- Q: Phone wire outside was old is anybody done that, do it your self put a new wire on?, Just curious to know..
- anything after the demarcation (demarc) is your problem, anything on the telco side of the demarc is the local telco's problem. on your side, you can basically do what ever you want, but if you do it wrong, the telco has the right and OBLIGATION to disconnect your service. There are many sites on the internet that can instruct you in the Bell Standard Practice to wire your own phones. Just maintain the BSP and all will be right with the world.
- Q: From my ceiling fan I have the following wires: green, white, blue and blackFrom my ceiling I have a bunch of wire in each of these colours: brown, red and orange.Which wires do I connect with each other??
- These are all probably hot-side wires. If you have the knowledge and the tools, find out which wire or wires is/are hot in the box with the switch off. If you have no idea what I am talking about, you REALLY need to find someone who knows electricity. BTW, the wires in the fan are quite simple to decode. The green wire is the ground and attaches to either the box or a ground wire in the box. The white wire is the neutral and attaches to the white wires in the box. The black is the hot lead for the fan and the blue is the hot lead for the light. These two can be combined if you have only one wall switch. Where they attach in the box will be determined by which hot lead is switched. I can probably guess how the box and switch are wired but I may be wrong and that would be dangerous. Call an electrician so you don't burn your house down.
- Q: I know what spark plugs are and where they are... but not sure what is meant by wires...For example checking/replacing spark plugs and wires to see if a problem is fixed..Are wires what hookup to the spark plugs from the (distributor?)
- they are not called wires ,spark plug leads or ht leads , ht stand for high tension leads wich are mostly silcon based corbon fiber
- Q: my dogs have chewed my central air contactor wire.my ac will not cut on. does anyone knows how to replace them and where to buy replacement wires locally( i live in Dallas TX.) i would like to do it myself instead of spending a lot of money.
- This should be copper wire and a splice could be made with little risk since the thermostat is a low voltage circuit in most cases. Try the local HVAC contractor for some of the type you need. There are different types ( number of conductors) for different controllers so they need to match. If you just have the HVAC contractor do a fall service on the system they can make the needed repairs and prepare the whole system for the winter. It was probably used a lot this last summer so a service is about due.
- Q: when checking white wire at the box it is cold when checking at the light switch it has power i am confused
- The white is the neutral and has no power in it from the breaker box. When you check it at the light or switch you are getting power back through the light bulb.
- Q: Well i bought new speakers for my 92 integra and when i installed them i also wanted to get new speaker wire.how would i go about installing all new wires?would you recommend have circuit city do it or is it not as hard as it looks?
- it breaks off because its very thin wire. You need to run new wire. The smallest I would use is 16 gauge wire....14 gauge for the best sound quality. All you need to do is run from your head unit or amp to each speaker. If you have 4 speakers then run 4 wires.EXAMPLE: FRONT CHANNEL LEFT (1) FRONT CHANNEL RIGHT(2) REAR CHANNEL LEFT (3) REAR CHANNEL RIGHT(4) Thats it....Just do your best to conceal the wire under carpet, or along wire mold which is under plasic foot/door strip, on the floor of the vehicle.
- Q: Hello, I have a 4 year old Trane XR12 unit. Recently the compressor fan is noisy, and now stops when when under power after 5-10 min. The main fuses and breakers are fine, the fan spins freely when turned, the contactor pulls in fine, the dual capacitor checks out. But, the wiring of the capacitor does not match wire diagrams. Could this have caused the fan motor to prematurely fail?..............................Terminal: C red wire, FAN brown wire, HERM has both orange and purple. Schematic shows the purple wire should be with red wire on common C. The purple also leads to fan.
- Hi, I looked at the schematic on-line. If you still have the original fan motor in the unit then you are correct. The center terminal on the capacitor should have the red wire from the T1 terminal of the contactor, the red wire from the compressor, and the purple wire from the fan. The FAN terminal should have the brown wire from the fan. The HERM terminal should have the orange wire from the compressor. The black wire from the fan and the black/blue wire from the compressor should lead back to the T2 terminal of the contactor. Again, that is if the motor is the original motor. If it was replaced at some point in time, the wiring colors can change from manufacturer to manufacturer, in which case it's possible that the new motor is wired correctly. There should be a diagram on the motor to show you the correct wiring configuration.
- Q: I removed a dishwasher and now the wires are exposed. I turned off the circuit to that outlet. I am planning on waiting a while to replace the dishwasher. I want to turn the circuit back on so I can use the other outlets, but don't want to leave the wires exposed. Any ideas?
- Are they in an electrical box,or just hanging there? Either way, you need to twist them (individually) screw the proper sized wire nut on to them, then wrap some electrical tape around them. If they have a box, you can just put a cover on it. If they are just dangling out of the wall,( very unusual, but you never know) Just put a plain cover over them, after wrapping them. After they have been wrapped separately, it will be safe to turn the breaker back on. Use a electrical tester before touching any electrical wiring, even after you think you have turned the breaker off. I almost killed myself thinking the breaker I shut off lead to the particular wire I was working on. Come to find out, a switch to a light, and an outlet not more then a foot away from that ,were pigtailed on to separate circuits. Don't ever guess, or assume nothing when working around electricity. Byee
- Q: I have 1971 slide in truck camper with 5 way pin wiring wires are red, white ,yellow, black, green.need to know what wire's do what...thanks

- Q: i want electrical symbol used in house wiring
- If an you are living in the UK try BS 7671- Formerly the Wiring Regulations. More symbols than you can shake a stick at. Try OKorder for an old copy, the symbols rarely change.
