Q: A thin wire connected to a light bulb will have the bulb shine dimmer than a thicker wire. What is the scientific reasoning for this?
Thin wires are usually used to make heat because there is more resistance going through a thin wire. In an incandesent bulb 60% OF THE OUTPUT IS HEAT. If thee is thicker wire, more electrons go through and the light can be brighter.
Q: I have a water valve that I need to connect but I don't know how to read this diagram. I'm unsure how to connect the wires to the cold and hot valve. I have four wires that need to be connected. A pair of white caps with one blue wire and one orange; and a pair of black caps with one blue wire and one yellow wire. Sorry if this sounds confusing but I have no idea how to explain it well. Thanks!
In the diagram, there are two cold valves: valve 1 has a yellow wire to it; valve 2 has a blue and a yellow wires to it...............you may have to contact the washer manufacturer or the company that makes the valve for better installation instructions ( it's possible that all of the wires are not used in both valves )
Q: i know nothing about wire. thanks. :|
Solder wire has a lower melting point, allowing you to melt it onto something else. In it's wire form, it will also snap very easily. (not good for fastening things together). Mechanical wire (I'm assuming electrical wire), is designed to withstand high temperatures (and hence, electrical currents), and are usually be bent much more. It's also usually sheilded in rubber (e.g. electrical cords, computer cables, coxial (tv) cable, etc).
Q: Can anyone tell me how to connect a older model ceiling fan in a new house... the fan itself has one white, one black , one red, one bare wire and a green wire. The wiring in the ceiling has one white, one black, one green and one copper wire. Thanks!
dt has it correct, but I think your one silver colored bare wire off the fan is a Support cable (Steel air craft cable) this should be attached to the back of your mounting box IF it is a fan rated box.
Q: Just got a 540 wat sound system but the speaker wires are only 5 feet, so I want to add about another 10 or 15 feet.
The tape won't make a good sufficient - stable connection. A unfastened connection gets very heat. #4 can carry quite some amperage. acquire some copper - chop up bolt - kearney connectors, which would be put in with 2 wrenches, it could have a divider interior the middle so each cord would be clamped in my view, (might desire to be tight) and wrap a minimum of three wraps of a good grade of electric powered tape - a brilliant ironmongery shop can help you.
Q: I was looking at the wiring of my current thermostat and I want to know why it's wired the way it is...The yellow wire was wrapped around the white terminal and the yellow terminal. And the white wire was wrapped the around the Orange terminal. The red and green wires were each wrapped around their respective terminals. And the blue wire wasn't connected to anything. Why would the electrician have wrapped the yellow wire around 2 terminals? Is that normal? Also, I tried installing a new thermostat but the heating is not working. The fan works but it just blows room temperature air. The new thermostat only had 4 terminals for R, Y, W, G. I connected the wires I had to their respective terminals. However, I think it may not be working because I have a probably have a heat pump. Any Ideas why else it might not be working? Thanks a lot!
If you have a heat pump, then the thermostat that you currently have will not work. Otherwise, green wire to G, (fan circuit) white wire to W (heat circuit) Yellow or Blue to Y (cooling circuit) but don't hook up both. Just one or the other. Finally, Red to RC/RH (24V circuit). Make sure on your furnace control board that it is wired the same as your T-stat. Good luck.
Q: i am hooking up a wiring harness on a 2000 ford ranger and cant figure out the wires to hook up and what they are
What kind of connector? How many wires? There are several different types of trailer plus out there. The most common is the four wire flat connector. The wiring for those is: yellow = left turn/brake green = right turn/brake brown = taillights white = ground Easy way to remember that is that green and right both have an R in it, as in Right turn. Yellow and left both have an L in it as in Left turn. There are also 6 wire round connectors and 7 wire round connectors. Totally different wiring for those.
Q: So I know that the neutral wire is the 'return wire'. But why does my textbook say that it has the potential to have the same amount of electricity as the live wire (if the wiring is faulty)? But essentially, if the wiring is not faulty it is technically safe to touch it, it has 0 volts.Could someone explain this to me?
In the absence of faults, the neutral should be safe. It is normally connected to ground at the supply entry board or at the substation/transformer. In the event that a neutral wire becomes disconnected between an appliance and the supply entry board, it will be at the same potential as the live wire.
Q: don't say red because there is no red wire in the 3 wire radio assembly that came stock. there is a yellow wire, black with stripe, and gray with stripe
There is no Accessory wire, but only one yellow switched power wire hot in run. I usually steal accessory power in an F-body from the cigar lighter harness. One of the other wires, I forget which, is hot with the dash lights. Isolate it.
Q: But when I look closely (you can't see it in the picture unfortunately) there are some tiny wisps of the coiled copper wire that looks as if it could have been connected to the pulled wire. I'm not sure. How do I connect the wires to make the headsets work again? If you guys need more pictures, please tell me.Thanks in advance!
don't be afraid to cut the wires, those wires are no good, strip out a fresh strand of wire, just make sure you remember the color coding of the contacts before you cut the wires, be warned though, working with earphone wires can be tricky, the solder is very hard to bind on the tips of the wires and the fibers are a pain, if you know how to solder then that's fine, but if you don't ask help from someone who can
