Q: Hey, am relocating and I need some advice about decorating my living room.the walls are white and the furniture is dark brown so which color rug or carpet/curtains will match perfectly!! please help as i cant find any decent websites!!!: As okorder / We're always taught stay within the color families but provide contrast but you already DO have contrast with white and brown so i would suggest something warmer / soft like a rug mixed with the brown found in your furniture and perhaps a baby blue: 99ccff, ccccff, ccffff Warm browns: ff9933, colors like that but i cant suggest too much until i know what style furniture you have / your decor tastes etc but the color wheel is always a good start and you might wanna mix it and match like Old Style with modern rug or Modern rugs with Old earthy colors ....good luck and i'd LOVE to see it when you're done :)

Q: My radiator started leaking and now my carpet is pretty much ruined. I've heard nothing but good about the Rug Doctor machine, but I don't know anything about using or renting the machine. Does anyone know how much it'll cost? Are the attachments needed in order to work the machine? Does the cleaning solutions come with it or is it an additional charge? Also any additional info about the machine would be greatly appreciated. Thanks: It too comes with a hose, stair tool, and cleaning concentrate. Either way, if you decide to buy, the Rug Doctor brand cleaning solutions are the best out there.

Q: I have never purchased new carpet and do not know where to begin. What type of carpet is best for high traffic areas? This will be in our living room. Thanks for the input!: It really depends on what you're looking for. Berber's do snag easily and I don't recommend them, and there are many that are expensive. A thick plush with an upgraded pad works/looks great. A medium color that will hide stains (traffic foot prints) is also better, as apposed to light or to dark and they show everything. A good installer will also make it or break it on how long even the most expensive carpets last. Make sure if your room is to large for the roll of carpet that they put the Seams out of high traffic areas. And taking care of the carpet will also make it last longer.

Q: Do I actually have to go into a store to price carpet or is there some where online I can do it? I am about to purchase a house quot;as isquot; and I'm calculating the approximate expenses of things repairs that need to be done.: You can probably get a ballpark estimate by just calculating how much square footage of carpet will need to be purchased and installed. I say ballpark because the type of carpeting you buy can vary...I've seen carpet as low as $1/sq. foot and up to $5/square foot. Installation (can vary) but is typically $3/square foot. Also keep in mind, if you're buying a house built in the 50s or before that you may have hardwood floors, with some ambition and a floor sander you could refinish that wood yourself for about $500. My sister and her family did that...it is tedious and time consuming and messy, but it saved them thousands.

Q: does shag area rugs look good on berber carpet?: I'm trying do decide if you are serious or not... Absolutely not, this would be a horrible combination. If you want an area rug over a berber, go with a more typical low-cut persian rug or similar. It will add to the decor rather than subtract from it like a shag would do. It will also be easier to walk on if it is in a traffic area.

The people who say this however have never hired a professional. for cleaning purposes power is everything, lets look at the 3 most important numbers in carpet cleaning 1 water pressure 2 vacuum lift and 3 water temperature. the rug doctor runs at about 50 pounds water pressure 3-4 pounds of vacuum lift and the temperature is water you get out of your faucet. (the rug doctor is also designed to be a spotting machine, it was not designed to clean a whole room) A machine you can buy for your personal use runs about 60-70 pounds of water pressure 5-6 pounds of vacuum lift, most are also limited to the temperature you get out of you faucet however many of the better ones do have heaters in them. A proffesional grade portable carpet cleaner runs between 75-120 pounds of water pressure, with 7-10 pounds of vacuum lift and most will have a heater in them that heats the water to about 150 F A truck mount carpet cleaning machine however typically runs at 500 pounds of water pressure, with 15 pounds of vacuum lift and heats the water to almost 200 F. If the truck mount also uses a rotary cleaning machine it will make the equivalent of over 300 passes per minute compared to 10 -15 passes with other types of machines. Also you want to take into consideration experience, as you may have guessed I'm a proffesional carpet cleaner I clean over 1000 houses a year. You may have cleaned you carpets 2-3 times a year like in all things experience counts. For the best results I suggest you call a professional cleaner, preferably one with a truck mount machine and a rotary cleaner As an incentive to get your landlord to pay for the carpet cleaning you can point out a landlord can claim carpet cleaning on his taxes

Thanks!: Rag Rugs are usually pretty durable, so take it to your local laundromat that has a large capacity washer (some are double loads and some even have quadruple load washers) and throw it in with some regular laundry detergent on cold. I would spin it as dry as you can in the machine and then take it home and let it air dry. It could shrink if you throw it in the dryer. It should wash up very well.

Thanks a bunch for your help!: I would also say to wait until you find one at a good price that comes in cream. cream colored couch would work well if you want the room to appear larger, you could then add colored cushions like chocolate brown, or add color after wards. good luck!
