- Q: I have 2004 Chevy Trailblazer V8 4x4 that the water pump went out on. Does anyone know how long it takes to change it and where it is located? The dealer wants $750.00 to fix it. I really don't want to get riped off.
- Depends on the engine. For the 4.2L (6 cylinder), the water pump (part # 24576952) costs $107.22. Labor time is 3.1 hours. There is also about 2 gallons of Dexcool coolant, about $30. For the 5.3L (V8), the water pump (part # 89017439) costs $231.42. Labor time is 3.6 hours. Also, 2 gallons Dexcool, $30. For the 4.2L, $750 is definately too much. For the V8, unless the labor rate at that dealer is about $135 per hour, $750 is still too high. I worked for a Chevy dealer for 3 1/2 years, and now own an independant shop. I recommend you find a good honest independant, and stick with them. I would charge just over $300 for the 4.2, about $500 for the V8. Now that you know the price of the parts and the labor time, you can make some calls and get a good estimate. Your first question should be what their labor rate is. Then tell them what you need done. Good luck.
- Q: how do I know my water pump failed. 98 mustang V6 started to leak coolant from the front lower part of the the engine. How do I know for sure my pump is bad? Did refill and kept on leaking as I manage to get home. Little help please!
- Locate the leak. If it is directly below the pump, you are right. There are many other points on the far that will leak coolant also.
- Q: I recently bought a 1992 Honda Accord. It has high mileage but the records kept on it were impecable up to about the last 3 years. I have read that you need to replace the timing belt/water pump every 80k miles. However; I do not know when it was changed last. The Only record in the book on the subject was back at 90k miles. That was the first time they had the timing belt changed. So How do I know its time to change it again? The car now has 199k miles. I do not want to do unnecessary work before time, however; I also know that the affects it will have on the engine is great if its not done within the right TIME! Is there anyway to know it needs to be done? What kind of signs will the car give? And how much is it going to cost me when it has to be done? Thanks!
- A water pump is mostly pretty obvious when it is going/gone it chirps it squeaks and your temperature will usually be higher than it usually was [not always]. As for a timing belt... they are relatively inexpensive, the labor isnt that bad since the car is VERY easy to work on, and it is difficult to tell when one is needed since the most it will make is a whining noise when its getting weaker, only sometimes though. This is hard to hear too. Best advice I have is to just get a couple appraisals/estimates, or have a friend who is mechanically savvy take a look to see if he/she can tell if the belt is worn to the point where it needs replacing. I had a timing belt done for $120 parts and labor on a 91 accord (same car)
- Q: I have a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis vehicle. How do you know when the water pump is going. Is their any particular noise I should be hearing.
- There is no noise associated with a water pump going out that I am aware of other than the engine exploding due to excessive heat. The dash guages; especially the engine temp guage, will give you a clue as to a cooling problem, whcih is what the water pump is for. The water pump prevents the engine block from overheating. When the pump fails, the engine overheats and will either shut down, or the engine will burn out. The best way to tell is to monitor the temp guage. If the engine is running hot, it either the water pump, lack of water in the cooling system, or Thermostat failure. Best to have a mechanic check it out. Cheers!
- Q: Domestic pump automatic shut off the water, but also turn around, stop what happened?
- Absolutely at the pressure switch, just under pressure. The shell open pressure switch, will see there is a spring, the screw is to adjust the pressure of the ~ ~ ~ try, and I've done a lot.
- Q: I have a deep tropical fish tank, my three in one pump is 15 watts, if I put it in the middle of the active oxygen bubbling tank can function, everything is normal, but not very good filtering, can not clean up the garbage at the bottom of the tank. So they put the pump a little deeper, but at this time the pump does not bubble, the oxygen supply in the pipe there is water, atmospheric pressure can not enter, but still can pump water filter, so that the pump itself harmful? Will the pump burn out? This question is very important to me. Please help my brothers and sisters downstairs. I will thank you for my dear tropical fish
- Three in one pump with a hose connected to the oxygen pump as the pipe above the water so that the air will enter the pump, you can spit bubblesYou put it too deep and put the hose into the water too. Without air, you can't spit bubblesIf the pipe is not long enough, you can find a hose for the oxygen pump instead of a long tube, with the hose out of the water and fixed
- Q: could it be the water pump??
- Overheating can be caused by many things such as : the fan, the fan motor ,the water pump, or a fuse. Overheating is a trail an error task. since you already changed the thermosatate the next thing you need to do is check the fan motor.
- Q: my heater in my 94 ford ranger went out about a month ago today i flushed the heater core and it worked for a while and started going out again after i was driving for 15 to 20 mins. the hose going into the heater core was warm but coming out wasnt. could it have gotten clogged again or could it be something else.
- You need to find the Heater Core water valve.. That's the part that works as the TEMP. Control.. Water Pumps don't die slowly..and leak tremendously.. === Sometimes the Water Control valve(seizes).. So..you need somebody to throw the TEMP Lever back and forth..until you can find the valve location.. You may see the cable moving--put not acting upon the valve.. Usually the valve is shot--spraying a lubricant at it won't do anything.. It needs to be removed--too be worked upon.. Also check all the heater hoses for wear--damage--you may need to rebuild that part of the system.
- Q: the car is a 1973 Pontiac Lemans, 350 V8. Water pump needs to be replaced. It's obviously a mechanical pump that's in there now. I was thinking of getting something with more capacity (to start off) as I feel the car could do with a better cooling system (and I have to get a water pump anyways). I was thinking of getting an electrical pump as that would also free up a bit of power from the engine. From what I gather, by doing this it seems I need to switch to an electrical fan also. Is that the case? Any advice/opinions on electrical systems and set ups? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance to anyone who answers. Much appreciated.
- Nothing okorder and check out what will work best for you. I hope this helps and I love early '70's Lemans', Tempest's and GTO's so cool car bro.
- Q: I have septic tanks. My toilet flushing water is filthy and the water pump runs for a long time and sounds strange. I have turned the pump off for now but know this is not an answer but i was worried it would burn out or something. Do i need a part for the pressure pump? Please help any plumbers out there.
- Most toilets do not have pumps, Yours probably has a fluid master acting like a float , so water can only get so high in the tank, and a flapper - a rubber piece with a chain connecting to a handle rod. Remove the tank lid, see if the flapper goes up and down with the handle( the piece you push), this rubber piece should cover the hole completely to stop the water from going down any more. If it does not go down all the way, then it is the problem. Hope this helps.
