- Never a double sided tape, it will leave a residue and attract dirt. The use of a pad as some say is the right way to go. Its actually a very thin mat that goes under the rug. It has a tacky feeling but leaves no residue. There are a couple different types for your rugs. Some are made for rugs over hard wood ( allows the wood to breathe ). Some for rug over carpet and some for rugs over a hard surface. These don t react with a vinyl and stain the vinyl. After a few months, depending on your foot traffic, they lose there tackiness because they naturally collect dirt. They are washable and return to their natural state and work again.
