thus composed of numerous much smaller diameter strands. Stranded wire is more flexible and is the type used commonly for lamps, but sold copper wire, although stiffer, will work as well.
Q: electrical wire prices
Doh!! The reason the prices of wire follow the prices of oil, the outer jacket of Wire is Plastic an oil based product, Thus the reason oil goes up so does the prices of wire.
Q: Okay so bought 2 Kicker Comp C12-8 subs they are single voice coil, and I bought the Kicker DX300.2 amp. I would like to parallel wire thes subs to have a 4 ohm load, But I don't totally get the concept of it. Could somebody explain it, or show me a diagram, or video, or something?
