- Carpet / pad and labor will start out at 2$ a s/f and go up from there depending on the quality of the pad and carpet. At this price it will get you just a low quality carpet w/o warranties and a cheap pad. Check padding out , get a minimum of 5 1/2 # . This will cover your carpet warranties. When you get to the 3$ a s/f then you ll be getting into the carpets with a 5 and 7 years warranties.And these are more of themid range carpets. Watch the warranties, some will offer only stain blockers.Get the anti mat, anti crush protection. Wear warranties are different than the anti mat , anti crush, so watch that. GL

- Answer depends on various factors namely:- (I am assuming it is a genuine hand knotted rug) 1.) Age 2.) Knot Count 3.) Color combination (Whether the colors are properly set) 4.) Quality of wool 5.) Vegetable Dyes/ Chrome Dyes 6.) Your Patience (Desperate sales are always at a pittance) But still, for a 192 Sq Ft rug , I would say that you should at least expect about $ 18-20 per Sq Ft if I assume that you rug is just about average in all the factors enlisted above. - using a sharp carpet knife or razor knife you can cut out the old smelly carpet, but make sure that the new peice is cut exactly the same. You need to make sure that the carpet runs the exact same way or you will notice it. To see the difference take a peice of carpet and lay it next to your other carpet and see if it is noticeable. if so you have it running the opposite way. turn it and see if it runs the same way. then you need some carpet tape that you need use carpet iron with to seem the carpets together. If your not experienced in carpet laying I would suggest you get a carpet professional to lay the new peice in so that you won't be able to tell. or for a quick fix, you can buy carpet neutralizer for the urine smell but you would have to peel the carpet up and the padding and treat the sub floor with it and the padding and the carpet. It will neurtalize the urine and stop the smell.

- Ginny is right on. You can also use paper towels. First scrape off as much as you can with a butter knife. Also, when you use the iron, make sure you don't let it sit too long or bear down too hard or you will risk burning the carpet fibers. I had this happen in a huge spot on my carpet last year and there is no sign of it anymore. Good luck.

- Your point is valid about vacuuming area rugs, but i feel that it is less work to vacuum one small rug and clean one large wood floor than to keep a large carpeted area clean. Stains on carpets are a nuisance as well. I prefer carpet in the bedrooms, regardless of the maintenance because i don't like getting out of bed and stepping on a cold floor. Hard floors are ideal for any other part of the house.
- Q:You know how bathroom rugs frequently have rubber backing on them? I was to know if there is a way to reapply the rubber backing which has fallen off and cracked due to age. The top of the rug is fine.

- Q:We have a large carpet that we want to cut and lay over our cream one (to save it as we have a two year old) The carpet WILL fray and become untidy and we have heard that it will cost 80p per 12 inches to get it 'overlocked' or is it called 'binding' (the edges sewn up so it doesnt fray) and we just cant afford it as the measurements are 16 feet x 9 feet = ?40 (odd)... Ive done a little research and have come across 'double sided carpet tape' (?) also I see something else 'GLUE'.. that can be used. Does anyone out there know how we would do it... the tape AND glue (?) Can someone give me step by step instructions or directions on how to stop this carpet from coming undone and fraying.
