- Q: I bought a wiring harness for my 2001 Ford Focus with a non-blaupunkt factory cassette player. The wiring harness doesn't match up exactly. A reviewer online said his didn't match up either, but still worked. The factory wiring has 7 slots and the one I received has 8. What do you think?Factory wiring on the left, the harness I received on the right:Constant Voltage - Constant VoltageGround - NothingIgnition Voltage - Ignition VoltageConstant Voltage - Illumination/DimmerGround, switched - NothingGround - GroundNot Used - Power AntennaNo Slot Here - Remote Turn onIt's mainly the Constant Voltage - Dimmer connection that worries me.And I know I can just hack up the wiring and skip the harness all together, but I'm trying to keep it simple and neat for the next guy/gal (which may be me for all I know). What do you think? Thanks in advance.

- Q: need to know how to properly wire this amp in a truck
- wow I have never heard of this amp until u mentioned it. the ratings seem good. ur best option would be to call sonic electronics have them send you a manual on how to wire this amp. they sell this amp. I mean u ask how to properly wire it. wire it to get power ? or to the woofers ? red wire + goes to your battery. black wire - goes to your ground (not your battery) to the frame of ur vehicle. then u need a blue wire, your remote this wire goes to ur stereo's remote wire it should be the same color or it will be marked. but if u do not know how to hook up an amplifier u should go to a professional shop due to the fact if u improperly hook ur amp up YOU CAN START A FIRE IN YOUR CAR.
- Q: How much does it cost to install telephone wires in your household?Does it cost around $200.00 ?
- It entirely depends on how hard it is to run the wires form location to location. If you have an attic it probably won't be too bad. If you have a two story home it can get really expensive.
- Q: I'm trying to fix a light fixture for a friend. Her father-in-law gummed it up. At the fixture, there are 3 white wires soldered to a single wire. There are 3 black individual wires and one red wire. There are three switches that control the light. If I hook one of the black and the 3 white to the light, the light stays on constantly. If I hook either of the two other black individually, nothing comes on period.I'm pretty much at a loss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
- There are three switches that control the light? Remove the cover for those switches and check what color wiring is connected to them. If you have 3 blacks, two could be power to the switches, and the other is line voltage from the panel. The red could be a runner for a 3 pole switch. Whites are neutrals. Trial and error unless you start tracing out wires.
- Q: its an older boat without fuse box, if you go to the manual on the website it gives you the wire layout. I know the radio works but a friend of mine disconnected the wires to try to put a switch in and never reconnected them. I don't know what to do with the ground wire or the red wire. Any suggestions?
- the ground wire black is connected to -ve of battery the red wire is connected to ignition wire so when you turn on the keys the radio starts the yellow wire is connected to +ve of battery, but radio will not switch on till red is connected. good luck
- Q: I have noticed that a room in my house is improperly grounded, and it needs to be redone. We do know that most of the wiring is made with a single core, copper wire. Would there be a hazard with using a multi core (speaker) wire for the grounding, or should we do the wiring with a single core wire.
- Because it's stiffer. It's also a better conductor. Stranded wire would usually have to be in conduit. I would not use speaker wire anywhere in my home for grounding. It's against the electrical code in every state. Do it right the first time.
- Q: Is it possible for a wire to arc with a nail? The u-nail that hangs the wire to a wooden support beam looks like it was hammered in too far and may have cut through the insulation around the wire. Is this a fire hazard or can I leave it as is?
- Did it cut through the outside sheathing or one of the conductor sheathing? If its just the outside sheathing, remove the staple and secure the wire further away. Use electrical tape and wrap the cut...If it has penetrated one of the inside conductors, well, without seeing it its hard to tell you. The biggest concern would be if the wire ever overheated there is less 'insulation' to prevent it from burning into a neighbouring wire. Err on the side of caution. More detail would help.
- Q: does bigger power, ground, speaker wires give more power 2 the amplifier?
- Bigger power and ground wires will help, up to a point. If your wires are already big enough that you don't have a significant voltage drop between the battery and the amp, then bigger cables won't help anything.
- Q: The light fitting I bought has 1x Red Wire (A) 1x Green Wire (E) and 1x Blue Wire (N)...
- The green wire is just a ground wire, black is usually the hot wire, that would leave the blue wire as the neutral wire. The white wire in house wiring is the neutral. The two red and one black from your wall is not standard in the USA, but it may be 220 volts. What kind of light fixture are you replacing, is it on a ceiling fan?
- Q: I am wiring a GFCI receptacle with two regular receptacles after it.So before the GFCI I have my 12/2 wire from where it will hook into the box (the line side), after it I have my wire going to the two other receptacles (the load side).Well the GFCI receptacle has screw terminals for the line HOT and WHITE wires as well as a GROUND. On the bottom it has screw terminals for the load side but ONLY the HOT and WHITE, no ground screw.Does this mean that I don't hook up the ground for the load wire or does it mean I have to pigtail the ground to the same screw the line ground is using?I didn't want to assume that I connect the line and load grounds out of fear I was circumventing the GFCI.
- Maybe you got a bad GFI Recepticle!!! all the ones I ever worked with have a place for the ground wire!!! Take another look at it!!! maybe someone didnt put the green screw in?? Bring it back to the store and get another one!!!
