Q:Back in the day(about 10 years ago) I had ceramic wheel, crank, water pump, countershaft, mainshaft and steering stem bearings. I was trying to find ceramic bearings for my son's KTM 50 and can't find anyone that sells them. I am trying to cut down on weight on his little bike. I am also trying to find a titanium shock spring for that little bike.Any help would be much appreciated. I have been trying Google for the past couple of days. This stuff is for the 50cc mod class not the stock class...
Don't know how much help this would be to you as I have a crf250r and have ceramic bearings in it but being in Australia mine came from a company called Black Mamba Racing. They are worth the cost and it is a mod that most will not admit to but all the pros run them in their bikes. Finding them for a ktm 50 could be an issue though as most would not think to put them in therefore there may not be much of a market for it. So perhaps look for a company like Black Mamba that produce racing components in your country.
Q:Okay so I wanna clean out my bearings, but I dont have any rubbing alcohol, but I do have hydrogen peroxide...I was wondering if it works and how to use it. Plz tell me asap!!! also, does sewing machine lube work to lubricate the bearings?
first of all NEVER use things like hyd. peroxide or sewing machine lube or WD-40. it clots up, collects more dirt and actually can cause more friction between the ball bearings and the shell. and absoloutly never use water, unless you want rusted shackles. only use actual skateboard lubricants, top kind out there right now is Speadcream by Bones.
Q:How long do repacked rear wheel bearings last in a FWD Toyota Rav4?
Wheel bearings are designed to last around 100,000 miles give or take. It is not uncommon to have them last as long as the car. Normally, if your mechanic is good and thorough, they will be inspected every time you get a brake job (approximately every 35-50,000 miles) and re-packed with grease if necessary at little or no cost.
Q:what will happen?....will they go faster?
You can soak anything in anything. The question is whether you should or not. In the case of steel bearings, they don't soak. They sit in whatever you put them in and are coated by it. My guess is that no food oil is going to be good for bearings used in machinery. Unless you intend to 'cook' them...and you will.
Q:http://www.amazon .uk/Bones-Reds-Skateboard-Bearings-Red/dp/B000FDRQ1S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1377987075sr=8-1keywords=bones+redsAnd tell me if the price is good for their quality.
These bearings are amazing for skateboarding. I bought a pack and I love them. They are well built and durable bearings for a fantastic price. I would buy them for sure.
Q:We just got a 98 cavalier and it makes a sound when we make a right turn. It also make the sound when we drive straight but you can barely here it. We were told by a family member that the bearings probably need greased. How do you do that? DOes it sound like the bearings to you? Thanks
fantastically much anorexic. whilst i replaced into 5'0 and ninety 8 pounds and interior the wellbeing midsection for something else, they asked mom if I ate. in any respect. She suggested sure, like a horse, yet I exercised continuously.
Q:Well, I was wondering: do all skateboard bearings have 2 sides? I looked at abec 7 or 8 bearings and they do not seem to have 2 sides? How do I know which side should i grease? Also, does abec bearings have a metal/rubber covering on one side? Thanks, if you can answer all these questions, i will give you best answer. Don't say, Get bone swiss bearings! They're better! I know they are, but I'm asking about abec 7 bearings. Thanks.
most of them have two sides. I believe that abec 7 bearings have two sides but i am not sure. google abec 7 bearings and that should give you the answer
Q:So lets say I fill the cup all the way around with bearings, then how many do I remove before putting the cone on?
Never use old bearings with new ones. The old ones are worn and no longer the same size as the new ones. If properly installed, bearing retainers should never be damaged in a bottom bracket. I have a Campagnolo bottom bracket on one of my bikes. The bearing retainers in that bottom bracket are the ones that came with it when I bought it in 1973. I have changed the ball bearings several times but I kept the bearing retainers. If your bearing retainers are being damaged it is because of improper installation or other damage. Since you also had trouble with damaged bearing retainers in your headset, I vote for improper installation
Q:Is it possible to replace some from the oil pan? Please dont say i need a new engine etc. im only concerned about the bearings.
Easily changed from the bottom, but if they are bad-worn, chances are that the crankshaft is too.
Q:Also on bicycle is it possible to adjust the cone too tight to a extent that it costs me wattage? On bicycle is there any kind of mechanism that prevents the cone from getting too close to the bearings, so I can just tighten the cone as much as I want without worrying about restricting the bearing movements? On bicycle will the cone loosen up over time and need re-tightening?On bicycle will I be paranoid about either the cone being too close to the bearings causing drag or too far causing plays? Finally are cup and cone hubs good for cycle commute or will you recommend cartridge which is maintenance free?
Not so long ago, racers- particularly velodrome racers- built their hubs using very light machine oil instead of grease and ran the bearings slightly loose. This was called trackmens slack inasmush as using the hubs like this offered almost no resistance. Unfortunately, one race like this and the hubs required rebuilding including replacement of balls, cups, and cones. Whenever I can, I still spec cup and cone hubs on bikes I design and build most of my own bikes with cup and cone hubs. EDIT: I wanted to add that ball, radial, and needle bearings which are used for just about everything now in some fashion were first developed for the bicycle. Before the bicycle, bearings were made of wood, leather, and bronze. The bronze ones were called babbett bearings.. similar to sleeve bearings today... but not exactly.
