Q:I recently took out my old ceiling fan, and now there is a Black, Red, And White Wire hanging from the ceiling, I bought a track light that has a box with a Green, White, and Black wire in it. Which wires am i supposed to connect,It's for the light Switch, and I'm not sure when the house was built, its a Reading, PA Row house.: Black and red are both hot wires; green is ground and white is neutral. Connect the black wires together and cap off the red one. This extra wire, the red one is for a wall switch. Connect the white wires together (neutral) and the green can be attached to the frame (ground wire). This is of course if the ceiling was wired right. If it doesn't work, switch the black to red capping off the other black wire. There should be directions with the new fan?

Q:I have a new light fixture I am trying to install. The electrical box has two sets of black and white wires coming in. Both of the black wires are connected together while the white wires from either set were used to connect the old fixture. How should I wire in the new fixture. The switch for this light has only one set of black and white wires connected to the light switch.: If you don't get it, you need to simply hire a qualified electrician so you don't screw up the fixture. Either that or see if there is a wall switch for the fixture for starters. Most people simply put black tape on the white wire that comes back from the switch because it is hot.

Q:its an older boat without fuse box, if you go to the manual on the website it gives you the wire layout. I know the radio works but a friend of mine disconnected the wires to try to put a switch in and never reconnected them. I don't know what to do with the ground wire or the red wire. Any suggestions?: the ground wire black is connected to -ve of battery the red wire is connected to ignition wire so when you turn on the keys the radio starts the yellow wire is connected to +ve of battery, but radio will not switch on till red is connected. good luck

Q:Hey there, so my cat chewed through some of my wires, what should I do to like fix them?: I am assuming the wires your talking about are the cords for appliances, lamps or what have you. And the type that you have to plug into your wall. You can as another post mentioned wrap the wire with black electrical tape if both side of the wire arn't touching. Or you can go to your local ACE hardware store and a floor associate would be more than happy to show you the items available for repairing or replacing the chewed wires. One of my cats started doing the same thing so I gathered the excess wire and tied it into a small bundle with a wire tie and the cat quit chewing them.

Q:The power supply is at the fixture in this case. I have 2 black wires (1 is the hot, I connected the hot to the other black to continue to the switch. The other wires are 2 white wires, 1 red wire and 2 grounds. At the switch there are multiple wires, including 3 black wires, 1 red, 3 white and 3 ground. One of the black wires I know goes on to other fixtures in another room. My issue now is I cannot get my main fixture I was trying to change the switch on to work and don't know which wire to connect to the switch. Right now I have removed the switch completely so the other rooms lights will work. Here is how I have it set up now. At the fixture black to black, white to white, red capped 2 grounds capped together. At the switch area: Black (hot from the fixture) to 2 blacks, all 3 whites connected, red is capped, and grounds are together. Which wires do I connect to the switch to control the fixture and still allow the other rooms lights to work. HELP!: If you are having trouble wiring a light switch you shouldn't be doing it get an electrician otherwise you could cause a fire.
