Q:I have carpet beetles. Will carpet cleaning kill them? If not, what should I do to get rid of them that is pet friendly.
I have had a major problem with black and variated carpet beetles and no matter what I did, they kept coming back! I don't want to buy bug spray because I have a 6 month old boy. Recently I went on a whim and started spraying down the baseboards with colgate pro health mouth wash since someone told me it works for bugs and then I did an experiment. I found a beetle escaping running across the kitchen floor so I sprayed him and he was running, running, running then fell over dead! I decided to add some lavender oil drops to the mix to make it smell nice. Then, I was cleaning the bedroom and I had found a carpet beetle larvae out of its hiding spot so I took it and put it into an empty container and sprayed it with mouth wash and took it out right away on a dry piece of paper and only after a few seconds, it was dead. Try mouth wash. So far it seems to be an effective way of killing them- all life stages. Since the stuff doesnt have alcohol and if you spray the baseboards only, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't make a pool of it.
Q:How do you remove carpet glue from the floor?
Nail polish remover. The usage is similar to alcohol acetone. The effect is also good. Washing water does not require quality, good or general, as long as you can wash off all nail polish.
Q:How do I clean my large area rugs? I have hardwood floors and the rugs are covering different areas. Two are 4 x 7 rugs and the other is a 5 x 7 wool carpet. I don't want to harm the wood floors underneath with cleaners...
Karen's answer will be ideal, only positioned it contained in the backyard and soak the crap out of it.. yet in case you do not have a backyard, the bath will do. positioned it in, positioned some detergent in, (and doubtless the salt to assist keep the dye from going everywhere) sleek it round lots and doubtless enable it soak, then drain and top off the bath till you experience it is rinsed.
Q:appropriately enuff my mom gave me an area rug and she smokes, so does everyone else around her, we don't smoke at my house...febreeze only makes a quot;freshquot; smokey sicko nasty smell.
Sprinkle the carpet generously with Corn Starch (best) or Borax or Baking Soda Make sure you have a fresh bag in your vaccuum! and check it often Let the Corn Starch sit for a minimum of 2 hours - overnight is best. Vacuum and you will notice a remarkable difference the goo attaches to the powder and it is removed from the carpet. when I quit smoking I had to do this several times but it was worth the effort. Try to wait a few days in between applications - and always a fresh bag!
Q:Installer told me floors need conditioning and rugs may leave marks due to the sun.
Depend on the wood and finish. Some woods ,like cherry, will darken with the sun. Under the rug will stay light. I never recommend rubber backed rugs on hardwood, never, never. The rubber may discolor the wood forever. Its OK to use a regular area rug, with a cloth back and a rug hold underlay.
Q:Please take a look at the following sectional. Can anyone tell me what color accent rug to buy? I dont want too much more brown because I am scared it will look over bearing. But it is hard to find an orange that matches the couch pillows perfectly. If this was YOUR couch what colors would YOU do?
maybe a beige rug. Or a tan and brown or tan and orange rug.
Q:This is for a translation of a list of stationary
I'm afraid there is no such thing.
Q:The other day I just found out that I had a hand-made rug that was made in Iran and bought by my grandparents about 10-15 years ago, the rug is about 6x8 and they paid around $2000 dollars for it.My question is what is the proper way to clean a rug that is hand-made? It has not been cleaned in years only vacuumed... and also is there a market place for these rugs? if I do decide I want to sell it.
The best way to clean an oriental rug is either to wash it yourself with bicarbionate of soda and vinegar, or farm it out to be washed by a company that specializes in oriental rugs. NEVER use detergent or a chemical cleaner, or dry clean, an oriental rug. All these substances will destroy the protective lanolin in the rug. A 6x8 would be really easy to do yourself. First, vacuum it face-down to loosen the deepest dirt, then right side up. You can either lay the rug on flat, clean concrete (not tarmac), or hang it over a couple of ladders or a fence. Then, rub bicarb all over it, then saturate with vinegar; it will foam up and push out the dirt. Rinse well. The advantage of doing it on a flat surface is you can squeegee it, then hang it. If over ladders, it may take a few days to dry.
Q:I have pets. Is it okay to have a solid floor, like tile or terrazo, on my living room floor and just put a big rug on it instead of carpet? Do you thik that will hurt the resale value of the home?
Carpet is a matter of taste. In many cases there is a allowance given by the seller of a home to a buyer for carpet. Very seldom does a buyer keep the carpets installed by I seller. I've even seen a seller install new carpet just to have the buyer rip it all out before they move in. Save your money and buy a through rug.
