- Q: I am trying to replace the window switch for the driver side and forgot the order of the wires. Can anyone hlep me.
- The plugs will only go in a certain way . they a keyed that way so you don`t do it wrong 93t/a owner
- Q: wiring for generator
- You okorder /... made for your panel, it requires a little more electrical experience to install, and the parts are specific to each installation. It costs just a little more, but gives you the option of feeding any circuit in your panel that your generator can handle. The cord you need would be #10 awg, the 120 and 240 designation indicates you will need a neutral, two hots and a ground, so it would be a 4 wire cord.
- Q: my husband is running wire to a hot tub, which uses a 220 plug. he is going to hook up a 30 amp breaker. what size wire should be used?
- First thing you need to do is call your city's building inspectors and get necessary permits. !!! For your protection. #10 wire for thirty amp breaker. For 220VAC you will need 3 wire (three conductor cables) plus ground wire for a thirty amp breaker. But question is what is the ampacity rating of your hot tub? You need to size your circuit breaker to the ampacity of your hot tub. Breaker is going to have to be a two pole (double pole) breaker GFCI breaker since it is 220 VAC. since it is for a hot tub. You should have a red wire a black wire a white wire and a bare wire in your cable. The black wire and red wire are your hot wires they go to the breaker. The white wire is your neutral (grounded conductor) it goes to the terminal strip where all the other neutral wires are connected in the breaker box. The bare wire is your ground wire! It goes to the ground wire terminal strip in the breaker box. Now that said if you or your husband is not absolutely sure about what you are doing get an electician to do it for. First water and electricity do not mix at all good together. Good way to get fried if tub goes hot on you if hooked up wrong. Good way to burn the house down if hooked up wrong as well. Another thing since it is a hot tub meaning like wet area like bathrooms and out side special considerations are going to have to be taken for safety namely you are going to have to use a GFCI circuit breaker or have a GFCI double pole switch to disconnect the tub incase of a short circuit or excessive current leakage to ground otherwise you end up bolied lobsters. Well done and ready to eat by the time you are found. Not as easy as just hooking up three wires is it. And if you do not know exaclty what you are doing call an electrician.
- Q: i got this switch with numbers 1 , 2, 3, and 4 on it and 4 wires red, green, and two black. Which wires go to which number?
- Well it is defintely a 3 way switch. The fourth (green) wire being the ground. I can't tell you by the numbers, but I can tell you by the screws which wire goes where. If it does not apply to your switch you may need to go get a new one. They are inexpensive. The green, ground wire goes to the screw that is usually attached to the arms ( metal extentions that hold against the sheet rock. Now you need to find the red and black wire that are together. Look inside the box where the wires come in and you should be able to tell if the red and black are in the same sheathing. These are your travelers. The travelers need to go on the two screws that are across from eachother. One goes on the right side and one goes on the left. Does not matter which side. The last black wire, depending on which of the two 3 ways you are at is either your power or your light leg (wire going to your light). This wire goes on the last screw. Hope this was helpful.
- Q: let me start off with I am not an electrician I just do basic stuff for side work I came in the project at the end. The lady wanted me to wire in 6 receptacles, a light switch and light fixture all on one circuit. everything is good except for the receptacle at the start of the circuit it has the lead/ hot coming in the power to the other receptacles going out and the power to the light going out (3 groups, 9 wires total). normally I would have used a junction box but I didn't pull the wire. How can I wire this. Would a 15 amp receptacle work?
