- Q: Which is live and which is not, there is a black wire and a blue wire?
- That's it? A black wire and a blue wire? Hmm...I'd say that they are both hot if you have 240V single phase power. If it's multiphasic, they could be either delta to delta or delta to center tap. Didn't it come with a cord to plug it in? You are also overlooking a bonding screw used for grounding. Look for it, hook it up too. Tell us what the back plate says. (voltage, phases, watts, etc.)
- Q: What is the best brand of wire to use for getting power to my amp?
- Need info on the amp to make that call. ONe thing is for sure monster cable is a huge rip off and 10 gauge wire is not thick enough for an amp power cable. For around 800 watts or less 8 gauge will be good enough. The thicker the wire the better the performance. Almost all wire is essentially the same, its the gauge that is important. (0 is thickest, 10 thinner, 20 even thinner etc.) Good Luck
- Q: I have 16 gauge speaker wire, but i need a lower gauge. instead of spending money and buying a lower gauge can i double this wire up and have that make it a lower gauge? so i would have 2 negative and 2 positive wires going into the terminal.
- Doubling the wire will not make it 8 gauge. If you're running this wire from the head unit to the speakers, or from an amp to the speakers, 16g will be sufficient. If the wire is from an amp to a sub, a larger wire would be a good idea, but not a requirement. If you're trying to use this wire for the power and ground connections on the amp, you should purchase the proper wiring kit for amp installation.
- Q: Well I have a mono D and it has - - + + on it and I want to to wire my dvc 4ohm sub to 2 ohms but I'm not sure what terminals I hook the speaker wire up to?
- wire okorder /... and than wire it to any of the negatives on the amp its all one channel internally so it really doesn't matter which negative u use. than wire the positive to any positive on the amp.
- Q: why is neutral wire.explain plz
- you need the neutral to complete the circuit
- Q: is it safe to use twist on wire connector to connect my new stereo or should i crimp instead?
- Professional installers never use twist-on wire nuts for car audio wiring. They're fine for connecting solid wires in home wiring, but they're not made for connecting multi-strand wires in an environment with as much vibration as a vehicle. Eventually they'll fall off and you'll have a short circuit. You can use crimp-on barrel connectors, crimp bell caps, or solder your connections and cover them with shrink tubing or high-quality electrical tape. (Never use cheap electrical tape to insulate a connection--it will turn brittle and fall off over time). I like to use crimp caps.
- Q: Me and a buddy took the 305 out of the car. I have a 350 to take its place, but was wondering what are the only wires i need to have a clean engine bay. the old engine has a million wires hooking up to everything. Some muscle cars only have spark plug wires, the starter wire and battery cable. What must i do to get mine like that? i dont care about emissions. what must i change or add to the new engine?
- I have an '84 Monte SS and wanted the same thing. Here's what I have: the 2 wires that come from the harness and go to the starter (1 Positive, 1 S terminal), oil gauge wire, temp gauge wire, the alternator wires, the wire going to the distributor cap, and the tach gauge wire going to the distributor cap. That's pretty much it, as well as your battery cables, and spark plug wires. You really don't need to do or add anything as long as it runs and everything works that needs to work, it'll be fine. I'm going by memory, so if I forgot something I apologize, but that's the best of my recollection right now. If you have anymore questions you can email me.
- Q: Replaced the old fan in my bathroom (about 10 years old) with a new fan. Trouble is this. The fan and light each work on a seperate bathroom switch. I have two spots to install the wire on the new bathroom fan/light. One for the fan and one for the ligth. However, the wiring has one white, one black, one red and the ground. Anyone know what the red is? Can I just cap it off? According the bathroom fan wiring it says something about connecting red to blue. I am slighty confused. I think it was originally only wired between the white and black. I am not sure if I have to get some extra wire and connect the black and red to the light and the white to the fan? Extra wire is confusing.
- The wiring for the original installation had the white wire for a common neutral, and one of the red or black wires for the fan and the other for the light. If your new fixture does not have both a fan and a light, simply use either the red or black, and put a wirenut on the unused wire; you will then have one wall switch that does nothing. If it DOES have both, then one non-white wire goes to the fan, the other to the light, and the white wire goes to both.
- Q: Question about the 3.5mm cable, I cut it open and there are 4 individual wires inside of it. I've only ever seen 2 wires and a loose one. Which ones are right/left and would the other 2 both be ground? The colors are red/green/white/black. I'm assuming the red/white are right left like normal? But I'm not too sure.
- General audio wire color standards: White/Black are ground. Red is Right+ and Green is left+. There are separate wires needed for headphones, and often the ground wire breaks causing the wire to otherwise completely fail. Mono is left only (the tip) + Ground. The wire can usually be replaced with standard 4 wire phone (16-18 Ga) cable, when used for headphone (low power) applications.
- Q: Ok, bought this mower at an estate auction for next to nothing. It looks like its never been used. Previous owner ripped out all the wires to the ignition switch so it wouldn't sell I guess. It's the craftsman lt 1500. Model number 247.288812. It has the 17.5hp bs motor in it. Does anyone know the correct way the wires go to the switch? There are 3 red wires so its a bit unlike what im used to. Thanks in advance!
- On my sears mower with an electric clutch the switch is wired like this. G terminal is a black wire to ground. B terminal is a red wire to the ammeter. S terminal is a white wire to a safety switch. M terminal has two black wires one to the ignition coil and the other to a safety switch. L teminal is a red wire to the alternator and a red wire to the PTO switch.
