- Protein stains, such as urine, blood, semen, will glow with a whitish tint. I've checked a thousand carpets with a black light,in total darkness, mainly to assess the extent of urine contamination so a decision can be made to either treat the stains or tear the carpet and pad out. I have never come across black stains as you describe them. In any case, even after extensive hot water extraction cleaning, the glow will remain. In your case, whatever caused the spots you see is probably long gone from the carpet, just the residual effect remains, which is permanent.

- To be very honest with you, the only rug of that size you will find for under $50 will have to be second hand and likely not in great condition. I have never in my life heard of finding that size rug at that type of price. Good luck. - Where the wax is puddled, you can whack it and break small pieces off. Some you can pull off. The part that's melted into the fiber is the part I've always ironed off. You need an iron that's trashed (second hand store) or will be after this project. The iron can be used later for crafts. Rip a paper grocery bag open so it'll be one big flat paper. Put it over the wax. Place the heated iron on the bag and pull the bag as you leave the iron in the same spot, until no more wax melts into the paper. You keep doing this until you've removed all the wax that will come up. I've been able to get so much out that it nearly felt soft and supple again. Best wishes.
