- Q: My cat got sick a year ago and repeatedly urinated in a corner of a room. The cat is now gone, but I still can smell it sometimes, especially when it's humid. I've shampooed the area probably 15 times and used various enzyme shampoos, treatments. I don't have the money to replace the carpet. I am assuming that the urine is on the pad and flooring. How do I go about cleaning the flooring underneath and replacing the pad, etc. Should I clean the underside of the carpet or just lay in a spare piece?
- I am providing a link to several inexpensive and quick methods to eliminate the odor. Vinegar and water is what I have used. You soak the area, and then use towels to mop up after the recommended time period. Enzymes take time to work, so often one doesn't allow the time necessary. It can take several weeks, which is why they often have an orange scent, since cats hate that scent and stay away from that area while the enzymes work. If it gets into the flooring, you really have to seal the flooring with something like Kilz, so try soaking the area first, and that may solve the problem enough for you to get by.

- Rugs on carpet is certainly ok to do. However I found the rug would tend to wander a bit too much, and have found there is some real good material on sale that you put between the rug and carpet. This prevents all slippage, our rug hasn't moved in a long time now, and still looks great!

- A true pad won t really work since it ll bunch up,make it to thick and cause a tripping hazard.. What you should use is a special mat made just for rugs over hardwood. This type allows the rug to stay it place w/o slipping and bunch up, allows the wood to properly breathe and not stain the wood . These are bought any where wood and flooring are sold, just get the kind made for rugs over wood. Since you know your rug size you can get the closest size to your rug. - Q: It's pretty funny because we are both artist but can't seem to agree on a rug. My living room is bubble gum pink, yes and extremely wild color. My sofa is a sage or dull fern green. My coffee table is dark walnut. What color rug would you place in this room? My FI was looking at a sage color rug with modern flowers on it my only problem is that it doesn't have any pink in it. We are aguring if the rug need pink in it to match. I found a dark sage rug with light pink accents but I am afraid it's tooo dark.
