- NEVER use WD-40! EVER. moving on. if you can remove the bearing shield (the little rubber/metal covering on the outside of the bearing), do so. then get a small tub/bucket of soapy water and clean the shields. for the actual bearings, i'd get the Bones bearing cleaning kit. it has a bottle with a shaft on the cap so you can put the bearings on without touching each other, it's only like $5 bucks. if not, just get some sort of bottle with a semi-large opening and put them in without the shields on. what you put in is very important. i use isopropyl rubbing alcohol, but i think you can use anything that's not citrus or water? based. swish them around and change the fluid until there is no more black residue coming out. dry them out with a blast of compressed air. then put in your silicone lube. NOT WD-40. only about 2 drops/bearing. i use Bones speed cream. put the shield back on and put them back in!

- are you sure only the rod bearings are affected and no damage to crank pin ? remove the oil pan and work under the engine. when you remove the oil pan you can have access to connecting rods, you just unbolt the rod cap and replace the bearings then re-torque back the cap's bolts. you may turn the crankshaft while working around on each rod..

- They are probably 1/4 or 5/32 diameter balls, but the rest of your question leaves me wondering. The hubs that your bike has are quite OK for the grade of bike you have, and just replacing the bearings will have no effect- or if anything a negative effect- on the operation of the hub. Keep in mind that the bearings run on cups pressed into the hub and on cones that are threaded onto the axle, so replacing bearings on a new bike without upgrading these items is useless. By the way, my guess is that the cups and cones can't be upgraded. I suggest that you leave what seems to be a brand new bike alone and stop trying to improve on something that doesn't need it. If you have some problems, see you dealer and explain it to them- chances are any adjustments will be free (or cheap).

- You dont need new wheels and bearings, because you wont know what the difference between them even is. Ride what you have until you know why you need a new part. If you do not know why you are getting it, then you dont need it. If you are to get new bearings, NEVER spend extra on expensive bearings! $10 or $15 would be the most I would ever buy. One you know that cheap bearings from good brands are better than those expensive Bones bearings, then you will never buy expensive ones again. If you need new bearings get Magic, MileHighSkate, or DBS bearings for $9. They are double sealed, and work great. All bearings will spin the same as long as they are cleaned and lubed when needed. Never use WD-40 as a lube! If you ever want need wheels, look at brands such as Abec11, Nersh, Cult, Metro, Sector 9 Race Formula, Seismic, Earthwing, Venom, Gravity, and Landyachtz.

- bones are the bearings most wanted, but people usually go with mhs or mini logos just because of price. as long as they spin, they will work. just don't go spend $150 on some bones swiss ceramic abec9 crap that are barely better than some random $10 bearings you can get in zumiez. btw for boards look at kracked skulls. you can find many 5% off discounts on line.
