- Q: Can I use a fabric dye (RIT), and just paint it on the 3quot; wide border? Want to change from present light blue to dark brown.jackie
- I have worked with Rit dyes quite frequently and although they are good dies for natural fibers, I am not sure painting a boarder will net the results you desire. First of all, the dye has to be mixed with salt. Because you will not be able to rinse and spin the dye out of he rug, that salt will just remain in your rug when the dye has dried. This may leave salt crystals in your rug along with making it quite stiff. And,because the dye is wet, it will certainly bleed outside of the boarders of the rug. Another problem is the dye bleeding onto the floor causing permanent damage. Even if you can jump over these obstacles, the dye will remain in the rug, full strength because it can not be rinsed and spun out, so it can easily transfer the color from the rug to your shoes to other areas of the house. And, heaven forbid, if the rug gets wet at a later date it will reactivate the dye and boy I will hear you cursing from here. So, you see, using this type of dying process is really full of challenges and there is too much to go wrong so I do not think it is worth the risk. However, there may be other dyes I am unaware of. Do an internet search on dyes and also rug dying to get some helpful hints and possible products that will net you the results you are after. I have lots of resources that I will check on and edit my answer if I get more information.
- Q: I live in San Jose CA. I would pick the cheapest carpet and pading.
- Well that all depends on your square footage and how BIG each room is (sometimes with small rooms you can get two rooms out of one piece also if there are hallways and stairs you can save money that way by using the scraps (long edge pieces) for those areas... If you are lucky, you may be able to get decent carpet and pad for 10-15 per sq yard... of course that doesn't include installation. The best place to go is to a wholesaler (most all are open to the public) they usually have installers or at least can refer you to installers who will do the job for a reasonable price and sometimes even the wholesale places will arrange it as part of the price (costs a little more but worth it). We carpeted most of our house right before we moved in... was about 800-1000 square feet and it cost us 1300 *roughly* including everything...
- Q: I am in need of a carpet rake. I have friese carpeting. It is about an inch long and and very very thick. I have a lot of matting in the high traffic areas and I think a carpet rake would help. I looked online though and the ones I found all seem to have tines that are very close together. I don't think it would get down far enough to pull anything up. Has anyone had much experience with these rakes or know another trick to get the carpet to lift. My carpet is only a year old and the high traffic areas look like my mother in laws 20
- That long shag carpeting is making a comeback, isn't it! Years ago my aunt used a carpet rake that looked alot like the bamboo lawn rakes you can buy at any hardware or home supply store.
- Q: How to flat a carpet that is rolled?
- Use wet mop to wipe carpet surface, and flat the carpet.
- Q: I have an off white area rug, it's older so I'm not interested in professional dyeing practices or paying a lot to get it done but I'd like to dye it black....is there any easy way for me to do that.. uld I use fabric dye or no??
- How To Dye A Rug
- Q: My carpet is going to kill me. This is southern texas, and there is always dust everywhere. How can I thoroughly clean the carpet? I really can't afford a big machine, and I borrowed my moms cheap one, and it did nothing. If I buy carpet cleaner, can I just scrub it with my tub scrub brush or something?
- I need to clean a 13 x 13 room and was just looking up earlier answers for cleaning options. I'm going to try mixing a bit of Tide and OxiClean in a big bucket of warm water, scrubbing with a nylon-bristle scrub brush, and letting it dry thoroughly. I'm just going to try NOT to soak the carpet and NOT knock over the bucket.... Good luck!
- Q: I am currently in the process of switching apartments need some quick/cheap ways to remove old and hard as heck to remove stains from my carpet, so that the management won't make me pay for the stains!!!xtra info- the carpet is older , it's your basic cheap carpet and is beige/cream in color!!!Any ideas/solutions will be greatly appreciated, just remember I want the cheapest, most effective quickest ways to remove stains from older carpet!!!
- First cheapest way. Warm water and white vinegar 50/50 solution. You want to dilute the stain not drown the area 4 beyond the spot. This lifts dirt, grime stains. It will not harm the cheapo carpet. If this is a long time stain from furniture or ink, food, or who knows then you may want to try an Oxy or Resolvebased cleaning product. IMPORTANT. Test the cleaner in a patch of carpet in you closet if it has carpet to see if a big lightening/discoloring of the carpet occurs. The labeling on the can will tell you something like this. The biggest issue that move-er-outers face is spot clean if leaves clean carpet spots that highlight the dirty rest of the carpet. Carpet stains that fail to come out are also highlighted as well like really well! Red stains, furniture stain stains, and ink stain s are toughest to remove. - Q: does anyone know where i could find a fee schedule for RUG rates in California? I've been all over the internet and I can only find the rates for other states. I need to find out what the rates are for my job and I have tried calling Medicare Part A w/o any help. They don't know what I'm talking about, oddly enough! Please help!!!
- What okorder / ... (However, you really shouldn't have to pay to get your own RUG rates - the data should be available to you somewhere at no charge. Try the SNF PPS pricer first!)
- Q: My parents bought a 5 x 7 area rug about 20 years ago, at K-Mart or somewhere abouts, and bequeathed it to me when I moved out. The colors are still really nice, but the problem is- and I suspect this has always been the case- its a bear to get clean. I don't mind a few spots, but it collects hair like mad. Its a very tight-woven rug, with no long strands. I run my Dirt Devil upright over it usually three or four times, and nothing budges. Is there a vacuum cleaner that is powerful enough to disentange hair from the carpet fibers? I really don't want to throw it out or store it, but I can't afford to have it professionally cleaned, at $100 a go, every month.
- You can rent a cleaner for a day and clean it yourself. Dirt devil vacuums aren't that great for rugs I'm afraid.
- Q: what rug would look good with this? Not too expensive please!
