- Q: people tell me i need to install new valves and valve guides
- You might not need new valves or valve guides. Mitsubishis, along with many other vehicles, use hydraulic lifters which give off a ticking sound. They're located between the rocker arm, or in the rocker arm, and the head of the valve. It's very common and will not harm the engine. However, if the sound you're hearing is more of a rattling, like putting some nuts and bolts in a glass jar, you may need to pull the valve cover off and inspect for yourself to make sure that the rocker arms do not have any play to them while they are pushing on the valves. If there is any play in the rocker side to side, you may need to replace those rockers. However, if there is any play up and down you may just need to replace the lifter. To better check if you need new valves or valve guides run through this checklist: Are you burning oil? Have you done a compression test (both wet and dry)? And if so, were the compression numbers within spec? Have you felt a loss in power/idle quality/gas mileage? Is your oil level correct/using the correct oil/non-FRAM oil filter? At your next oil change, instead of using the recommended 5W-30 engine oil, try switching to something a little heavier, such as 10W-30, to cancel out the effect of possible lifter tick. Do not use a FRAM oil filter if you have in the past since they're filters tend to have additives that are unnecessary and may cause the engine harm.
- Q: I have mitral valve prolapse, I want to continue lifting weights.. Can i lift weights?here's my latest echo result.1. Normal left ventricular size with non-thickened walls with adequate wall motion and systolic function (EF = 70%)2. Normal left atrium without intracardiac thrombus3. Normal right atrium, right ventricle, main pulmonary artery and aortic root dimensions.4. The anterior mitral valve leaflet prolapses into the left atrium during ventricular systole.5. Structurally normal aortic valve, tricuspid valve and pulmonic valve.6. No pericardial effusion noted.COLOR FLOW DOPPLER STUDY:No abnormal color flow display across the valves, interatrial and interventricular septae.Normal pulmonary artery pressure by acceleration time.
- overall picture doesn't prevent you from doing mild to moderate exercise, but with wait lifting we should think twice.
- Q: I had to replace the seat washers/stems etc in order for the constant drips from the kitchen faucet to stop. It did; but when i went under the sink to turn the water valves back on, the hot water valve felt as something inside it went smooth??? i can turn the hot water valve left and right but nothing is happening. No hot water at all from the kitchen faucet..Also there's low water pressure from the cold water that only came about when I tried to turn the hot water back on from the valve underneath the sink
- Unfortunately most valves used today are made of plastic that only look like metal on the outside. Sounds to me like you and I live in the same house. I have to replace four different shut off valves because they are stripped. I am working on the kitchen one right now. Stripped Valve with no cold water and very little pressure in the other valve. If you ever have one replaced by a plumber, insist on all metal valves. I will physically inspect them from now on before they replace them. Once stripped nothing you can do but put a new one on.
- Q: I need a ball valve that when you shut it off it sends a signal to a light that indicates that it is off.

- Q: My third valve is always sticking, despite the fact that I oil them thoroughly every other day. It scrapes the sides of the case when I take it out/put it in, it's almost as if the valve is too big for it. Often times it will stick and I'll have to unscrew it and physically pull it out for it to be functional again.I've inspected it, and the inside looks just like the others which are fine. I've tried washing it, oiling it, and putting a trace amount of vaseline on it. What is the problem?
- Check the spring and plastic valve guide on top of the spring. I've seen these stick and the results are quite annoying, but once the spring moves up and down freely, so will the valve.
- Q: I have a 2004 yfz 450 and in the passed 4 rides (about 2 hours long each), one of my valves has stayed down and been broken when the piston came back up and made contact with it. After putting it back together the first time i checked numerous times to make sure timing, valve movement, and camshaft movement were all correct. and just 2 rides later (today) the same thing happened again. I have not began work on it yet so i do not know if it is the same valve. But has anyone ever had this problem before? Is this something frequent with yfz's or am i missing an important maintence issue? And can anyone tell me why this is happening? All help and tips are much appreciated!! Thanks!!
- Valve guides wear and get loose, so the valve stem binding up in them is highly unlikely. If the guides are shot, they should be replaceable. Sometimes valve stems warp and will cause your problem, but the odds of it happening a second time are also unlikely. Once you tear into it, I guess the deciding factor will be if it's the same valve or a different one. When this happened, were your rpm's high or otherwise? I ask because if when high, I'd check for a broken or weak valve spring/s. Most have one spring inside of another to reduce harmonic vibrations and if the inside is broken, not only will you not have adequate spring resistance for high rpm running, but at a certain rpm the remaining spring will be quivering like a dog pooping peach seeds. The other thing that may have happened is the camchain tensioner isn't locking tightly. If so, that would let the chain jump a tooth or two and then Mr. Piston and Mr. Valve get into hand to hand combat. The old 6 cylinder Kawasakis were well known for having crappy tensioners that would do just that. However, with them, it usually happened during startup. Or, you may have had a camchain guide fail and with it laying in the bottom of the oil pan,the tensioner isn't able to take up all the slack in the chain. When you get it apart, let us know what you find because I suspect you need to be looking for the cause of the bent valve somewhere else than the valve itself.
- Q: The time has come to re shim my 06 450, and I am having a small problem (I think anyway). The exhaust valves have decreased to below the required spec and need to be replaced with thinner shims (as is usually the case), but the left intake valve has for some reason increased its valve clearance (from 0.16mm to 0.23mm). Is it normal for the valve clearance to increase? I thought they would only decrease... Any ideas? Unless the valve is being held open by something. Many thanks, Jim
- You want to do a clearance do you? Blow up the car.
- Q: I got a '99 bmw 740il that is leaking and burning oil. It shoots smoke out the exhaust when i first start it from burning oil. And the car misfires when idling, i did a tune up and the spark plugs were soaked in oil causing the tune up not to help anything for long cause it was missfiring the next day. Does this sound like the valve stem seals? I bought new valve cover gaskets and grommets and im gonna replace those this weekend, im hoping that will help. Comments please

- Q: If you suffer from Heart Valve Disease why do you get tired or struggle breathing?
- Heart valves are barriers, described as doors by the Texas Heart Institute (see Resources) that control how the blood flows through the heart, and ultimately throughout the body. When one of the four heart valves becomes diseased or damaged, you are at risk for more serious heart problems because your body must work too hard to get the blood flowing. There are several causes of heart valve disease that can be treated through medications and corrective surgery. Infection Heart valve disease can be caused by certain types of infection. Older people who had rheumatic fever before antibiotics were used to treat the disease may have sustained heart valve damage. Infection of the valves themselves and the walls of the heart can cause heart valve disease. Congenital Causes Some people have heart valve disease simply due to how they were born. Congenital defects of the heart include a mitral valve that is narrower than usual, or a misshapen aortic valve. Tissue Degeneration Older people may have valve dysfunction due to a degeneration of the tissue of the mitral valve. This condition is called myxomatous degeneration. Thickening A thickening of the valve itself, most often in the aortic and mitral valves, can lead to valve disease. This is another cause that is more commonly seen in the elderly. Heart Disease You can develop heart valve disease if you have had other types of heart problems, including coronary artery disease or a heart attack.
- Q: I own a 1982 Pontiac Firebird base model which has recently started leaking oil from its Proportioning Valve. I have looked all over the internet for a replacement, and it turns out GM has discontinued the part. Now im faced with difficult and risky task of attempting to fix it, or turn it over to a repair shop as a last resort. The valve seems to leak out of a small circle with a hole the size of a needle inside which was covered by a rubber gasket. I have no clue what this does, and how to repair it.
