- Q: how do you get red stains off the carpet?
- Depending on how big your house is, it can take about half a day to steam clean wall to wall carpeting. Most companies will be able to work around furniture, but obviously it's better if you can move as much furniture as possible so that the cleaners can clean as much carpet as possible. You'll want to open up your windows after the carpet cleaning has been done to air out your rooms (and with this heat, to quicken up the drying time). If you are talking about cleaning hand made rugs, then cleaning is done off site and you generally have to wait 2-3 weeks for the professional cleaners to return your carpet.
- Q: My pets have ruined my carpet. I need to rip it up and replace it, but that is way to expensive right now. I am just looking for a product I can buy at a drugstore, spray on the carpet, and vacuume off. Thank you!!
- Sprinkle a couple of boxes of bicarb soda all over the carpets, paying particular attention to heavily stained areas. Leave for as long as you can then vacuum. After that get your carpets professionally cleaned or hire a steamer and do it yourself. Then, before you vacuum do the bicarb soda bit again every time. Voila! Clean smelling carpets!
- Q: How to deal with the color of rose petals on the carpet?
- You can only clean it by several times. There is no possibility to remove it one time by diluted oxalic acid. You must be careful that each time to clean it with a large amount of water, and the stain will be lighter after a time's cleaning, with a absorbent cloth to absorb water , repeat several times. One-time removal is impossible, you should ensure that the dilution will not make the carpet colors fall off
- Q: I wash my bathroom rugs 3 times a week, but then I also buy new ones about every 3 months. Am I washing mine too often? It seems to me I should wash them more often. What about the kitchen? I wash mine 2times a week.Am I weird, or dirty?
- only a couple times a year, and NO your not dirty, although I probably am a little and I'm sure you think so too, lol but I do think this rug washing behavior is a little over the top I say about once a month is good which is somewhere in between us although, if this makes you happy, go and wash your heart out!
- Q: I had the rug from work about a year ago so its pretty old but every time i go to hoover its got a large amount of white powder under it! i have no idea what it is at first i had the gross idea that it was bits of skin but there is no way that much could accumilate in such a short timewhat is it and can i get rid of it
- There are pretty much three things it could be.... 1 - Powder - There are several cleaning products that are on the market today that people sprinkle on the rug so that it smells good - every time you vacuum more will come out till it is all gone. 2 - Dust - If it is an old rug then there is a good chance that it is simply dust. 3 - Fibers - If the rug is not in good condition then sometimes the fibers break apart and fall out when you vacuum but this is most common with old silk rugs. If you think it is one of the top two then simply turn over the rug and slowly vacuum the from the back (make sure to use a vacuum with bristles). The vibrations will cause whatever is in the rug to fall out. After you are done - turn the rug over and vaccume the front side, collect the dust from the floor and repeat the process till almost all the white powder is gone. Hope I was helpful :)
- Q: Because I live in aus and the temperatures range from *lowest 6-10C winter* and highest around 36C in summer, with no dramatic weather usually, would a horse the is kept out in a paddock all its life **pleasure horse** need such rugs like winter and summer etc? (if it was clipped or didn't have a nice big fluffy coat))thanks.
- Hi there, It all depends on what you are doing with the horse and where it is being kept. If you are going to show the horse then yes you will need to rug it. If you clip it it will need a rug. If it is very thin then again rugs have their place. Having said that mine are just for pleasure and I don't rug. It takes alot of hassle out of looking after them. I don't have to worry if it is too hot or cold, did or didn't I take the rug off and then the weather changed? We get everything from snow through to 40 deg. Most horses are smart enough to get out of the rain or heat by moving into shelter. My horses are out in a paddock and do just fine. I have to tell you that my Whaler X mare is not too fond of the snow. She look at it as a personal insult, having spent most of her life in the Northern Territory. Were as my daughters pony just turns into a mamoth look a like during the winter. The other up side of not rugging is that rugs rip and need repair, this can add up. I rugged my mare the first winter she was down here, thought I was doing the right thing. By the end of winter I had two rugs that where more patches than original rugs, they had been brand new. So I gave up trying to rug her. We are both more happy about it all now. Hope that helps.
- Q: How can you keep an area rug from bunching up/wrinkling over a carpeted floor?By the way, the rug is fairly new.
- Never a double sided tape, it will leave a residue and attract dirt. The use of a pad as some say is the right way to go. Its actually a very thin mat that goes under the rug. It has a tacky feeling but leaves no residue. There are a couple different types for your rugs. Some are made for rugs over hard wood ( allows the wood to breathe ). Some for rug over carpet and some for rugs over a hard surface. These don t react with a vinyl and stain the vinyl. After a few months, depending on your foot traffic, they lose there tackiness because they naturally collect dirt. They are washable and return to their natural state and work again. Some will suggest the mats you use for cupboards, these will work and also can ruin vinyl or a hard wood. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar..GL
- Q: I have carpeting in a room where I would like to install built-in bookshelves. How should I secure them to the floor? Do I need to remove the carpeting or can I set them on top?
- If the built-ins are going to be permanent, remove the carpeting in that area. If you want to un-install them when you move, leave the carpet and securely attach the shelves to the wall behind.
- Q: I have a 6 x 9 jute rug under our dining table that has become very dingey and spotty. Any suggestions on the easiest method to clean?
- The best, safe and natural way to clean jute rugs are to sprinkle baking soda on it. Let it sit for 10 minutes. And then vacuum religiously. For tough stains, spray hydrogen peroxide on the stains. Let it sit for 5 minutes and rub the stain with paper towel or a brush. Your precious jute rug will look and smell all new.
- Q: I am about to buy a house but want to install new carpet just wonderin on average how much it costs
- Carpet / pad and labor will start out at 2$ a s/f and go up from there depending on the quality of the pad and carpet. At this price it will get you just a low quality carpet w/o warranties and a cheap pad. Check padding out , get a minimum of 5 1/2 # . This will cover your carpet warranties. When you get to the 3$ a s/f then you ll be getting into the carpets with a 5 and 7 years warranties. And these are more of themid range carpets. Watch the warranties, some will offer only stain blockers.Get the anti mat, anti crush protection. Wear warranties are different than the anti mat , anti crush, so watch that. GL
