- Go look at carpet; they price it by the square foot. See what kind you want. Remember to add in the price of padding and labor. Also, it's better to buy great padding, and lesser quality of carpet if you have to make a choice. The great padding can be kept when you buy carpet the second time. It really extends the life of your carpet, no matter what quality of carpet you buy. And some carpets are better for hiding stains than others. I get beige colored carpet, because it goes with about any color scheme I've come up with.

- Since your house is newer, unless you specifically purchased carpet with flame resistance, it's going to be a synthetic material like nylon or polypropylene with a really low melting point. All of the different types have a lower melting point than wood will burn at. The question you need to ask the fireplace salesman is, what temperature does the unit emit at the base? If it's enough to melt the material, put clay bricks underneath it. Clay is a natural insulator, and you can set em up in some art deco style manner. Also little sparks have a tendency of getting in carpet and I have a woodburning fireplace in the basement, it's messy; bringing in wood brings in bugs, look up your local bugs.. So make sure you plan for keeping the carpet clean and spark-free!

- no it shouldnt if you cleaned it well but just to make sure go over it again with some kind of strong cleaner or bleach and it should be fine

- It CAN be done, yes. However, I don't think this is a DIY project. There are companies that can do this. I have no idea what's involved or what it will cost, though. From white to red is a big change ... and keep in mind that red, whether on hair or walls or fabric, is THE hardest color to achieve, the most likely to fade, and the least likely to turn out the way you intended! (How do you feel about pink carpet?) I honestly don't know how you'd find a company that would specialize in carpet-dyeing ... perhaps call a store in your area that sells and installs carpet, and ask who they recommend for color services.

- You okorder ... Make sure you use the Graffiti formula, not the Original. The Original formula doesn't work on ink. Krud Kutter doesn't smell bad, it's non-toxic, and the bottle will last you forever. Hope this helps. -
