Q:I just purchased a Dyson DC 24 vacuum cleaner. The power cord is ridiculously short (claimed to be 20'...don't think so!) Some rooms can't be completely vacuumed with just one plug in to a receptacle. I'm thinking of replacing the existing cord with a longer one (30'). Is this something I can get at the local hardware store, Home Depot, etc? What gauge cord is required?: Extending the cord is flirting with a UL issue, but that being said, you might have a problem getting a cord the same style as the existing cord, but rubber cords (SOOW, SJOOW, SO, or SJ) are available in the bulk wire section, I would stay away from plastic types (STO, SJTO,SVT, SJT). And use one size larger that the existing cord, (smaller number = larger wire), because longer wire will suffer more voltage drop. Edit: Another thought occurred to me, you could shorten your cord, to like 18 and use a make an extension cord the length you need, and zip tie the end of the extension cord to the vacuum.

Q:I heard it spins around in there at 9 times the speed of sound, that being true how is it possible to see a recently sucked up ant able to crawl around pretty happily in the bit where you can see all the dust? My motor is stuck and won't spin and I can't find any obstruction preventing it from spinning.Any thoughts?And secondly, can you clarify if the motor should spin freely when the vacuum is turned off because I could have sworn that in the past if anything got wrapped around the roller (like string) I could easily unwind it.: yes it should spin by hand it sounds like a bearing has seized these may be part of the motor itself and non replaceable good sign of this is any grinding noise when trying to turn the motor, or the motor brushes have worn down or cracked and this can jam the motor

Anyone have any ideas of a good, upright, bag vacuum clean that has a roller that's easy to remove so I can clean it after every use?: I love this vacuum. The Sebo is almost $600 but I only paid $300 for the Flexamatic (and it's even more heavy duty..go figure). I've owned her for almost 6 years, run her nearly every day and have never had a problem. I have had to replace the brush once, but it pops out very easily for cleaning and changing. All you have to do is push a button, twist the edge off and it slides right out. And every time I change the filters and bag, it's like having a brand new machine. My vacuum has done all the things that I saw claimed by Dyson. It never loses suction and it can maneuver anywhere.

Q:My daughter is about 10 days old. Between the friends/family stopping by to see her and the dog I am anxious to resume vacuuming the house. Does anyone have a strategy or time they would suggest to do that?: My baby loves the sound of a vacuum! It would soothe him.
