Q: I got a new bmx frame, my old one was flatland and looked funny on all my street parts.Anyway, i tried putting my old fork into the new frame, along with everything else to see if it would even fit. When i put in the fork, obviously it fit since its standard 1-1/8. However, once i tried pushing the fork all the way up, the bearings at the bottom wouldn't allow the fork to go any higher, they seem to big for the frame. i took the bearings out and tried the fork alone, the fork fits fine and looks like there is still space for bearings, but much smaller bearings. is there such a thing? smaller bearings? i thought it was all standard.. if there are i will simply go to the bike shop and buy these bearings.
It shouldn't be too thick, I've framed things thicker than a puzzle. There is this sealer you can get a a craft store to put on the puzzle so the pieces don't come apart, that's if you don't mind it being together forever. I like to use swiss clips for frameless frames (kind of an oxymoron).
Q: i bought some new bearings today, Bones Reds. the guy at the shop said that they were so fast they didn't need an abec. after riding i thought that my old bearings, the rush abec-7's, went faster. i just wanted to know which is faster
probably bones reds. bones has been making bearings almost as long as skateboarding has been around. and all that abec measurement stuff is all bull poop they are just measuring how long and how fast a bearing will spin for on some metal pole they aren't measuring it under pressure and the conditions of when your actually riding so go with the bones
Q: recently my grease ball abec 5 have rusted and it is time for new bearings. which ones should i get. i am looking to spendo no more than 35 bucks
skateboarding is gay.
Q: i have a small amount of play in both of the front wheel bearings and i just want to know if i can go without buying all new wheel bearings.
2005 Ford Explorer Wheel Bearing
Q: what tools should you use
a soft bristle brush and solvent.....
Q: And if abec 5 is better. Should I put them in my penny board?
ABEC is basically meaningless for skates or boards. It is a vibration (higher numbers may roll slower) for high speed machines that are running at speeds that would be around 200 mph on a board. The quality of the maker is more important and some abec 3 bearings may run faster than other abec 5 bearings. The durability of the bearings is also more up to the maker and is not covered by anything in the ABEC standards. Bones is known for making very fast running bearings (they, along with Twin Cam and Zero Drag, make bearings that violate the ABEC standards so they can roll better) but have a reputation that sneezing near them will cause them to rust.
Q: I took my 2001 lincoln ls V8 into get the engine checked it needs work done, which is expensive, which i knew it would be. They checked my front sway bar which is broken and needs replaced.. but they took it upon themselves to check all my wheel bearings, and they are now telling me i need to replace all of them! cause my bearings or hub is loose.....but i don't notice anything odd or any noise when i drive... they say it will cost almost 2400 $ to replace cause they have to buy the whole kit set up and cant buy just the piece.... does this have any truth to it? any advice is appreciated
First of all you don't ever have to change all four wheel bearings unless all four are bad and that's highly unlikely. Second the price for changing even all four wheel bearings should be at most $300. The sway bar is a different story but with this mechanic trying to rip you off on bearings, I wouldn't even trust the swaybar assessment. Find a different mechanic. BTW, wheel bearings are supposed to be a little loose, that's why when you install them you tighten the holding nut and then back it off.
Q: I took my car to the dealer within two months of purchasing it (after I had taken it another repair shop--being told that the bearings needed to be replaced). The dealer told me that it was most likely my bearings but that for the time being they were only going to rotate my tires. Now the dealership is telling me that my tires are worn and that I need to replace all four tires. My car had 20K miles on it when I bought it with this tire issue. Thanks for any advice!!!
Depending on the make of vehicle some wheel bearings are sealed units(called hubs) and cannot be re-packed but have to be completely replaced as one unit.Again depending on the make of the vehicle ,bad wheel bearings don't always affect tire wear.Improper alignment usually causes uneven tire wear.To find out if the tires are the original from factory, look at the sidewall of the tire and find the size designation (e.g. 225/55/16).Right above these numbers you will see the following TPC SPEC and a few numbers if the tires are factory originals. Alot of dealers consider alignment as a maintenance item and expect you to pay for it.A good dealer who values your business can do the alignment under warranty. If the vehicle still has the bumper to bumper warranty ,the wheel bearings should be a warranty item, especially if they have truly failed already. Don't be afraid to challenge a dealer.A good dealer will always work with a customer to make them happy. You don't have to buy a car from them but they need to sell you one.
Q: can i use rubbing alcohol to clean my skateboard bearings?
No, and don't use WD-40 either. Go to the skate shop and they should have Bones version of WD-40 specially made for bearings.
Q: does anybody know what the best liquid to use for cleaning bearings?
Unless you plan on throwing your bearings out the next day, DON'T USE WD-40. I would suggest 90%+ Rubbing alchohol, but if you can't find that, 70%+ is alright, but it could kill your bearings, but its not a big chance.
