- Q: recently went to tire discounters to get some new tires, and they told me both wheel bearings were bad and my tie rod end was bad? me being a diy'r on most car things i said ill fix em, but they refused an alignment til my problems were fixed, though the wheel bearings aren't making any noise yet, i figured i would change them once i had the extra money to pick up a press and the bearings and shims i may need to press it in, if i replace just the tie rod end will they be able to align my car?
- Sure you can, but as soon as you back it off the rack, the alignment will change. Repack your wheel bearings before they burn up. It is easy and does not require a press (I generally do not use a press to do wheel bearings). Also change the seals while you are repacking the bearings.

- Q: i noticed they had some dirt in them after rideing around a bit and it happens to be from just 2 bearings from 1 wheel, ive completely disasmbled the bearings and tried to put them back to getter but the ball bearings just keep locking up on me !!! its been frustrating me like crazy man, and i know its not from not having lube they always have lube in, its just the reassembly that wont go well.
- Remove bearing covers. Be very careful to keep them in the same shape. Then fill a small container with WD-40. Soak the bearings for around 5 mins, while stirring occasionally. When you feel the bearings are sufficiently rust-free take them out and place them on the paper towels. Quickly take the bearings to a sink and put the water on fully and rinse the bearings thoroughly and quickly. Make sure that all the dirt and grime/ rust are removed from the bearings! Dry them off with a rag or paper towels, then air dry to finish. Apply a small amount of lubricant, put bearing covers back on and spin bearings to spread lubricant. Make sure that you lube them, WD 40 only takes the moisture and rust out of the bearings, its not a lube.

- ?!?!?! NO! Finger acetone cannot be used to clean bearings. You can clean bearings with a few things, I can only remember WD-40 at this point of time. Remember to completely dry the bearings before adding the correct lubricant and re-capping them.
- Q: i am looking for new FKD bearings but i dont know which is better: FKD Abec 5 steel shield or abec 5 neoprene??
- Really no difference. Neoprene shields are a little easier to get out if you are going to clean or relube the bearings but you only have to take one out per bearing and only do it one time (since you don't reinstall the one you removed).

- the bearings are inside the wheel. depending on the abec rating depends on the speed. two bearings for every wheel and your set.
- Q: I recently had a repair done to my vehicle, and on the bill,they noted wheel bearings make noise. I went back in to ask the mechanic, and he stated to me that if I drive down the road I hear a roaring noise, and those are my wheel bearings. I asked him if this is something I should get taken care of right away, and he stated, no, not until it is very loud, so loud that you cannot drown the noise out with the car radio. - If okorder . I'm sorry you encountered such a lame mechanic as wheel bearing noise is a great indicator the right, left or both should be throughly inspected and serviced. Im sure you don't want the dirty son of a gun to seize of fall off the car while you're driving.
