- Your best bet would be to tell your property manager and use there contacts to get the best deal. Most carpet stores compete for this business and get the contract for little margin but high volume. Therefore you will replace the carpet with same color style etc....Most of the time the winning contract will be between 11 and 12 dollars a yard installed. So your looking around $1200 dollars.

- The tile floor would be ruined, and the value of the house lessened, but it can be done. A better idea, if the tile is nice is to buy large area rugs which have no slip padding on the back. It will be easier to keep the room clean also, around the walls, etc. Wall to wall carpeting really picks up a lot of awful stuff, look how much dirt you sweep up each day? A tile floor is healthier than wall to wall. Get some better shoes for indoors, although I have marble and tile and love the feel on my feet, which no longer hurt as they used to.? - I think that an area rug on top of carpet looks nice. In my living room, I have an area rug on top of my carpet and it looks good. If you have sheer green drapes, I think you should get a muted brown rug.

- Cleaning carpets are always an issue when a baby is involved. However, all of us are exposed to indoor air quality issues and it should be addressed properly. First, daily vacuuming is really sufficient in keeping your carpets clean for the baby. However, if you use an extractor on a carpet with only water, you'll find your carpets getting dull and grey. The reason is because your carpets act as a filter thus leaving alot of calcium and hard water deposits in your carpets. Chemicals aren't the issue when cleaning carpets. Most carpet cleaning products are diluted between 8-16 oz/gallon of water. Some may be less, so actually your using very little chemical. The key is to make sure that the carpets are thoroughly rinsed and dried. When carpets are wet, thats when your indoor air quality starts to suffer. You get mold, mildew and bacteria. Good luck!

- Do yourself a big favor and hire someone to do it. If it's not done properly it'll loosen up and look bad. I am a carpenter by trade and tried to lay carpet once, using all the proper tools that are mentioned in a preceding answer. After a couple of years it needs restretching.
