Q:My boat came with a rule 500 2-wire auto pump. I have an on/off switch at the console. My replacement has 3 wires. How do I connect the 3 wires and still use my on/off switch?: It all depends on the function of the third wire. The instructions that came with the pump should tell you what it's for. If you're only using the pump with the switch you only need to apply 12V and a return to the pump. The switch could be in either leg, but will normally be in the +12V leg. The third wire could be an earth ground for safety or you might have a built in float switch so that you can apply 12V directly to that 3rd wire. When the internal float switch goes high enough it will turn on the bilge pump for you. Your best bet is still to read the instructions before you install it though...

Q:I've seen people use it as ...umm..energy generating...majiggy.. (but not alot of energy) including a magnet/something about a magnetic field or some sort?and instead of MAGNET WIRES can i use SPEAKER WIRES?(RADIO SHACK): Magnet wire is just solid copper with a layer of varnish for insulation. Speaker wire would work, but you could not wind the wire as tightly due to the thicker insulation. also the wire is very flexible and will not stay in place very well. Also, if the coil gets hot, the insulation on the Speaker wire will start to burn or melt. .

Q:The outlet box has 2 black wires capped together, 2 white wires capped together, 2 bare wires capped together, and a single red wire. The light fixture I want to install is a two bulb fixture that has 2 black wires, 2 white wires, and 1 bare wire.: The wires on your ceiling fixture are called ROMEX. This is the big casing that has two insulated wires and one bare wire. The bare wire is the ground. The romex coming into the box comes from the source and the other comes from the switch. Black is HOT coming into the box from the Romex that has only the black and white wires. To be sure about this, take the cover off the switch on the wall and see what wires are present there. This might show that a three way switch is installed somewhere if there is two switches that control that light. As far as the light fixture that you have, connect the two white wires and the two black wires together and then one of those pair goes to the white wires in the ceiling box and the other goes to the red wire.

Q:im installing a JVC raido in my 1990 nissan maxima and cant figure out how to properly conect the wires: The easiest way to install the head unit is to buy the harness adapter that's for your car and match the colors of the harness adapter to the head unit wiring harness. Q:I had recently closed up an outlet by taking the four wires and capping them off. Only to find out the two of the wires were for the ceiling fan power. I have a black and a white wire newer travelers to the ceiling fan, and two old cloth wires which look black. I do have an electrical tester and just want power for the fan, I will cover up the outlet. What wires go where ?: Wire nut the old hot wire to the black and the old neutral to the white. Connect the grounds together also. Find which is the old hot with your tester. Not with your finger. Good grief.

Q:im throwing in a radio in my 2002 f-150 and i need the color codes for the truck radio wires: buy a wiring harness for your particular veh. it,s color code. very simple you won,t have to cut your wires. so you can always just put stock radio right back in.

Q:My tail light work but when i hit the breaks everything go out. Any answers? Standard 4 wire: I believe that you have a bad gound wire, i realize that the ball should be enough to ground it , but it dosen't always work like that , so make sure that your white ground wire `is hooked up to your truck frame and the white wire coming from the trailer is connected to the frame of the trailer

Q:I have a set of two rotating beacon lights on my truck. I would like to wire these directly to the vehicle with an on/off switch. I picked up a two prong toggle switch from autozone, as well as some wire. I'm not sure how I need to do the wiring. I read somewhere about running wire from the fuse box? And how about grounding?: Run a wire from the positive side of the battery to one of the prongs on the switch. Then attach another wire from the other prong going to the light. Take one wire from each light and wire them together. Then take the other 2 wires and wire them together. On those lights positive and negative don't matter. Now take one set of the wires you put together and attach them to the wire from the switch and the other set of wires ground them anywhere on the vehicle.

Q:I have a 200 amp main breaker just below my meter, which is mounted on a pole. The neutral wire coming in is run to ground. From this box, I've run 2 cables (1/0) ~80 ft to another box with a 150 amp main breaker. This box is grounded to an 8ft ground rod. I am wondering whether this setup (no neutral wire from meter pole to building) would potentially allow a ground fault without tripping the 200 amp main. For example, if somebody dug into the line with a backhoe? Oh yeah, the cable is in a 3ft deep trench that will be covered.
