Q:I have just started wire working to make bracelets. I have a few questions. 1, is there a place where I can buy thick wire (16 to 18 gauge) in bulk? The items I am making take about a yard of wire. Considering the only thing I could find was 16 (or slightly hire) gauge in 7 foot increments. For new wire workers, do you have any suggestions on cheap practice materials. Q:Help me, please! I have an old air conditioning system...made in 1985, and the condenser fan went out. Long story short, I bought a new fan and I don't know how to hook it up. The old fan had 4 wires coming out of it: purple, black, green, and brown. The green is the ground and the brown and the purple went to the capacitor, black to power. Then there were two smaller black wires attached to the capacitor and they lead out to other components. My new fan has a green wire, a white wire, a black wire, a brown wire and a brown and white striped wire. My problem is this: I don't know where to attach the white wire or what to do with the two smaller black wires that were attached to the old capacitor. I was told by the gentleman who sold me the fan that I splice the white wire to purple wire - then do I hook that to the capacitor? What do I do with the two smaller black wires that lead out to other components??? (Cap them off???) I am confused and need some advice!: I suggest having a tech. wire it in for you, but your new motor should be wired this way, the black and white are your hot and common, so 208v unit, hook black wire to L1, white wire to L2, green is a ground, ground it to cabinet somewhere, brown goes to one side of run cap, brown/white goes to other side of run cap. if you are unsure about how to swap it out then seek someone with some electrical background or an hvac tech., dont hurt yourself or your equipment by doing it improperly, good luck with it!

Q:(PRIOR TO READING, I SUGGEST YOU LOOK AT THE IMAGES AS IT WILL MAKE THINGS A WHOLE LOT EASIER TO UNDERSTAND)I purchased 2 neons from Repco. That run off your cigerette lighter with an adaptor. They worked fine, until my friend got in my car, and accidentally dropped something on the adaptor which caused it to malfunction, and bam, my in-car neons (placed up under the dash, near where your feet rest) went out.: wire is wire. If it really is silver then theoretically it should conduct electrcitiy better than copper. But that doesn't really matter much. wire is wire. all it needs to be able to do is carry the electrical current. If wiring truly is your problem, then that will work fine.

Q:Just bought a new amp for my truck. The speaker outputs needs to be indiviually wired to the door speakers. Do you splice into the speaker wire or the trucks harness?: ideally you want to wire directly from the amp to the door speakers with new speaker wire but doing this properly requires removing some of the trimming and passing the new wires throughout the car. you can also take the easier route and pass the wires from your amp up under the steering wheel behind the center console and splice them into the existing wires going to the door speakers. as long as the wattage isn't very high the latter shouldn't be a problem. however, if it were up to me i would use new wires and pass them throughout the car, removing the trimmings, etc. this can be somewhat of a pain to do if you have never done it before though.

The importance is that with the switch off, the 'neutral'carries no current, while the ?ctiveor 'live wires carry current at all times.

Q:how do you connect two copper wires together: You have your choice. Some choices depend on the use of the wire. You can solder them, join them with crimp connectors, use wire nuts, or use screw down terminals. If the wire are for electrical house wiring, wire nuts are requires. If for low voltage inside equipement or the like, any of the listed methods will work fine.

Q:I need to wire a single 120v outlet from the 240v volt wire I use on my compressor. Im installing a 120v electric automatic drain valve on my large shop air compressor. The compressor is wired up with SJ00W 10-AWG, 4-wire power cable (red,green,black white wires). and is rated at 240v @ 15-amp(compressor not wire). The drain valve uses a normal house hold current wiring config. (black,white and open copper)The 240v power supply is the only supply I have near by, (two of them actually) Or I would just wire the automatic valve off an outlet and call it a day. So How do I wire a 120v 3-wire set up from the 240v 4-wire supply? Thanks: I swear these people on here are crazy sometimes. People he was never asking how to wire e recepticale. He is asking how to take a four wire 240vac connection to a 3 wire 120vac connection. He is wiring it to a auto drain valve that has a termination box on the side of it or a pecker head as we used to call it. Here is how to do it. Go to your breaker panel determine wick breaker is feeding the cable/wire your wanting to use. Once you have done this remove the breaker panel cover. Then remove the wires from the breaker. These should be the red and black wires. Now remove the two pole breaker and replace it with two single pole breakers rated at 20 amps. Using black electrical tape, tape the end of the red wire up and secure it inside the breaker panel so that it is out of the way. Now land the black wire to one of the breakers you just installed. The second breaker will not have anything wired to it, it is a spare to be used later but must be installed to cover the hole left by the two pole breaker. Label you panel to indicate the auto drain valve and the spare breaker you have just installed. Now at the auto drain valve the black will be the hot/L1 white is neutral/L2 and the green is ground. The red can be taped up and secured out of the way or cut back and taped up if you don't think you will need it in the future.

Q:I have a 220v single phase kiln with two red wires labeled L1 and L2, and one white wire labeled N. It did not come with the plug, so I bought one and new wire 3/c 10awg, but it has ground(green), Hot(black), and neutral(White). I dont know how to proceed with wiring? any help would be great. Jose: How 220v works with 4 wires: (one wire to each) 1 Black wire carries 110v (L1) 1 Red wire carries 110v (L2) 1 White wire acts as a common (neutral) 1 Green wire acts as a ground How 220v works with 3 wires: 1 Black wire carries 110v 1 Red/White wire carries 110v (if you use white flag it with red electrical tape) 1 Green wire acts as a ground/common (Do not actually ground this) If you have 4 wires in the wall, but you are wiring them to a 3 prong receptacle, connect the green wire to the green ground screw on the receptacle or if no ground screw is present, attach this wire to one of the receptacle mounting screws. That way if the common fails, you still have the added protection of a ground. Some wiring installations may use different colored wires, this doesn't change how anything works. If you have any doubts, get a voltage tester and make sure.
