- There should be a tag somewhere on the rug with cleaning instructions. Generally, if something says washable, it means machine washable. Go to the JC Penney site and look for your rug. The larger ones have to be washed in a large commercial washer. If you do the smaller ones at home, I would wash two at a time to keep the washer balanced.

You need to make sure that the padding underneath the carpet will be clean and dry, so you may even need to lift up the carpet to check the padding. Then blot it with a towel to get as much of the moisture out as possible, and turn a fan on that spot and leave it for a couple of days until you are sure it is completely dry. Then work some baking soda into the carpet and vacuum it up.

- I once got a nasty vomit stain in my oatmeal color carpets, I tried to clean it with regular Resolve but it didn't work. In desperation, knowing that dishwasher detergent is excellent to remove grease stains in white clothing, I used it on the carpet, and Eureka!!!!!, the stain disappeared completely. So, I decided to try using dishwashing detergent instead of the regular carpet detergent solution in the carpet cleaning machine and my carpets returned to it's original gorgeous color and all stains were gone. The carpets not only were cleaner, they smelled wonderful. Another good point of using dishwashing detergent is that is very low suds so it leaves no residue.

- There is a patch kit available at home depot. If you have extra carpet of the same kind that's great, if not, look in a closet or area where your room is carpeted but not seen and take some of that carpet.
