Q: Usually I just have to sweep kitty litter off the bathroom floor, but now I have some on my carpet. Is it ok to use a vacuum?: it will eventually break your vacuum. i've had to replace my vacuum every 1 -1/2 to 2 years since i've had cats. 16 years now.

Q: I've been working on a couple projects in one room in my house. The room really needs to be vacuumed but there is aquarium gravel scattered around as well as a bunch of tiny screws. I have a shark vacuum. There's no threat of puncturing a bag because this vacuum doesn't use a bag - it uses a canister. I could easily empty the canister and then go over the floor with the hose. I'm wondering if it's an ok idea though because I don't want to damage anything in the vacuum. Occasionally, my battery powered aquarium vacuum will suck up a couple pieces of gravel, they'll get stuck, stop the vacuum, and I have to get them out for the vacuum to work again. I don't know how house vacuums work, but I don't want that to happen. If there aren't any mechanical components to be damaged, then I guess the only other worry would be the hose, but the hose on this vacuum feels pretty sturdy, and I would just be vacuuming tiny gravel and tiny, corroded screws - nothing sharp like tacks or nails. What do you guys think?: The aquarium vacuum cannot be compared to a regular vacuum cleaner. The motor is smaller as well as the vacuum pump. Also the particles flow through the aquarium vacuum pump where as the regular vacuum cleaners create a vacuum in the container that catches the dust and debris and there is usually a filter between the container and the intake of the vacuum pump that blocks most of the dust and debris. Make sure you check that filter before you start and when you have finished the vacuuming.

Q: Now one nipple is slightly larger than the other. How is this problem resolved? Can it be fixed?: Sounds like it caused some internal bruising and fluid from the underlying breast lymph tissue to be forced into the outer tissues and caused swelling of these tissues. It will probably resolve it self over the next 6 weeks. This is not the first stupid thing I have seen people do with vacuum cleaners. A ice pack may help take away some of the swelling.

Q: I dont mean rugs, I realize they have been around for centuries. I mean wall to wall carpet, installed on the floor of a home with tack strips, not able to be easily removed to be cleaned.I am curious about specific timing, of when home vacuum cleaners became widely available, and when wall to wall carpet became popular. My mother tells me it was sometime in the 1950s.We were having a debate of whether or not the invention of the vacuum facilitated the popularity of home carpeting, (which is what I think), or if the desire for full home carpeting prompted the production and sales for home vacuum cleaners.I mean, it would make no sense to put a floor thats not easily cleaned in a home right? Therefore the vacuum must have been pretty available before the first home carpeting went in right?: The okorder / I understand that wall to wall carpeting is definitely different now than in the Middle Ages. I would still have to say that carpet wins. People liked carpet because it looked and felt nice but it got dirty. So some genius thought there has to be a better way than to throw it out. I got an idea! Looking at the history of vacuums the manual ones would have SUCKED.

Q: My son just started crawling and of course tries to pick up every little thing on the carpet...heres the problem, he is terrified of the vacuum and too heavy for me to hold or keep in a carrier as I do it. How often do you do these chores, does anyone have a way for me to help my son not be afraid?: When my children were smaller I use to sweep and mop once a day (usually in the evenings after they went to bed), and vacuum every other day (depending on how much stuff they were sticking in their mouths). One of my sons was terrified of the vacuum (he use to scream!) but then he got to where he liked to chase the vacuum...it just depends on your kid, I don't know how to help you there.

Q: I have had several of the cheap vacuums from Walmart and they have all left me infuriated. I need one that will last for more than 2 months. Q: I am looking to replace a vacuum cleaner. I have had several Hoover Windtunnels and just purchased and returned a Bissell Pet Vac. I have five dogs and three cats and have been going thru vacuum cleaners about every two years. I am considering spending a bit more money hoping to have a vacuum last longer and was looking into the Dyson. I hate to blindly spend that kind of money on something when all of the reviews are from people who haven't had theirs very long. I am looking for people who have had their Dyson 4 or more years and I am interested in the good, the bad and the ugly. I am looking into the DC07 animal and the DC17 absolute animal.
