Q: for standard electric wiring, do I cut the white wire or the black wire to not get shocked?
Firstly, the power should be turned off, and secondly, you could get shocked from the active and the neutral. If you break a neutral that has current flowing through it then touch the neutral, you will complete the circuit and get shocked. Just get an electrician, it's cheaper than hospital fees.
Q: A horizontal current-carrying wire, free to move in Earth’s gravitational field, is suspended directly above a second, parallel, current-carrying wire. (a) In what direction is the current in the lower wire? (b) Can the upper wire be held in stable equilibrium due to the magnetic force of the lower wire? Explain.I assume they travel in opposite directions if they are both charged the same, but I think my instructor wants something more specific. Any help is much appreciated.
Current carrying wire does not have extra charge but only flow So there is no electrostatic force between them. The magnetic force is present only when current flows through both wires. If it flows in the same direction then they attract. So if the lower wire is fixed and you wish to suspend the above it must repel it to overcome the gravitational force due to earth acting on it. Hence the wires must carry currents in opposite direction.
Q: what does a #12 copper wire look like and waht does a #14 wire look like if you got pictures post a link thanks
go to a hardware store and look at the wires yourself....the numbers are printed on the wires....number 12 wire is the size of about 1/8 of a inch....number 14 wire is about the size of a heavy pencil lead......both these wires come in many colors......
Q: Would crepe paper stick on chicken wire?
Crepe paper needs an adhesive to make it stick to a surface, such as white glue. However, it gets messy once dampened, as the colors may bleed. Instead, I would consider working with paper mache or plaster gauzing strips, which would provide a strong skin over the chicken wire. Both can be primed with gesso then decorated with acrylic paints. If this is a sculptural piece you want to keep, we would also suggest varnishing it for protection.
Q: I keep trying to strip this damned wire but the copper wire inside the tubeing constantly ends up getting split apart instead of staying together. Im pretty sure Im doing it right Ive done it before easily. The wire is very old though could that be the problem?
Grab wire, and twist until it's back together, problem solved.
Q: for christmas im getting my dad an outdoor speaker system buttheunder groung wire costs ALOT so i was wondering if regular speaker wire will work fine if i used it and burried?
Yes but I would purchase some kind of insulation to protect it
Q: im trying to install a cd player i need to know where i can hook up power(red) , constant(yellow), and my amp seems to take alot for remote wire so i need a good source for it too i also have a eq to power but dont know if it will work with the same source as the radio
Before you go through the painful task of rewiring all your speakers, don't. Go to a stereo shop and purchase the amp bypass plug that is available for your Explorer. It will plug into the 2 plugs you pulled out of the factory amp which will allow you to connect your radio to the factory harness in the dash as normal. You also want to use the proper adapter harness in the dash for that. It will be color coded to the aftermarket radio so there will be no question as to which wire goes where. The red and yellow wires on the unit will go to the red and yellow wires on the harness.
Q: On what actually does ampere depends, thickness of wire or number of turns of wire or what else? Electrical
ampere depends on the number of turns..........
Q: I currently have a ceiling fan wired to a dimmer wall switch that controls the fan and the light, not good I know. I would like to set up the dimmer switch where it controls the light only and then i can use the fan pull switch for the fan. but i am not sure how to wire this with my current wires. In the wall box where the dimmer switch is I have two sets of wires coming from two different locations. one set has a black, red, white, and green. the other location has black, white and copper. currently the green and copper are connected and capped, the two whites are connected together and capped, two blacks are and connected to the black wire coming from the dimmer and the red is connected to the other black wire from the dimmer. how would I wire the dimmer switch to only control the light and not the fan? I want to make sure i do this safely.any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Ok, leave the copper and green wires alone as well as the white wires. Now the red and black coming from the same set should be your fan/light switch legs with red being light and black for fan itself. You may have to go into the fan ceiling box itself as it sounds the fan and light kit are connected to red wire in ceiling box especiallly if dimmer switch is controlling both. The other blacks are power legs. If both wires from fan/light are tied in with red wire, seperate them and connect the blue wire from light kit to red and cap off. With switch off, connect black wire from fan to those black wires that are capped off in box. If this isnt right connections, contact me via my email address on profile
Q: I would like to know how to wire my West Marine VHF Radio.Coming out the back of the radio is a red wire, a white wire, and two black wires. The white wire and one of the black wires are a thinner gauge then the other black and red wires. Any solutions out there? Thanks
You could solder (best), or crimp connect a waterproof In Line fuse to the red wire, then connect it to a terminal Ring, and put over the red + battery post, then ground the black wire, by connecting a Terminal ring to it and put it over the NEG.- battery post. The In-Line fuse is circuit protection, OR you can by-pass this by conecting to a spare fuse on the Panel (red +), then ground the black wire to the Neg on the battery or neg - on the panel (fuse block). Direct connection to the battery is best, the other wires probably go to the Aux. Speaker which you will need as the speakers on the radio are too small to be heard over engine noise. Soldering works BEST, then coat with Liquid Lectric tape, or heat shrink tubing for a water resistant seal on the wires, and a good Marine connection. E-mail is open if further assistance is needed.
