Q: i think i messed up the wiring to my headunit. its not the wiring going into the headunit, there is no power from the wires. how much should it cost to get the wires checked out and fixed somewhere?: is it the factory radio? what type of vehicle? are the wires cut?

Q: what is the yellow wire, what is the grey wire, and the black: Depends on each stereo and the wiring in your truck. Black is probably a ground. As for the yellow and the grey, one is probably a constant 12v, the other a keyed 12v. If the wiring is on your truck, get a voltmeter and test it. If the wiring is on your stereo, get the manual for it.

Is this a fire hazard or can I leave it as is?: Electricity moves very similar to water it will always find the path of least resistance. So yes if you cut into the wire you will energize the u-nail. Your best plan is to remove the nail carefully while there is no power in the circuit examine the wire and if there is a cut through the insulation replace the wire. I say this because from your question it sounds like you are in the electrical rough in stage. You can install a J Box there but by code it must be accessible so that would mean there would be constant reminder of the problem in the wall.

Q: does anyone have a wiring diagram for a rccb or can you explain how to wire one up . as an rcd has a wiring for connecting to earth but an rccb does not have that.: #2 is correct. GFI's (RCD's) don't need the grounding conductor. Only the hot and grounded (neutral) conductor are needed for proper operation.

Q: I'm looking to install a ceiling fan in a fixture that recently had just a light (no idea if it ever had a fan). When I removed the old light, I found that there were three white wires from the ceiling twisted together and connected to the white wire on the light fixture, one black wire from the ceiling connected to the black wire on the fixture, and three black and one white ceiling wires just capped together, not connected to the light fixture.Any idea what the last 4 wires are? I would think that I just need to leave them alone, however, I have to replace the box in the ceiling with one that is rated for a fan, which means I need to (temporarily) disconnect them. I have the breaker turned off that turned the light off, but can I be 100% sure that power to those other 4 wires if also off?: You don't have to know what they are, but other anwers are good esp with regard to safety. You can choose either to leave them alone or disconnect them and reconnect them inside your new ceiling box. If you want to disconnect them, be sure to mark all the cables first so you can't make a mistake when you reconnect them.

Q: My home is wired for the thermostats with two wires (red and white). I have acquired a new thermostat that requires a Red, White, and Common wire. Using the white wire in that position will power the unit up but it won't trigger the heat. Is there something that can be put in line that will allow this thermostat to work without rewiring the house?: Connect a new piece of 3 wire to the existing 2 wire and pull it through the wall by pulling the 2 wire. Of course if it gets stuck you will need to measure how far you pulled to know where to cut a hole in the wall. Cutting a hole in the wall if needed, isn't a big deal you just put the piece back, screw or nail it down (cut so you have studs on both sides to reattach it later) tape and plaster and paint.
