Q: Erm... I spilled beer on my carpet.Do I need to use a carpet shampooer or can I just scrub it out? Does it stain?
as a IIcrc Cert. Carpet cleaning Tech, I can tell you that if you didnt get all the beer out of the carpet, and what i mean is if the padding is still wet it will form what is called a water stain witch most of the time will come out if you clean the carpet again but dont use soap in the carpet cleaning machine put it in a spray bottle and spray it on the carpet first let it sit for about 10 mins, then put rubbing alochol in the water water about 1/2 cup then the rest hot water. then dry good
Q: My carpets are heavyly stained, i have shampooed them using bleach, but the resalt i want is to bleach them as close to white, or clean i can get . Ihave to small children in the house to think about too! Any suggestions on how to clean the carpet myself, within a day would be great!
I would be very leary of using bleach on carpet. First of all, most carpet has manmade fiber ( nylon or polypropelene, for example) which will melt if bleach hits it. Second, the padding underneath is generally a recycled material that wil disintegrate when the bleach hits it. Third, carpet fiber is held together with a stiff substance that looks a lot like burlap to which the carpet fiber is looped and glued. Bleach will cause the glue to release its adherence over time. Now if your carpet is Olefin, it can take bleach without any of these consequences occurring. But in the final anaylsis, you have small children and bleach is caustic. I would be afraid of having bleach sink down into the padding and having it walk back up to the surface where it could harm or worse yet, poision your children. If you are looking to both brighten the carpet and remove the stains there are many cleaners you can use in a rental steam machine that will do the job, but won't whiten the carpet. You can even use oxyclean diluted in the machine or straight to remove the stains as a pre-spotter. Capture, Resolve, Nature's Miracle and Tech all make heavy duty cleaners that can be loaded into a steam cleaner. Folex found at home depot can brighten and remove most stains with little effort, too.
Q: carpet is provided. very inexpensive type of carpeting
This is business question. I can tell you there is a minim so its not the size of the repair (how small). It is a question or overhead skill and knowledge. I'm guessing $40 to 80 depending on overhead and how far you are for the person to get to you and how long it takes to set up, repair, get it right, tear down (load up the tools) and get back to the shop..Plus the cost of any materials no matter how small materials can be anything from glue to the fabric to gasoline for the truck depending on how the person charges. And remember he has truck insurance and telephone and family just like the rest of us.
Q: What if I went to Home Depot and bought a sheet of rubber cut to just a bit less than 8' x 10' and then a piece of felt the same size - glue them together and pop the area rug on top?Would that work?
Hi Blue Eyed Homo, I am a flooring associate that works at The Home Depot, and I know that some rug pads seem to be expensive, especially in your size. I've worked in other departments and been with the company for almost 10 years and I have yet to see a sheet of rubber that will sell in the store other than pan liner for tubs that would work in your situation. Also, you won't find at our store pieces of felt in that size. Plus, felt just won't be able to grip the rug properly especially if you have a hardwood floor. Did you check around your local stores flooring department? I think I may have a less expensive solution for you. Carpet padding, not rug pad, but the kind ppl place under their carpets. It may not look pretty but its made to not be seen anyway and it works great for big area rugs your size. Home Depot sells carpet pad in pre-cut 6ft. by 9ft. rolls or have your flooring associate there cut out a size for you. Bottom line....the carpet pad will be way less expensive than the rug pads we sell, and you'll still have a slip resistant surface for your new area rug for years to come. Hope this helps, aboveaveragejoe
Q: i've asked this question 3 times before, but it hasn't worked :(Red is booked in for a trace/blanket clip in a couple of days, and i was wondering if i would need to rug her up a little bit more? she is a thoroughbred chestnut (someone told me that chestnuts have thinner skin??) and is in a 100g fill w/ a neck rug atm....the coldest it has been lately would be about 10/11 degrees c....the next rug we have is a 250g fill with neck rug, so it's quite a step up...Um... yeah... would i need to start putting that on, or do you think she will be O.K??
Yes, I always add more rugs once clipped this year my boy had a 360g stable rug with neck and a fleece with neck under it most of the time. But it was going down to -12 some nights, if I'm not sure what weight to put on I usually put the heavier rug on then see how he is in the morning if he's to hot then I put a lighter weight rug on the next, he's pretty good at telling me when he's to hot though.
Q: I don't think it would be a good idea to have one in a dorm (harder to clean, etc.) so what should I tell my roommate? She won't give up on trying to convince me.
If your only reason for not wanting the rug is that it would be more difficult to clean, then agree to get a shag rug only on the conditions : 1. she purchases the rug (which will then obviously be hers to keep once you two stop living together); 2. she cleans the rug; AND 3. she doesn't get bent out of shape if you think the rug needs cleaning and you then ask her to do so. If she is trying THAT hard to get you to okay having a shag rug, then I'd let her do it, as long as she knows that it is her responsibility to clean it, AND that cleaning is subject to both of your subjective opinions on cleanliness.
Q: I'm getting ready to put new frieze carpet (similar to a shaggy carpet). I have a dyson vacume cleaner I have heard that it doesnt vacume that well on frieze carpet. Is that true? Is that type of carpet durable? Thanks for your feedback.
I can't answer for the dyson question, but I have frieze carpet in my house and love it. the husband wanted full blown shag and I compromised (I wanted berber) any way, it is durable, tough and does not mat.really happy with it and we have it in the highest traffic areas of our house - the hallway and stairs as well as the master bathrooms. every time I vacuum, it looks just like it did the day they put it in. I have a kirby and vacuuming it is a breeze. I have not had any issues other than not being able to find earrings in the carpet if I drop them. It cleans beautifully as well.
Q: why do linoleun floors yellow with area rugs?
Chemical reaction between the rubber backing and the linoleum, some of the antioxidants used in the latex or rubber backing compound are of the 'staining' type (which are generally amine- or sulfur-containing) and could easily migrate to the residual unsaturation in your linoleum.
Q: Hi everyone, how do i take a plain white area rug and make a black floral design on it on parts of the rug? like on two corners and maybe a swirl or two in middle ? i know ive seen people use templates and literarly spray or paint over template to make design. then use a sealer or something i dont know :( help thank you
I did a design on an outdoor sisal type rug and it came out really nice. I used spray paint and sealed it with polyurethane. You can get the templates at a craft store or make one yourself. There might be a problem if there is a high pile on the carpet. The design might not have clean edges. You could try one section of it on the back of the rug. Or get a carpet remanent with a pile like you have on your white carpet to try. If the design does not have clear edges you might be able to touch it up with a tiny paintbrush. I don't think a dye (like Rit Dye) would work. It would run and make a mess. I think you would have to stick to a surface treatment only-like spray paint.
Q: Carpet size abroad. What's the size of this carpet?
The carpet, in cotton, hemp, wool, silk, grass and other natural fiber or synthetic fiber raw materials, by manual or mechanical process of knitting, woven tufted or ground paving material. It is one of the arts and Crafts categories with a long tradition in the world.
