- You should look in the yellow pages for your area for a rug cleaning company that does area rugs. I know of a couple of places like this in San Diego, where you bring in the area rug (any size, really), and they hang it up on a big scaffold and clean it with pressure washers. I don't know how much it costs, but they always seem to be busy. So, it can't be that expensive.

- I have found that Oxiclean is probably the best solution. If you cant find it in a liquid form, try to dilute some in some HOT water and then adding it to the machine. Good luck.

- You can buy carpet dye but I am not sure if you could dye just a small area and it match and look good. I'm not sure either if you could use Rit dye. It's possible you might be able to find a product like fabric color pens that you could use to sort of fill in the bleached area. A carpet person could possibly cut out the bleached part and replace it with a section from a closet if your closets have the same carpet. It would depend on the type of carpet, its condition and age, etc.

- For loose debris and bits, take it out and give it a good shake like a rug. For tough 'stains', I use a spare, unused coarse-bristle toothbrush to bring them out of the carpet, then wash it down in the bath tub with hot water. I would not use any chemicals. Use only disinfectants that are reptile-friendly, which you can usually find at pet stores. I have never put my reptile carpet in the washing machine, because I get the feeling it would probably disintegrate.
