- Q: has black wires.
- Two black wires in the box would be a hot from the supply and a switched hot to the load. If the timer has only two wires then it should be pretty easy to just connect them. If they are marked line and load then you would have to hook the wire for line to the wire in the box that is always hot from the supply and the other to the wire marked load. If you are still unsure then it really is not a job for you alone, enlist the help of someone with a bit more experience or even an electrician.
- Q: (For my PC)I want to have a quadrophonic speakers (4 channels), but i want to extend 2 speakers, but their wires are limited and cant extend enough to reach my rear? what should i do?is it as simple as, cut the speaker wires and extend it with a common copper wire that you mostly found on most appliance you found on your home?
- Yes you could definitely cut the wires and extend with other copper wire. I would try to find wire close to the same thickness, and as others have said you need to insulate the two wires so they don't short each other. Since it's just for PC speakers, are they amplified? If you use them for watching movies etc. you may want to just get some extenders to maintain a better sound quality, but that is up to you, it will work either way.
- Q: How can I investigate the resistance of wire and how it changes with the length of the wireCheers
- get a multimeter. get long lengths of different gauge (diameter) copper lead wire. for each diameter, measure the resistance. cut 1ft off, measure the resistance, cut 1ft off, measure the resistance, cut 1ft off, etc etc. plot the resistance vs length for each gauge separately. show that the resistance is linear in the wire length in each case. now use the different diameter data to measure the resisitivity of copper. resisitivity rho = R*A/L R = resistance L = length A = cross-sectional area cheers
- Q: How do you wire an electrical outlet and light switch in a bathroom? Box is existing, wires existing.
- The first trick is to identify the wires. White wires will normally be neutral; there will be at least two colored or black wires, one of which will be the hot supply wire. Use a neon tester ($2 at a hardware store) to idenify which. If all of the white wires were tied together, then the switch will simply connect the two colored wires to each other; brush these together to verify that the light flashes. Now turn off the power at the breaker box. Connect the hot supply wire to a brass screw on the outlet, and attach a 6 piece of black wire to the other brass screw. Connect the joined white wires to a nickel-plated screw (you may need a wire nut and short piece of white wire to do this). Connect the short black wire to one of the screws on the switch, and the existing black wire to the other screw. And that should do it. Note that a double-width box is necessary for this. Code requires that a GFCI device be used in all bathroom outlets. If there is not one in the breaker box servicing the line to the bathroom, you should use a GFCI outlet device (about $12) rather than a conventional outlet. You can get a cover plate to match.
- Q: Both wires are black. One has what looks like white paint on it.
- correct.....both can be hot, as they may have been cris crossed from point to point. the best is to get a volt meter and test to your water pipe if its grounded and not eroded away over the years. problem with using an inductance tester is it may give an erroneous reading if they have been cris crossed. note.....once you find the hot of the two, the other bing the neitral will have a current on it that can be fatal, remember there is no ground to protect you, and if your in water or touching something metallic, you may be the ground path needed to complete the circuit. be careful!
- Q: i have 4 wires going to a ac unit #10 wires 2 wires for each cir. and i need to know how many amps can I run with 2 #10 copper for one side of the breaker
- 10 gauge wire is rated for 30 amps unless its a long run. I'm not sure I'm picturing the right setup you're proposing in your description but if you're talking about having two 'hot' wires and two 'neutral wires' clamped together at both ends its a bad idea. It would make sense that you could run 60 amps through the wire if it was doubled up like that but because of [science] it doesn't work like that. Not to mention any electrician or inspector would be drawing exclamation points on their notepad if they saw a setup like that. If you need to run more than 30 amps just buy lower gauge wire.
- Q: does bigger power, ground, speaker wires give more power 2 the amplifier?
- Yes for the power and ground wires. no for the speaker wires. bigger speaker wires gives the speakers better sound. and for thepower and ground wires it doesnt really give the amp more power, it gives the amp better current so a better sound since the wires have less resistance. it will help your amps give the full potential they can deliver.
- Q: pendant wiring hookup. issue: light is always on house wires: red, white, black, ground pendant wires: green, white, black (and a ground wire to the frame) I did connect red to green, white to white, black to black, ground to ground is connecting the red to green the problem causing the light to be always on? do I just disconnect the red to green to fix?
- No the problem is the black is a constant hot intended for a ceiling fan motor connection. #1) Bare and green are grounds only and no other wire should be attached to them. #2) The red should have been from the switch intended for a light fixture or kit. But it must not be attached to the wall switch or you would have tripped the breaker. I take it there wasn't a light there to start with? Are there any other wires in the ceiling box you didn't mention? If so please edit your question with more detail.
- Q: do i need a wiring harness or can i use wire crimps and do it w.o on a 2000 blazer 4wd if u think i need it plz tell me thanks
- unless you known what each wire does get the wiring harness or you very well may destroy your head unit
- Q: i have an amp (sony xm 2002gtr) that says it requires 4 gauge wire..but they cost $100+ and i have plenty of 8 gauge wires. can i use two 8 gauge wires as a substitute for one 4 gauge wire?and also, i have my capacitor grounded to unpainted metal of my car AND the ground port of my amp..is that incorrect?
- Two 8-gauge wires combined are equal to a 5-gauge wire, but that should be close enough for that amp. Make sure each wire has its own fuse near the battery; 40-amp fuses would be a good choice. If you capacitor is connected to ground, and your amp is grounded, then you don't really need a wire between the capacitor's ground terminal and the amp's ground terminal. It doesn't hurt anything, though. If the only ground wire at the amp is the one that runs to the capacitor, then you're better off connecting the amp ground directly to chassis metal.
