- Q: This may seem like a stupid question as I am just learning to skateboard.I bought a brand new complete board with abec 5 bearings and they seem quite stiff. Am I suppose to oil them before I ride or do they eventually loosen up as I ride? Also I took the riser pads off because I heard it makes it easier to learn to ollie, will this help me? I have 51mm wheels so I dont think they will rub against the board.Thanks for your help.

- Q: Ok so my bearing shields recently got bent inwards and i researched it up online and it says that dirt and other stuff can get into the bearings easier and since im sort of a lazy guy i dont want to do the whole cleaning process so can skateshops clean bearings for you like with a dissolvent or something if you paid them a few bucks and also do you think that skateshops can also flatten out your bearing shields as well thanks if you answer
- Yes, they can/ should be able to do that there. Since you said in your other question that you have ceramic bearings, the cost of this cleaning/repair would be alot cheaper than new bearings. I would take it in and see how much they charge, what they suggest, and how confident they are that they can fix it. If they charge alot then just ride them till you notice a decrease in performance. Then take them in and get them cleaned. If they don't charge much and sound like they can easily straighten out the cover, then ya, go for it.
- Q: I took my car to the dealer within two months of purchasing it (after I had taken it another repair shop--being told that the bearings needed to be replaced). The dealer told me that it was most likely my bearings but that for the time being they were only going to rotate my tires. - It does not seem as though no one can know for sure that the bearings are out. They are easy to pack and replace. If the bearings are no good a lot of things could happen. You could ruin tires you cou ruin the race or the spindle. The bearings are not that expensive and you can buy the grease that would last for ever.
- Q: I have seen two different types of spacers and can;t seem to find much on the net about the differences between them. One type just goes in between the two bearings and the other type has a smaller end that goes into each bearing. My question is simply whats the difference between the two and whats better? (Inline skate/hockey/general question)
- The difference is the axle diameter that they are for. If you measure the bearing, the opening is 8mm (5/16) Better skates come with 8mm axles and cheaper ones with 6mm axles (1/4) Since 8mm axles fit the inside of the bearings the spacers just take up the space on the axle between them. The spacers for 6mm axles have to have the small ends extending into the bearings to make up for the gap between the axle and the bearing.
- Q: Its a yamaha r6 2002 model and im trying to remove the back wheel bearings.I have pulled the oil seal off and the circlip but cant get any further.The bearings arnt moving when i tried to tap them out.Do i need to take the wheel to a dealer to press the bearings out with a special tool made for the job or is there a way to remove them on my own and how do you put the new ones back in? - If you carefully draw it out you will find that the angle YXZ is the difference in the bearings of 65 and 30. YXZ = 65 - 30 = 35 degrees as XYZ is a right angle or 90 degrees and we know the sum of interior angles on a triangle = 180 degrees, then XZY must = 180 - 90 - 35 = 55 degrees the length YZ can be found from the tangent function tan(XYZ) = opp/adj tan 35 = YZ/15 YZ = 15tan35 = 10.5 km
- Q: I bought the trailer today. It's in fairly good shape but its been sitting in a field for about a year. I'm going to get new tires, but before I take the trailer any distance at all, I need to repack the ball bearings on the axle. I could probably figure all this out by myself, but if anyone has any suggesions or can offer any help, I would certainly appreciate it.

- it's pretty personal. some people just get the cheapest bearings they can find, and just replaces them once, twice, maybe more, a year. but i tend to agree with the user above me. if you buy bones swiss (i think they're about 40$) they're not only very fast, but they should last you at least a year. and if you take a step up from the bones swiss, then they are lubricated, and lubricated bearings (although initially faster) tend to pick up junk off the road and will slow down over time more than bones swiss will.
- Q: I have a 1996 saturn sc1 and the rod bearings are gone in the motor. I'm i better off taking the chance and replacing them or buying another motor, because i was told that if the rod bearing are gone, 9 chances out of 10 the cylinder walls are gone as well. Is this a true fact?
- Is the engine knocking? bad rod bearings will knock. and no that doesn't mean your cylinder walls are shot. if you plan on keeping the car you need to replace the main bearing when you replace the rods. if the car is low mileage don't worry about the cylinders unless you pull the pistons. Personally if I'm gonna go to the trouble of putting in rod and main bearings, I'm gonna buy an overhual kit, and pull the head so I can hone the cylinders and put new rings and an oil pump in at the same time.
