- Q: what size of wire should I use for my 1.5hp aircon, 220volt
- It depends on the amperage draw, it should say on the rating plate. 14/3 for 15 amp, 12/3 for 20 amp, 10/3 for 30 amp, 8/3 for 40 amp and 6/3 for 50 amp and so on.
- Q: why is neutral wire.explain plz
- The neutral is held at ground, to give a path for the current to return. The ground is for safety.
- Q: I am in the middle of changing my thermostat and I am so lost on where the wires go! Anyone who knows anything please help.My old system was labeled and hooked up like this:White Wire (W)Red Wire (R)Blue Wire (B)Green Wire (G)Now I am looking at my new system and these are the spots that I have:(G) (RH)(RC)This has a red wire attached like a jumper wire(Y/O) (W/B) (Y1)What wires do I plug into where? Please re-post with the wire color next to where it should go.
- red wire to stat rh and rc. keep jumper in white wire to w/b green wire to g blue wire to y1 if your ac does not come on when called for, put blue wire on y/o. your blue wire is your cooling wire, nowadays we use yellow, but blue is used by old schoolers and retro fits.
- Q: I keep trying to strip this damned wire but the copper wire inside the tubeing constantly ends up getting split apart instead of staying together. Im pretty sure Im doing it right Ive done it before easily. The wire is very old though could that be the problem?
- There is isia tool called wire stripper available in tools store.Buy one and use it.It can be adjusted for different guague of wires,it cuts only insulation not the copper wire inside,
- Q: On what actually does ampere depends, thickness of wire or number of turns of wire or what else? Electrical
- Higher current requires lower resistance in order to prevent heat buildup in wires. Multi-strand wires are not suitable for higher amperage applications. Stranded wires have higher resistance and insulating air pockets, which will cause them to heat up with increased current.. possibly to the point of melting insulation and/or causing fire hazards. Some stranded core wire uses material other than copper to cut costs, which further increases resistance. Large diameter solid core copper wire is the standard solution. They offer lower resistance and better heat handling ability. The trade-off is less flexibility and lower durability in moving or reuse situations.
- Q: where also is fourth wire hooked in?
- If it is coming from the box at the street into your circuit breaker panel, I'll take a guess. Earth ground (Usually connected to a copper water pipe or a metal pole driven deep into the ground) Neutral (0V) +120 V (Most household circuits) +220 V (Dryers, stoves, possibly air conditioners and other devices needing lots of power. These have special plugs.) Unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure you know what you are doing (and it sounds from your question like you may not be) DO NOT mess around with mains wiring in your house and especially wiring coming into your house, since that isn't even on a surge protector to keep you even remotely safe. If you mess around with this stuff without knowing what you are doing, you could wind up DEAD or in the hospital VERY easily. I can't stress enough how dangerous electricity in large quantities is.
- Q: The wire on my headphones were cut clean off in the middle of the wire. Is there any way it can be fixed? I tried to find out other ways but it seems one of the only ways is to strip the wire of its covering. Is there a way to fix it without burning the wires?
- I totally agree with Mr. Smith. However, I would use heat shrink tubing for a neater look than the tape.
- Q: i have an amp (sony xm 2002gtr) that says it requires 4 gauge wire..but they cost $100+ and i have plenty of 8 gauge wires. can i use two 8 gauge wires as a substitute for one 4 gauge wire?and also, i have my capacitor grounded to unpainted metal of my car AND the ground port of my amp..is that incorrect?
- Two 8-gauge wires combined are equal to a 5-gauge wire, but that should be close enough for that amp. Make sure each wire has its own fuse near the battery; 40-amp fuses would be a good choice. If you capacitor is connected to ground, and your amp is grounded, then you don't really need a wire between the capacitor's ground terminal and the amp's ground terminal. It doesn't hurt anything, though. If the only ground wire at the amp is the one that runs to the capacitor, then you're better off connecting the amp ground directly to chassis metal.
- Q: tryin to move dryer approx 8 more feet but existing wire not long enough have 12/2 wire can that be used to run 220 dryer
- Really shouldn't use no. 12 wire on an electric dryer...No. 10 is usually the mininum wire size as long as its not more than 30 or 40 Ft.
- Q: so im doing a custom buggy and i need so different colored wire im looking for a place to get lots of different colored wire for cheap
- id try a hardware store or radio shack.
