FAQ
Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?
The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.
Which attachments should I look out for?
Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.
I have a large house? What should I look out for?
Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.
- Q: What is the working principle of a vacuum cleaner?
- Inside the machine, there is an electric fan, which operates at high speed and makes the vacuum inside the vacuum cleaner
- Q: I mean.. aren't they just vacuum cleaners for decaying dead things?
- It's all organic matter. Just like we would never eat a live cow, but lots of people eat them dead.
- Q: So we see here and there that bagless vacuum cleaners are better for environment but what are the reasons behind it like in more clear details other than the basics (i.e. less waste, manufacturing, paper use).....
- Because it doesn't create trash, and trash is bad for the universe.
- Q: I was conversing with a person in the vacuum industry and was informed that they were a bucket of s.h.i.t so don't be fooled by the marketing.
- While I've only heard good things from people who have bought DYSONS- I believe that proper maintance is really key... I have an older vacuum a HOOVER-SAVVY which I LOVE.. I've had it for just over 5 yrs. and it works very well. In fact when it came out it was rated as good as, or better than a DYSON and it cost 1/2 as much... I also since the vacuum was a gift I purchased the extended warranty which has been a great purchase and still was cheaper than a DYSON.. The warranty covered pretty much everything except filters.... So, I would take my vacuum in- 2x a year for it's annual clean check ( I would call under warranty and tell them it wasn't working properly) and basically come home with a new vacuum... I believe that anything you buy and use regularly and I vacuum almost everyday needs upkeep and maintanace... So, to anyone that buys a DYSON and finds it to be sub-par I would send it back under warranty and keep sending it back until the problem is fixed or they send you a new one... I have a set of CALPHALON non-stick commercial grade pans... I got them for a wedding present ($200.00)... They have a 10 yr. warranty. I send them back every couple of years and get a BRAND-'NEW set. No questions asked... After the 10 yrs. are up I'll probably just buy some other pans... I don't like them... However, if I can get brand new pans every yr. then why not? Read and use the warranty... good luck
- Q: Do roomba vacuum cleaners really work well? What are their advantages and shortages?Do you have one?
- yes im interested in a roomba
- Q: I know there is the Bissell Flip it, Dirt Devil Vac n Mop and Hoover Floor Mate, but is there a site where I can compare all 3 and see which one is the best?
- I tried the Floor Mate, garbage...it didn't do a good job of cleaning (terrible suction) and it leaked water. I bought a scooba...very happy with it. Does a great job on the floors and you can use vinegar and water instead of the clorox cleaner on your wood floors. The only drawback is you have to empty and then refill after 45 mins. Other than that its the greatest invention for a busy Mom like me!
- Q: We have 2 vacuum cleaners. Both are bagless, only 7 months old and both have weird smell .whenever they are used, smell spreads throughout the house. They have hepa filters, even changed them but still no change. After investigating more, found that the smell is coming from the cyclonic assembly of the vacuum. The assembly is filled with fine dirt, as it cant be cleaned or washed out, there is nothing we can do. Is there a way to get rid of it without opening and cleaning the cyclonic assembly or bagged vacuum is the only way to go. Plz any suggestions? . This smell even bothers in breathing and flares up my asthma also.
- I have yet to see a vacuum cleaner that don't add a smell to the air. Try vacuuming up some backing soda this helps.
- Q: How would you rate the Rainbow vacuum cleaner? Please only responed if you have used it or own one. Thank you.
- Works great - maybe the best. BUT...it is a big hassle! I love the ease and thoroughness of a Dyson ball! Easy to empty, you don't pull it around and it is always ready in a moment's notice! The Dyson does a wonderful job with greater ease. The cost is only a fraction of the Rainbow also. barb
- Q: i am wanting a cleaner that does it all. i remember a rainbow that i used of someone that was a vac that extracted water while vacuuming that i would like to have. however, i don't know what kind that it was?? does all rainbow vacs do that?? i was thinking about purchasing the h2o vac, then read alot of bad things about them. do you have one, what is your experience? it does'nt have to be a rainbow, but i want something that i can vac and run water at the same time. would like for it to cost less than a rainbow. does the green machine do that?also, if you have a hoover z-fold, how good/bad is it?
- I myself would prefer my rainbow over any other carpet machine. I cleaned houses for a living for 4 years and it still runs great. I may of cost a pretty penny but it was worth every cent. I also got the step attachment and the carpet cleaner with mine for doing 4 demo.'s. they were free. you can set up a contract with finance america and pay only $50.00 a month or so. maybe $75.00 and pay for it that way. it really is worth it to me. and it doesnt use suck up water it runs water like a dirt bag, it makes the dirt go to the bottom of the bowl. dirt is heavier then water, and the part inside acts like a churn, it forces the dirt to the bottom. you can also use smelly oils in the water to make your home smell good as you vacuume. I will never buy any other type of model of vacuumes after having this rainbow.
- Q: I've seen a lot of advertisements for Sears Cannister Vacuums on sale or on closeout recently. Are these vacuums any good, on an absolute level, and also for the money they cost?
- My mother in law had a Sears cannister and after she bought it did nothing but complain about dragging it around behind her or tripping over it. I inherited it after she passed away and hated it for the same reasons; Give me a good old fashioned upright any day. We had a display home cleaning service and used nothing but Eureka and Hoover uprights. Loved both brands. A friend had a Kirby and it was so hard to change the belt on it she had to wait until her son could come to do it for her which was quite often..Another friend has a Oreck and loves it.
