Q: There two different places in the house that have had candle wax spilled on the carpets - Berber carpet and Mini Shag carpet: Where the wax is puddled, you can whack it and break small pieces off. Some you can pull off. The part that's melted into the fiber is the part I've always ironed off. You need an iron that's trashed (second hand store) or will be after this project. The iron can be used later for crafts. Rip a paper grocery bag open so it'll be one big flat paper. Put it over the wax. Place the heated iron on the bag and pull the bag as you leave the iron in the same spot, until no more wax melts into the paper. You keep doing this until you've removed all the wax that will come up. I've been able to get so much out that it nearly felt soft and supple again. Best wishes.

Q: My radiator started leaking and now my carpet is pretty much ruined. I've heard nothing but good about the Rug Doctor machine, but I don't know anything about using or renting the machine. Does anyone know how much it'll cost? Are the attachments needed in order to work the machine? Does the cleaning solutions come with it or is it an additional charge? Also any additional info about the machine would be greatly appreciated. Thanks: Okay I have used one before I owned my own carpet cleaner. I really liked it. The cleaning solutions are an extra charge. I don't remember getting any attachments. I think when I rented one it was like $60 plus the solutions.

Q: We just rented a house and the carpet has a very powerful urine smell. The landlord said he had the carpet cleaned and won't pay more. Is there a way to remove the smell permently? I don't want to mask the smell. i need a solution that really works and is cheap and effective. I see no visable stains just the super strong odor. I think it is berber carpet: Get a black light to locate the problem areas. But it could be that it was so soaked with urine it went underneath and affected the actual floor. If that's the case it needs to be torn out and replaced. If your landlord refuses I would seek legal advice. Anyway, if you can locate the problem with the black light soak it with a viengar/water solution (50.50 mix) and then sprinkle baking soda on it. Once it dries vacuum it up. That should solve your problem. but like I said, if it's gone through the carpet to the actual flooring you're going have to demand more be done. That's nasty, I hope you're able to get it solved quickly!

Q: Im deciding whether to get a wooden floor in my room or a carpet. I already have a carpet and it is really old and smells bad. Lol. What should I get? And why?: Carpet - it;s easier to vacuum than to sweep and polish a wood floor

I then found Sears brand of Dry Carpet Cleaner which costs $26 dollars for a large box (in the appliance maintenance department) and it works awesome. It picks up spots that have been there forever and leaves the house smelling soooo fresh! It drys (you must lightly mist and brush in) in about 2 hours, and you will be amazed. Because there are no soap residues left behind, the carpet stays clean with regular vacuuming! I have my own carpet cleaning machine (high end model) which I am now getting rid of it! Try it, you will never go back to shampooing carpets again!

Q: Is one of the two supposed to be softer than the other? More durable? Easier to clean? I want a sisal type area rug. Sisal - the strength and durability of natural fibers, Wool - the soft underfoot feel. Sisal wool rugs have the best of both worlds - durable and soft. Jute is also soft, one of the softest natural fiber rugs. I guess the best way to compare the textured feel is to go into a rug shop and feel the difference of the materials.

Q: I have this OLD area rug from my grandmother. The pattern is beautiful and the rug itself is is good condition, however I'd like to brighten it up! -Especially the white areas which have now gone yellow. Anyone have any ideas on how to clean/treat this rug and restore/brighten it without damaging it with harsh chemicals, like bleach?: Resolve spot remover carpet cleaner followed by Woolite Heavy Traffic carpet cleaner really works well on my Oriental rugs. I've always cleaned them myself with no problems. Test a little place on the back to check for colors to make sure they don't run.
