Q: what does a #12 copper wire look like and waht does a #14 wire look like if you got pictures post a link thanks
To most of us, they look identical. However, #12 is slightly thicker and heavier than #14. In a home, #12 is often used for electrical outlets, #14 for lighting circuits (lights/switches). To view/feel the difference, visit a local Ace/Lowes/HomeDepot as a visual picture--unless magnified--will not capture the difference.
Q: how to wire the alternator for a 77 mustang
the big black wire is you charging wire should go in the battery side of the starter relay the STA post in the alternator goes to terminal S on the voltage regulator the FLD post goes to terminal F on the voltage regulator and there might be a ground wire next to the FLD post on the voltage regulator wire A+ goes to the battery side of the starter relay and wire I goes to the charging indicator light I'm not sure were the voltage regulator is in a mustang but its a square metal box i think it might be on the radiator support or inner finder
Q: two straight and parallel wires are separated by 6 cm. there is a 2 A current flowing in the first wire. if the magnetic field strength is found to be zero between the two wires at a distance of 2.2 cm from the first wire, what is the magnitude and direction of the current in the second wire?
If the magnetic field at 2.2cm is zero it means that at that distance the fields produced by the two wires cancel out. At 2.2cm from the first wire the field strength is B= uI/ 2pi r ... . where u is the permitivity of free space, 4.0 x 10^-7 N/A^2 B= (4.0 x 10^-7 N/A^2)( 2 A)/ 2(3.14)(0.022m) B=( 8 x10^-7)/(0.138) B= 5.79 x 10^-6 Tesla The magnitude of the magnetic field from the other wire must be equal in magnitude at 3.8cm away (6- 2.2) and opposite in direction. Using the right hand rule (thumb points in direction of current and fingers curl around the wire to show the direction of the magnetic field) you can see that for the magnetic fields to be in opposite direction between the two wires the current must be flowing in the same direction as the first wire. Using the formula for magnetic field strength you can then determine the current needed. 5.79 x10^-6 T= (4.0 x 10^-7) I/ 2 (3.14)(0.038m) THen solve for I I= (5.79 x 10^-6 T)(2)(3.14)(0.038m)/ 4.0 x 10^-7) I= 3.45 A Therefore there is a current of 3.45A in the wire and it is flowing in the same direction as the first.
Q: Just got a 540 wat sound system but the speaker wires are only 5 feet, so I want to add about another 10 or 15 feet.
Any half decent system the speaker wires should not be hard wired so just replace them. To splice the wires , twist the corresponding wire together, solder and then insulate with good electrical tape or heat shrink. Still better to replace all the speaker wire. For a 540 watt system use 14 or 12 gauge wire and proper ends ( pin , banana or lug) which ever your amp and speakers require, not just twisted wire. For this gauge of wire too much of a chance of a short, if not now , in the future.
Q: how do you connect two copper wires together
a wire nut
Q: can aluminum wiring catch on fire
If you are referring to the larger aluminum wiring that is commonly found in service entrance wiring, circuits for electric ranges and such, then yes, it is safe and allowed by National Electrical Code. Please note that some jurisdictions do not accept that and do not allow any aluminum wiring. If you are referring to the smaller wires for branch circuits (regular wiring a.k.a. Romex), then you really need to be careful. This wire has been outlawed by the NEC for quite some time. Too many houses burned down because of it (my uncle's is one of them). If you have it, please have a licensed electrician inspect it soon. I cannot tell you if it is 'safe' or not in this forum. You should be looking at having it replaced.
Q: i have a 92 saturn and bought the wire harness, i put all the wires together and all that turned on was the theft light that comes on when you take off the face after that i tried putting the red and yellow wires together and it worked, just without the key having to be in the ignition and i think that is why the stereo gets so hot so can youall tell me how to wire it correctly?
The red is the main power or acc power that comes on when car key is turned. The yeallow is for the memory for radio. Another word when u store a preset radio station that yellow wire supplies continues power to store mem for ever or untill u have to change batt. The reason y it worked when u hooked yellow and red to gether is they where both getting power. If one dosent get power it will no work. Check radio fuses for the yellow wire to see if it out. If u have manuel to car that would help. I had a mustang that with the yellow wire was dead i traced the wire tried to find the prob but could not. I ran a wire from batt to radio where the yellow wire hooked up. That is the same thing just try to keep the wire away from hot areas and door jams try to runn it through the firewall of the car.
Q: The wires I have are: 1 red starter cable, 1 tan wire, 1 ground wire to the engine block, 1 red wire to the battery, and 1 red wire that splits into the fuse and into the junction strip. Really need to know which wires go where on the solenoid.
Red starter wire goes on one of the big lugs, the other big lug gets the wire form the battery and the smaller red wire, the white wire should go on the small lug closest to the battery wire and the black should got to the other small lug. Once you you mount the solenoid on the engine you will be able to tell which side the starter wire and the battery wire are to be placed on the solenoid. The wire from the starter should be only long enough to reach the top lug or the bottom lug just because the way it has to be routed.
Q: how do you hook up a wired connection with xbox 360 if you have an wireless connection(the wire included with the 360)
community overall performance would be with regards to an identical. I truly have the two and there is not any distinction. basically relies upon on in case you want to spend on the instant dongle for the Xbox, or decide for the difficulty of cable. i could go cable if this is basically as undemanding / low priced.
Q: i've got a GOTOH humbucker pick up and its only got a white and a bare wire. can someone tell me how to wire it or how it works. i'm making my own guitar and i need help with the wiring.
The bare wire is usually ground. Solder that to the ground wire that you should have wired to the bridge, and also to the sleeve connection on the output jack. The insulated wire carries the signal. Depending on the configuration you are running, whether it be a single pickup, two pickups, and global controls or dedicated controls, this can go in different places. Let's say, hypothetically, that you are using a single pickup. Then, the signal wire would go straight to the Volume pot. The tone pot would be an offshoot of the volume, which tapers the high end. There are multiple ways to wire a tone pot, should you install one, and the wiper of the volume pot goes to the tip connection of the output jack. For more information, look at some pickup wiring guides. Seymour Duncan has a lot of good ones, if you go on their site and search.
