- Q: I've been working on a couple projects in one room in my house. The room really needs to be vacuumed but there is aquarium gravel scattered around as well as a bunch of tiny screws. I have a shark vacuum. There's no threat of puncturing a bag because this vacuum doesn't use a bag - it uses a canister. I could easily empty the canister and then go over the floor with the hose. I'm wondering if it's an ok idea though because I don't want to damage anything in the vacuum. Occasionally, my battery powered aquarium vacuum will suck up a couple pieces of gravel, they'll get stuck, stop the vacuum, and I have to get them out for the vacuum to work again. I don't know how house vacuums work, but I don't want that to happen. If there aren't any mechanical components to be damaged, then I guess the only other worry would be the hose, but the hose on this vacuum feels pretty sturdy, and I would just be vacuuming tiny gravel and tiny, corroded screws - nothing sharp like tacks or nails. What do you guys think?

- Q: You can't vacuum if there's no power, so why would you need the light? You can't get into the corners of the carpet anyhow, so why taunt you by showing you the extra dust?
- It's not about being able to see, it's about being able to see better. You may be able to see the dust better with more light. However, if you're at all familiar with the blender-button war of the 1950s, there is another possibility. Blenders got ridiculous in the 50's, advertising 40 different speeds. Honestly, would you use 40 speeds in a blender?. Six are plenty. However, if you're deciding between a blender with 25 speeds and 40 speeds, which are you more likely to buy? I think that the light in the front of the vacuum is a necessity because we're more likely to buy one with a light than without.

- I use the Swifer WetJet - it is safe for the floor and cleans beautifully!!! It took a bit to dry, but it dries without smearing or streaks. Everything else I've tried leaves streak marks. Also, you can get a $5 off coupon from swifer on their web site. ...otherwise you can follow the advise of the guy who installed my floors...he said just a small amount of dish soap and water, but I found that to leave streaks.

- Uh... Um... Electricity? I don't know what exactly you're trying to find out. Is it how they create suction exactly? Cause that I know. U see, the propeller isn't like a normal airplane propeller. It's a bit different. It's actually a disc, which has some blades on it, mounted radially, but slightly bent to the exterior of the disc. When it turns, it blows air away on the outside of the disc, and creates a low pressure point in the inside, which creates the suction (air flows from higher pressured areas to the lower pressured ones - think about winds the weather) The propeller is actually part of an entire system, which is connected to the motor and is designed to create as much suction as possible by its shape.

- My daughter has long hair and has to take the roller out and cut the hair off of it to keep it working. Pretty easy, just turn upside down and look at the little screws on the sides and remove the plate and bar and clean. Of course it is not plugged in -- if it is a Hoover I believe they conspire to break belts. Had more trouble with them and belts than any others. funny but they are always for sale at the groc. store.
