Q: I live in the UK and I am going on holiday to Taiwan/Japan where the voltage is 110/100v as opposed to 220 here (i think).I was wondering if I could use a power extension cable (with multiple sockets) so that i would only need one adaptor to connect the extension to the mains and then I could just simply plug my 3 pin plugs into the cable saving me money and sockets. As it would be a lower voltage, I assume that there shouldn't be any problems with power however, if there are any electricians or anyone who has done this before I would really appreciate some guidance just to ensure that this is safe. Thanks is advance.
You'd use the correct AC power cord that replaces the toggle-head part, and that would be the best part. These can be bought with a variety of different ends on them; while the adapter itself will work with any of the supported voltage ranges, automatically.
Q: When wiring a power cable to your car battery, should you always put a fuse close to the battery or does it matter if you don't use one?
You should always put a fuse close to the battery. Here's why: The job of the fuse is to protect the wire between the battery and the amplifier. If that wire should happen to touch a metal component in the vehicle (pinched under a seat bracket, for example, or worn through against a sharp edge of metal in the firewall) then it would cause a short circuit. If you have a fuse near the battery, then it just blows the fuse and stops the current flow. If you don't have a fuse, current will flow until the wire overheats. When the wire is damaged, it will damage anything it's next to: vehicle wiring, carpet, seats, your amplifier. It's not hard to cause very extensive damage to your vehicle from a melting amplifier power wire. A fuse is a very inexpensive way to prevent very expensive damages in the event of a short circuit. To be effective, the fuse needs to be between the battery post and the spot where the wire is shorted. That's why you should place the fuse as close to the battery as possible. I personally would never, under any circumstances, connect a wire to a vehicle battery without the appropriate size fuse or circuit breaker.
Q: i have a cable modem that i lost the power cord to. i found another that fits but the output listed on the adapter is 12.5vdc. the modem lists +12vdc. can I use them together? i plugged it in and it lit up for a while but then went out but I don't really know how the modem is supposed to work if there's no internet connected to it.
first! are you sure the modem needs 12 V DC and not 12 V AC? Mine uses AC. OK, you can use a 12.5V in a 12V modem - the extra .5V is not a problem... Next, make sure the polarity is correct!! center pin is the correct polarity? If not, POOF! You will let the smoke out. Have you considered that the modem is bad and the power supply is not the problem here. If the modem is bad, you may have killed the supply you plugged in.
Q: i dont even know what phantom power is. i bought a behringer c-1 mic and ii think i need phantom power.is it a cable. i just wanna connect it to my laptop via usb or audio input jack...plz helpthnanks
confident, you could. I certainly have a Beyer MCE-80 one that demands phantom capacity and it takes an XLR cable. As for why this is talked approximately as phantom capacity, the term refers to a capacity source exterior to the microphone, frequently the two interior the form of a phantom capacity module or a capacity source outfitted into each and every channel of a mixing console. some mikes, by contrast, require a battery for their capacity source--I used to have a Sony mike that took a C battery.
Q: And my other drive has the only analog audio cable on my motherboard hooked up to it, and i know i need to plug in one more cable, because windows wont start up the way i set it up and idk what needs to go into which port.
You will not have set up the master and slave on the drives properly if they are both on the same cable. You need to take out the second drive and using the little jumpers set it to be a slave, then replace it and try again.
Q: And twisted pair cable parallel to the laying of the same route with 10kVA 380V power cable, the minimum spacing between the two cables should be how much? Knowledge related to integrated wiring. The The The The
PLC and computer communication cable, different manufacturers of PLC connection is not the same
Q: My power cord for my computer and all usb cables i have seen have these cylindrical things on them. What do they do?
Those are called ferrites. You can learn more about them from a company called Fair-rite (I put their link down below). A ferrite is really nothing more than a magnet, but one specially tuned depending on the frequency of signal running down the cable, or the current if the cable is a power cable. Electro magnetic interference (EMI) is all around us, especially with all the electronic devices we have running in the modern home. EMI flies through the air and, when it contacts something metalic, it runs along that metalic line. In the case of a cable, imagine the clean signal picking up fuzz as it runs down the line. That's pretty much what happens. A ferrite stops the fuzz from getting through to the end of the cable, thus making the signal much cleaner when the end device gets to it. On a power cord, the ferrite helps prevent too much EMI from leaking out at the end and interfering with the device that the power is for. I should mention that a ferrite is always optional on a line, in other words the cable will work without one. However, ferrites aren't expensive and they do help with the signal, so most companies will just add one on to the product just in case.
Q: I originally tried to plug my US Xbox power cable through a converter, but it overloaded the cable and broke. Microsoft's advice to me was buy a Belgian Xbox, but they never answered my question about the compatability of a US Xbox 360 and a European Xbox 360 power cable.I appreciate any help I may get on this question.
Euro is 220v to 250v or thereabouts, U.S. is only 110v. That's why your old PSU blew up. You needed to buy a step down voltage converter for avout 15 Euros or so. The Xbox PSU itself will handle the mains for whichever country it was designed for and convert the power to a DC voltage of 12v for any Xbox 360.
Q: I have Windows Vista on my Asus W2P laptop and I have had this weird problem for a while - every time I plug the power cable in when the computer is actually on, Media Centre automatically starts. It's not really an issue, except that it's a bit annoying and weird!! Has anyone else had/heard of an issue lke this?
Yes, mine does it too, and sometimes my screen doesnt fit the display, Its no big deal but almost immpossible to fix, Whatever you do dont try to hook up any non-vista compatable hardware , it'll just go south from there.
Q: when the power cable comes out, the laptop turns off simple as that! it wont work unless the power cable is plugged in and turned on, and its not that the battery is flat because i had it charging all day.so does this mean the battery is broken?if so what do i need to do?? any help will be greatly appreciated!!
Recharge the battery without using the computer at the same time. If this doesn't work you need a new battery and, obviously, someone to do the technical work. Try the geek squad at CircuitCity. It may cost you a little bit but they should be able to fix it or tell you if there is anything else that can be done.