- A 15 Amp receptacle will work, of course, but the receptacle box is most likely already overfilled. So in order to keep the wire count down, your best way to go is to buy a receptacle that uses screw down connector tabs. (NOT the kind that you have to put the wire under the screw, but the kind that you insert the wire into the back and then turn the screw down to clamp onto it!) The receptacle is a little more money but it would be worth the expense to make this hook up work. Hot wire (Black): Connect all three black wires to the back of the receptacle on the brass colored screws. Common wire (White): Connect all three white wires to the back of the receptacle on the silver colored screw. Ground: make a short pigtail of bare copper wire (about 6 or 7 inches long). Then connect the pigtail to the other 3 bare copper ground wires using a wire nut. Then connect the other end of the pigtail to the grounding connection of the receptacle. MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF WHEN YOU DO ALL OF THIS SO THAT YOU CAN LIVE TO TELL THE TALE! :-)
- Q: I'm trying to fix a light fixture for a friend. Her father-in-law gummed it up. At the fixture, there are 3 white wires soldered to a single wire. There are 3 black individual wires and one red wire. There are three switches that control the light. If I hook one of the black and the 3 white to the light, the light stays on constantly. If I hook either of the two other black individually, nothing comes on period.I'm pretty much at a loss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
- Can you post a picture?
- Q: I recently purchased a 1-wire alternator and I'm not sure what to do with the wire harness that was on my stock alternator. Also not sure what the three wires on it go to. Can anyone experienced in alternator wiring tell me what these wires do and if it is ok to leave them unhooked?
- the three wires are prolly alternator turn on one wire for the guage and one random maybe ground or something what you need to do is look at the instructions that came with the 1 wire alternator to see if it needs a turn on lead if so you can check the three wires you have with a meter to see which wires put out twelve volts when the ignition is on this is a turn on/ignition lead then youll wanna find the lead that goes to the guage on the dash and make sure it gets twelve volts so the guage reads the other can be capped off
- Q: i'm building a race car out of a buick century and the tail lights wires got cut, come to find out the fuel pump ties into the talight wiring harness, i found the wires going to the fuel pump but i'm not sure what is what, there's 4 wires going to it, black, black with a white strip, gray, and pur any ideas what is what please so i can just run a switch to the fuel pump... thanks
- Examine the wires at the fuel pump junction on top of the fuel tank. I'd bet one of the wires is the GREY wire. Another way you can determine which is which, get a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) and turn on the lights. Check to see which line has power. That's the line for the tail lights. Then have someone step on the brake pedal. Another wire should go hot (have voltage on the DVM). Slowly you will be able to figure out which wire does what. The left over wires (likely two) are for the fuel pump. Good luck. :)
- Q: i already tried wiring this light, but it didn't work. I always thought black wire to black, white to white and ground to ground. i connected the light fixture black wire to the three black wires (as shown in image) and the light fixture white wire to the three white wires, and connected ground wires together.when i flipped on the breaker, the light came on with the switch on off and the breaker tripped. i'm assuming this is wrong and i provided an image as i see in my ceiling mount. Can somebody kindly direct me how to properly connect the light fixture to these wires. thanks!
- without seeing the ceiling fixture container and wiring myself, i may well be hesitant to propose you as to what the greater wires are for. I anticipate which you mean the sector on the ceiling has those wires in them, not the ceiling fixture which you obtain, on account that that could have had a wiring diagram that explains what the wires may well be for. If I had to guess, i might say that the sector contains 3 wires because of the undeniable fact that it is going to have had a ceiling fan that operated on a various substitute than the easy, or possibly the easy is additionally controlled from 2 particular switches on unique aspects of the room, or may well be the two one in each of those. Do you have gotten an AC voltage tester to verify which wires are sizzling (stay) and which at the instant are not? I hate to propose this, although by potential of and massive your great wager is to conform with the wires back to their source to look what they're for. Do you have gotten a faux ceiling you are able to open up? Do the wires pass into the attic or crawlspace the place you ought to look at them jointly as not having to tear open the gypsum board or plaster ceiling? you ought to easily positioned all the whites mutually and all the blacks mutually, and verify the grounds are in place, hoping they have a reason. although now not information what they're there for is a sturdy thank you to rationale an electric fire. and that i'm specific doing that could now not be authorized via your close by electric development codes.
