Q: Hi there,I have a very old house which only has 2 wires (1 white, 1 black) coming out of the wall. The ceiling fan / light has 2 red wires, 1 black, 1 green. What is right way to wire for this to operate? Thanks,
Most fans have a wiring schematic and this will tell you how to wire it. Normally black is the power, green is a ground, which you don't have, and as for the red wires I'm not sure. Is this a new fan or one that has been used before. In the USA we have a white wire which is a neutral. I'm puzzled about the two red wires, these may have been added at a later date. If your in a country that has 240 volts then this may be an explanation. Regards, Dale
Q: i know what spark plugs are but what are plug wires and the purpose of getting them. what do the plug wires do? someone told me that it was time to get spark plugs and plug wires replaced on my 2000 impala.
Spark plugs are part of the ignition system where a spark is created igniting the fuel in the cylinder of your car. Plug wires are electric wires that connect the coils high voltage electricity to the spark plugs. Spark plugs are usually replaced based on mileage on your car or if performance seems to be dropping. You might notice sluggishness on acceleration for example or a engine miss. Plug wires should be replaced if you noitice cracking in the insulation or if you have a problem not resolved by the plugs. Plug wires can be tested before replacing and i recomment just a good shop manual to do this. Plug wires do not replacing everytime you change spark plugs but only if damaged, cracking etc.
Q: Wire diagram
Hello there George, It has become common over the past few years that non-residential boilers are wired with EPO (emergency, power off) switches just outside each door to the boiler room. This is similar to having fire alarm pull boxes by the exits. I do not know of any jurisdiction that requires it for a residence. On occassion I've seen the 24 volt circuit for the thermostat being switched, which is a bit sketchy. Normally the 120 volt circuit for the controller is switched. The switches used are of the pushbutton type.
Q: Two current carrying wires are perpendicular to each other.Wire 1 is placed on top of wire 2.Wire 1 current direction is pointing North, wire 2 current direction is pointing east. Is there a force on either of the two wires?Does one wire spin due to the produced force? Please explain to me how to do this questionThanks
very confusing subject. look into on to bing and yahoo. just that can assist!
Q: my husband is running wire to a hot tub, which uses a 220 plug. he is going to hook up a 30 amp breaker. what size wire should be used?
First thing you need to do is call your city's building inspectors and get necessary permits. !!! For your protection. #10 wire for thirty amp breaker. For 220VAC you will need 3 wire (three conductor cables) plus ground wire for a thirty amp breaker. But question is what is the ampacity rating of your hot tub? You need to size your circuit breaker to the ampacity of your hot tub. Breaker is going to have to be a two pole (double pole) breaker GFCI breaker since it is 220 VAC. since it is for a hot tub. You should have a red wire a black wire a white wire and a bare wire in your cable. The black wire and red wire are your hot wires they go to the breaker. The white wire is your neutral (grounded conductor) it goes to the terminal strip where all the other neutral wires are connected in the breaker box. The bare wire is your ground wire! It goes to the ground wire terminal strip in the breaker box. Now that said if you or your husband is not absolutely sure about what you are doing get an electician to do it for. First water and electricity do not mix at all good together. Good way to get fried if tub goes hot on you if hooked up wrong. Good way to burn the house down if hooked up wrong as well. Another thing since it is a hot tub meaning like wet area like bathrooms and out side special considerations are going to have to be taken for safety namely you are going to have to use a GFCI circuit breaker or have a GFCI double pole switch to disconnect the tub incase of a short circuit or excessive current leakage to ground otherwise you end up bolied lobsters. Well done and ready to eat by the time you are found. Not as easy as just hooking up three wires is it. And if you do not know exaclty what you are doing call an electrician.
Q: I am connecting a humidstat to furnace. I would normally use furnace/thermostat wire for this purpose except that I need 8 conductors and the largest furnace/thermostat wire seems to be 5 conductors. I would like to use another 18guage 8 conductor wire but not sure if there are any specifications I need to ensure it meets before I can use it inside furnace cabinet.
Standard 18 gauge wire is all you need, they do make it in 8 and 10 conductor, it just takes a little calling around to supply houses to find it. There's is nothing special about the wire specs for thermostat wire as it relates to your furnace so long as you use 18 gauge standed or solid wire. The only exception for thermostat wire is when you get into commercial buildings with an open plenum return air system, any wire used in the plenum cavity must be plenum-rated, which is almost always much more expensive.
Q: I have a Hunter 5 minute fan. I have four wires coming from my ceiling. Red, Black, White, and Bare Copper. The Fan has a Green Wire, Black Wire, White WIre,and a Black/White striped Wire. The Ceiling Plate also has green wire. I know to connect the black to black, red to black/white striped, white to white. But for the green and copper wires, do I connect the copper wire from the ceiling to the green wire in the ceiling plate and also to the green wire from the fan?
Black (hot) to Black White (return) to White Bare (ground) to Green [Green wire can also be connected to metal box with Wire-Nut] Red (light) to Black/White wire (switch)[ in some cases Blue wire]. Page 8 Installation Manual (4-Wirine the Fan) All wiring must be in accordance with national and local electrical codes and ANSI/NFPA 70. If you are unfamiliar with wiring, use a qualified electrician. Wall switches are not included. Select an acceptable general-use switch in accordance with national and local electrical codes. 4-1. Before attempting installation, make sure the power is still off. 4-2. To connect the wires, hold the bare metal leads together and place a wire nut over them, then twist clockwise until tight. For all these connections use the wire connectors provided. 4-3. Connect the bare or green ground wire (grounded) from the ceiling to the green ground wire (grounded) from the ceiling plate and the green ground wire from the fan. 4-4. Connect the white wire (ungrounded) from the ceiling to the white wire (ungrounded) from the fan. 4-5. Connect the remaining wires as follows: Dual Switch Wiring: ? The black wire (ungrounded) from the ceiling to the black wire (ungrounded) from the fan ? The black/white wire (ungrounded) from the fan to the wire (ungrounded) for the wall switch Single Switch Wiring: ? The black wire (ungrounded) from the ceiling to the black (ungrounded) and the black/white wire (ungrounded) from the fan CAUTION: Be sure no bare wire or wire strands are visible after making connections. 4-6. Turn the wire connectors upward and push them carefully back through the ceiling plate into the outlet box. 4-7. Spread the wires apart, with the grounded wires on one side of the outlet box and the ungrounded wires on the other side of the outlet box
Q: hey could anyone tell me from the stock am radio in my nissan 720 what wires are the constant (memory) power and the accessory (ignition) wire so i can attach these to my new radio
there is no reason to cut any wiring to install any aftermarket head unit.go to wall mart to the car audio area and give them the yr make and model of your ride and they will sell you the right plug in for your type car.this wires to your new head units wiring harness and plugs into the plugs you took your factory radio out of.they call it plug and play and it comes with a wiring diagram for your type car so follow it. its color coded. if you did cut off the plugs your best bet is to put them back.this part is about 9 dollars.
Q: Which internet is faster and quality?
Wired Internet, but i recommend wireless to laptops.
Q: I have a kicker cvr 12 inch 2 ohm dual voice coil sub (400 watts) and a kicker zx750 amp. how to wire?
wire it in series so you get a 4ohm load. not unless you could still return the sub and get the cvr with dual 4ohm voicecoils. then you can wire that in parallel to 2ohms and get the most out of your amp.
