Q: I am remodeling a room and I'm not sure if I should put in the baseboard or the carpet first. Also, if the baseboard is first how much of a clearance does the carpet need to get tucked under?
Base board first, it is easier to paint and fill the finish nail holes, a good carpet installer can get it under the baseboard easily enough. about 1/2 inch We build custom homes and always do the baseboard first then paint/caulk /puddy then carpet. But baseboard always go on after tile installation in areas with tile.
Q: would it have dried out?my dad paid for it, and it was fairly pricey compared to the other rugs we normally get, so if it's ruined he's going to go off.. gt;.lt;also, i was wondering if you could rug a wet horse?like if the rug was dry, and the horse was wet from the rain, could you throw the rug on her?or would you have to dry her off first? thanks!
Most modern rugs are synthetic so don't get moldy easily but they can take a long time to dry and if they aren't hung up outside can get that smell your clothes get if you leave them in the washing machine over night. Depending how cold/damp your tack shed is and how thick the rug is it could still be wet. I'm lucky that I can rent a heater to dry my rug in a day (and I need it because I only have one turnout) If you must rug a wet horse use a wicking rug (cooler) or a string rug under a sheet or fleece. You will have to change the rug in 15-30 mins and if the horse was very wet or if they had sweated up again you may have to replace it with another cooler. You mustn't ever rug a wet horse and just leave them. If the horse is unclipped on a mild day or (partly-)clipped of a warm day you could turn them out unrugged while still a bit damp (but they should have been properly cooled down and no longer be sweating.) EDIT: wow zakiit thatching (putting straw under the rug) is really old-school - I thought string anti-sweat rugs were old fashion. As my niece and nephew would say your so dead - it means old-fashion apparently. I told them I wasn't old fashion I'm retro - you can be retro too :-)
Q: Ok so i had a sleep over with my friends last night and we tried to get hot souce into my friends mouth...it got every where but there...how do i get it out of the carpet b4 my parents see
Find a good carpet cleaner. ;) Depends on the color of the carpet, really. Find a mild cleaner -- or even laundry soap, if you aren't sure what cleaners to use -- and put a bit on the carpet. Get a toothbrush or something that can really get in the carpet and scrub as hard as you can. Rinse w/hot water, blow dry it and see how it looks. Oddly enough, I just finished scrubbing hot sauce out of a white area rug thanks to my kid. ha!
Q: Coke spilled on a like colored rug. I try rug cleaner. Both the spray and liquid. It is still pretty dark. Any Suggestions?
stop using chemicals.... they will most likely set the spot in(assuming that hasn't already happened). Carbon tetrachloride and peroxides are notorious for this. use a white rag that is damp with non-ammonia windex... rub in a circle and blot. if this doesn't work, leave it to a pro. extraction is key. you need to remove the soda, not add detergent.
Q: I have a plain, off-white area rug that I want to dress up a little. I got the idea from a home improvement show where they used paint for the same purpose, but I don't remember the details such as what kind of paint they used or how they were able to completely cover the area desired without having the paint bleed into the rest of the rug. Anyone done this before? Tips?
On HGTV I heard you can paint a rug with Latex paint. You can always go to your home improvement store and ask them, even call them. It was Design Remix, the show that I saw them do it, and it was Latex paint that they used and they said you can paint any rug with it. I would write down what the rug's made out of and call the company of the paint and ask them if you can use it on a rug before doing it. You don't want to use it and have it ruined. I'm thinking as long as it's not a carpet kind of rug, you should be fine. I hope this helps!
Q: It doesn't have the plastic quot;stickinessquot; underneath the rug.And if I put that rug securing platic that you buy at convenience stores, won't it get mildewy?
i would get the plasic rubbery stuff that secures the mats. no, it wont get mildewy:)
Q: I just recently moved into an apartment that is all carpet. Wanted to know if there is any sort of temporary hardwood (or anything similar) floors, I can install over the carpet, since I am renting and cant rip out the carpets
yes. Go to Home Depot or Lowes.
Q: What is the difference between floor mats and carpets?
Water absorption and dust removal. And the carpet is mainly for comfort: Sand scraping, decoration; classify according to the function, elevator mats, etc.: The outdoor location pad, well pad, sound insulation pad. classify according to usage: indoor mats, anti-skid function, art and aesthetic effect
Q: I know they make oxy cleaner for almost everything these days and they make oxy carpet cleaner but i was wondering seeing the powder oxy is cheaper then the the already made carpet cleaner can i use the tub of oxy (if i mix it with water) on the stains on my carpets just like you would use in your laundry will it do the samething or should i just buy the cleaner itself?
As a carpet cleaning pro, I've seen hundreds of damaged carpets, mostly Nylon or Polyester, where a laundry product permanently damage the carpet dyes. When inquiring as to what caused the damage, the number one culprit was Oxy Clean Laundry Detergent. About 6 years ago, I came across a couple who used this product to fine tune the spills and stains in their carpet, severly damaging the Nylon carpet in numerous areas. They did receive a settlement from the Oxy company at that time to help replace their carpet. Their ads made it sound like they had a miracle product available. If you have Olefin carpeting, a laundry detergent may not hurt these fibers, but why take a chance. Never use bleach on any spill or stain on furniture or carpeting. I've seen thousands of damaged carpets cause by the mis - use of this laundry product.
Q: Okay, so i spilled sweet and sour sauce all over my living room carpet today. I grabbed a bottle of Zout and started spraying it all over the spot, grabbed some paper towel, rubbed the carpet and dabbed the liquid up. then i sprayed febreze and vaccuumed it. YET THERE IS A REALLY NOTICABLE WHITE SPOT!!! almost like i overcleaned the carpet. the carpet around it is quite dirty, and now there is that one clean spot! what did i do wrong? will this go away? also is it going to smell bad? how do i prevent it from smelling bad?
Pour water over the stain before it dries. Have some heavy duty absorbent towels on hand step on them with shoes. This will dilute the stain and make it come to the surface. I have 3 boys, and they are always getting stains on my carpeting. This almost always works. If this doesn't work, you will need to try Tech Stain Remover, this is sold in grocery and hardware stores and is the best stain remove that I have tried so far. You put it on the stain for 3 minutes and blot it out with a wet cloth. Removes stains 99% of the time. Good Luck! I hope this helps you.
