- Q:All bearings are designed with tolerances to allow the moving parts to move, but how are wear limits determined? In other words, after time, the components will start to wear out and the bearing will become looser. Looking at some aircraft maintencance manuals, they provide wear limits in the radial and axial directions. But how are these wear limitis determined? Is there a particular calculation that is done or is an arbitruary number chosen?
- General ideas only. In the case of journal bearings with forced lubrication (oil pressure), increasing clearance results in oil pressure drop. Ideally, journal bearings hold an oil film which supports the rotating shaft and minimizes metal/metal contact. Automobile engines run for hundreds of thousands of miles using this strategy. Radial ball bearings will tolerate excess clearance (depending on the load) but the shafts they support often will not. In cases where oil seals are used, excess shaft play damages seals and permits leaking. In the case of motor or pump shafts, bearing slack permits rotor/stator contact or impeller/involute contact. Rotating masses are never perfectly balanced or axially aligned. Bearing slack multiplies unbalanced force and consequent load.

- i had some panthers for my first set of bearings, and they were alright. u get what u pay for i guess. but my friend got a set of the bones reds (only like 17 bucks) and they WAY outlasted my panthers, and they were way quicker. but recently someone asked me what kind of bearings i ahd and i didnt even remember. i took a look and realized im still riding my lucky abec 7's from 3 years ago! i hadnt thought about em in so long cause ive enver had a break, and they all still run so fast and smooth. id definately reccomend my lucky 7's. if not, then pick up a set of bones super swiss 6. those things are amazing. or, if your in it for something cheap, look for some called filters ive only seen em at one shop, but everyone ive talked to thats had a set said they were the best.

- If your bearings are dented, there is nothing that can be done about it. Either suffer with the wiggling until the bearings fail, or replace them.

- Ceramic bearings will not hold up to jumps. They are primarily intended for downhill longboarding and street luge. They would work as a speed skate bearing as well. Go for a Swiss bearing like Pig Swiss or Black Panther Swiss. .

- hi, the clicking side to side is wheel bearings, not that hard to fix , the squealing is probably your brakes need replacing,( squealing caused by metal tab contacting disc to tell u brakes need replacing) if the wheel clicks when u move the tire side 2 side when car is stationary it is bearings. To do bearings, take off hubcap,and wheel, and disc caliper, undo cotter pin and big nut, take disc off and bearings on inside and out, pack new ones with grease and replace, tighten nuttill nut is TIGHT then back off 1/3 turn, replace cotter in nearest slot and disc caliper and your done, dont for get to do disc pads when caliper is off, if stuck go to library and get CHALMERS fix-it book for make and model...

- You may need to be more specific with the question but i assume that you are talking about the bottom bracket bearings. In BMX there are various BB (bottom bracket) sizes there are, Euro BB, Spanish BB, American BB and Mid BB. The most commonly used BB is the Mid which most BMX frames use now days, the American BB is quite old and dated the other BB that you may see is the Spanish BB which is used by various companies one being Fly Bikes (being a spanish company). You may find that your Hoffman frame has a Mid BB and the Eastern frame you own has a Spanish BB the most common difference is the Mid is larger than the Spanish, unless you provide some more information i suggest that you go to your local bike shop and ask for their opinion or help. - Q:should i put a little grease inside the wheel so the bearings slide in easier? they really dont want to go in strait. should i lay the bearing in the hole and put the nut on and tighten the bearing into the wheel? Help....
- Do not put grease, grease will wreak your bearings. The best thing to do is buy a skate tool that can help you insert them. If you dont want to do that simply put the bearing on the wheel (where it needs to go) and put the wheel on the truck with the bearing still on the wheel facing the truck. Then just simply push down on the wheel and the bearing will pop into place.
