Q: so i was in my room thinking on how to make bearings faster so i thought of eye drops which they dont have water so i got some old rusty bearings n they dont go that fast cause there old n rusty so i put the eye drops on the bearings n they started going fast then i put them on my abec-5 lucky bearings which they r new n dont go fast cause i haven't broke them in already so i once again put the eye drops on the bearings n they went fast but my concern is, will the eye drops mess up my bearings
NO water? NO WAY. They are principally water with a few other ingredients. You are not cleaning them if you are putting the drops in and leaving it. You are lubricating them. Water works for a short time but will destroy greases or gels and if you use enough to destroy them completely (or if they were oiled) will eventually rust the bearings. Rusted bearings will never be as good as new. Cleaning involves flushing out old oil/grease/gel/dirt/etc. Water is a suitable cleaning material (but will not reliably remove many lubricants) as long as you dry the bearings before adding new lubricant. If you want to add a little material to free up bearings, just use a little light oil. It is cheap and most hardware stores carry it in small tubes with a needle tip so you can get it in small places. I haven't cleaned bearings in years because I find it better to just get new ones when they are really bad. When I do: I start with lamp oil (desented kerosene) because it will remove any old lubricant that is holding crud in the bearing. Next water with dish detergent to remove the lamp oil (some people just dry them out by draining and relube at this point) Followed by rinsing in water to remove the soap, drain, and rinsing in denatured alcohol to dry them. Then use whatever lube you like.
Q: So when the wheels don't turn too well its the bearing that need the cleaning right? If possible instructions on how to clean bearings would be nice.
If you have cheap bearings - like $15 jobbies - no. Just toss them and get new if they are slow. Stop skating in water or spots that will gunk them up. If you have good bearings like swiss - take the covers off, soak them in a glass jar of gasoline (carefully) for a good day - then take them out and let dry on a papertowel. Rip and tearrrrrr.
Q: How much would it cost to get bearings fixed on a fourtrax 250 Honda yr 2000, just a rough estimate please.?
Not sure which ones you are talking about here. If you are talking about the front bearings. Do you mean for one or both sides. Also remember this on alot of vechicals. Some are what are called pressed on and others are not pressed on. The ones that are not pressed on are alot cheaper to replace and if you and a friend are a back yard mechanics. Both of you should be able to do the job.
Q: about 2 weeks ago, i got a new longboard, a sector 9 player. I ride it around almost everyday. I noticed that the bearings are turning black. Does this mean i need to clean them? Also, they are abec 5 bearings. I want my longboard to ride fast and a long distance without having to push so much. Should i replace them with better ones? i heard bone reds r good.

Q: i heard people said it makes it stronger. but i dont know if they meant only to put the wheels inside to make the wheels stronger. because i dont want to break my bearings.thankz.
yeah i put my wheels in the freezer every time i get a new pair, i would recomend putting the bearings in but when i freeze my wheels i freeze them in a solid block of ice for a month. i dont know if it works but ill take any advantage i can get
Q: There are loose ball bearings in the freewheel part of a mountain bike. Does anyone know how many go in there? I disassembled 2 mountain bikes to make an electric bike. Now i am putting one back together and i have 2 sets but i lost some from each set and it leaves me with no clue. These are the bearing underneath the shimano freewheel locking nut... the bearing are loose under there. Thank you!
Oh JEEZ! You should have never removed that lockring. The entire freewheel body actually unscrews from the hub. A freewheel probably has in the neighborhood of 100 to 120 tiny bearings in it. I am making the assumption that you really didn't disassemble the freewheel, but rather removed the cogset from a cassette body. The easiest way to work out the number of bearings is to install bearings until there is no more space in the race, then remove one. If the bearings are from the outer edge of the cassette, there are either 8, 9 or 11. If they are from inside the hub it is the same count but the bearings are smaller in diameter. The exact number depends on the hub model. Regardless, make sure that you use either white lithium grease or a very light automotive grease...not one meant for disc brakes. Best yet is to get some grease made for bicycles. If you did indeed disassemble the freewheel, forget it and buy a new one... they can be had pretty cheap.
