FAQ

Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?

The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.

Which vacuum cleaner attachments should I look out for?

Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.

I have a large house and what vacuum cleaner should I look out for?

Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.

Q: I have tried duct tape, bounce sheets, rubber gloves, lint rollers and vacuum cleaners. The only thing that has worked is picking out the hairs one by one. We recently moved and the owners gave us a game chair and its like the pet hair is embedded into the cover. (Its just the cover.) I'm afraid to wash it in fear of the hair transferring to the washer and dryer (prior experience) and the clips on the cover may tear it up.
I found good links, sites and advice on all pets.We have a pet rat and they had alot of good sites
Q: Why are dogs afraid of vacuum cleaners?
Vacuums are loud.
Q: preferably dyson brand but it doesnt really matter
Facepalm -_-
Q: Nojo king sells vacuum cleaners. Each week he earns $200 plus 8% of his sales. How much did he earn last week if his sales totaled $3200?
200 +8X = 3200 8X = 3200 - 200 8X = 3000 X = 3000/8 X = $375
Q: I saw a wide range of prices for vacuum cleaners...I just need a decent one, how much should that cost?
I happen to have a consumer reports online subscription, so i looked it up for you in the members only area. They rate the upright vaccums in the same category. There are a bunch of expensive models but the top rated ones under $200 are: In order from top to bottom in the rating. -Eureka Boss Smart Vac 4870 ($150) *CR Best Buy -Hoover Tempo Widepath U5140-900 ($70) -Eureka Boss 4D 5893 ($140) -Hoover Mach5 U5194-900 ($200) -Hoover EmPower U5262-910 -Bissell Momentum 82G71 -Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Turbo 3760-1 ($170) So if you can find a couple of these and compare them, you will be the smart shopper. By the way. The number one and number two picks by consumer reports were two different models of the Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive (one is bagless, the other one has a bag) The Eureka above is listed at third (has a bag). Dyson came in 9th.
Q: 1. Vacuum Cleaners2. Straws3. American Idol4. or ????
NUMBER 3! I can't believe they got rid of Gina! Melinda is my favorite, but Gina is very good and should have stayed. I think this will be my last year watching. That show is just a bunch of baloney!
Q: My bagless vacuum is about 1 year old. We change our HEPA filter and the round filter under the dirt trap, clean the washable sponge as instructed. Recently, all of a sudden the machine smells really bad like a dead body is inside the machine. Anyone with a solution?
Most vacuum cleaners have a rotating brush that is powered by a rubber ring connecting it to the motor. If the rotating brush gets jammed, the ring will continue to turn, rubbing against the brush. This creates a lot of friction, heating up the rubber ring. When rubber burns, it smells really bad. If your rotating brush is not rotating, or rotating too slowly, then the rubber ring is burning. I hope this helps.
Q: This includes toasters, cyborgs, vacuum cleaners and magnets.
Well, some theories suggest that when a system acquires a certain level of intelligence (let's say, like the human brain), it might become conscious. When humans devise a way to create a robot that is a little 'smarter' then humans itself, only the robot will be able to improve itself (as it is the smartest thing on the planet). This process will continue until humans don't know who the system works anymore. Think of us being descendant from some ape-like ancestor. You may see it as a creature being totally different as yourself. What will a robot think after years of improving itself, making it maybe a 100 times more intelligent than humans... will it see us as equal? Will it feel any link to us at all? It's like comparing human intelligence with that of an ant.
Q: I have a one-year old and lots of crumbs on my floor that our vacuum won't pick up. We currently have a bag less Bissell and I hate it. We've replaced all the filters and cleaned it but it still hardly picks up a thing. It leaves little hair balls on our carpet and kicks dust back in the air. I have to open the windows every time I vacuum so we can breathe! We're looking to get a new vacuum and I am interested in any brand and reviews you can recommend. My parents have had an Electrolux for 10+ years and it works great. However, the price tag ($500) is a little much for me. I'd also rather not go bag less again. Any suggestions?
Any vacuum with good power will work. The recommended power is at least 12 amps. However, I have found that if a vacuum looses suction it doesn't matter how many amps it has. After many years of buying vacuums once a year, I finally gave up and bought a Dyson. They are wonderful but are a bagless vacuum and can be pretty pricey. About the same as the Electrolux. I understand the cost issue believe me, that's why I always bought the cheaper vacuums, it was all I could afford at the time. But like I said, I usually had to replace them once a year. Try to get the best vacuum you can afford right now. Look for 12 amps or higher. Hoover makes some good models. But seriously think about saving up for either a Dyson or Electrolux down the road. The investment will save you a lot of time and headaches and you will be glad you did.
Q: It's really a simple engineering principal, four fixed wheels like to go in straight lines. Where as a ball can move it in any direction. So in clear choice, easy turns with minimal efforts, or do it the old fashioned way. It's quite amusing that a vacuum cleaner and its complexities completely destroy Evolution. And yet it's treated as fact, sigh.
Notwithstanding your obvious Poe, and the fact that vacuums are designed, not biologically evolved... You can see the evolution of engineering in vacuums in the Dyson Ball.
