- I was in the same position a few months ago! Some people told me to use double-sided tape but that only worked on hard floors.. and that wasn't even every good. I ended up getting Ruggies or Ruggie Rug Grippers - they have worked great for me to secure mats on both hard floors and even on carpets. They're also reusable- if you just rinse it off, they will easily restick to a new rug.

- The pee probably got into the padding underneath the carpet. When it gets hot, the pee seeps up through the carpeting and starts to smell. The smell will NOT go away until you get the pee out of the padding. Depending on how wet the carpet was, you probably got some of the pee out, but perhaps not all. I would rent a steam carpet cleaner (available at most larger grocery stores and discount stores like WalMart for about $25 per day) and buy a treatment (carpet cleaning soap) especially made for urine or pet odors. There are lots of them available where ever carpet cleaning supplies are sold. Don't run a regular vacuum over a wet carpet. Put a fan on the carpet until it is pretty dry. Again, if the padding got wet, the carpet will act like a wick, sucking the water up from the padding into the carpet itself, so once the carpet seems dry, it may then suddenly appear wet again.
- Q: I just moved into a 1st floor/basement apartment. Its currently has tile floors wich are nice but are extremely cold to walk on in the winter. I was thinking about putting carpet down until I stumbled across carpet tiles in home depot. Since im renting I dont want to damage the current ceramic tile floor, should I lay down regular carpet or use carpet tiles? I don't care about grout lines and i dont want anything glued to the floor. It doesnt need to be the best job I will more then likely do it myself. If I lay regular carpet do I need padding? - Here okorder . Sizes from 5 foot to 7 foot (60 to 87 inches). You want 5'3 rug, or slightly smaller? 5'3 = 63 inches. So I would order a 62 or 63 inch rug. Note: I have only ever bought rugs in feet too, however this site uses inches. I would guess it depends on what country you are in :)

- Capet goes first, cuz if you ( or some body else ) instals baseboards fisrt and they are to close to the floor, then the carpet will not go under it as it should. Once the carpet is in place, then you come with the baseboard, pine, oak, plastic ( which is one of the newest materials for baseboard ) then sinply go on top of the carpet, not worring about the high, ( thickness of the carpet ) then finish it with a nice line of caulking. Even netter if you plan to paint the walls after, but if not, just make sure you clean nice the caulking whit a wet clean rag ti leave a nice finish. make sure the caulking it's NOT silicon, as silicon it's more dificult to clean, unless you know about it; then you know you can clean silicon with a damped rag in mineral spirits, but if you are not familiar with this, don't even try, specillay with you'r new carpet in place. At least this is the best way works for my, and I have had doing it many times.
