Depending on the materials and such the carpet and padding can be treated with all kinds of chemicals to water or stain proof it or fire retardants and such. The material that the carpet is made out of can cause problems. Synthetic fibers in the carpet and the foam in the carpet padding can be the source of the problem. For my daughter it was dust mites and the foam padding. If stored in a moist warehouse the carpet could also have mold spores but just enough for the allergy stricken.
