Q:I am having someone put in carpet tiles in a house and we have the carpet pad to go underneith. Does it go, Carpet pad, glue, and then carpet tiles? What should I tell them?
I've never heard of any one putting carpet pad down before applying carpet tiles. I have seen them install regular carpet they always glue the pad down place the carpet on top of that. If you don't get a better answer to your question I would call Home Depot ask them. I did find the instructions below for installing carpet tiles but no mention of carpet pad. DIRECT STICK CARPET TILES The carpet tiles are adhered to the sub floor using Roberts 656 Carpet Tile Double Bond Underlay Adhesive. The sub floor should first be primed with Roberts 370 Floor Wall Primer prior to the application of the carpet tile adhesive. If the carpet tile is laid into a wet film of adhesive it forms an almost permanent bond between the carpet tile and sub floor. The carpet tiles may also be laid into the adhesive when it has dried to a clear tacky film allowing them to be more easily removed if repairs or replacement is required.
Q:I was just wondering instead of buying a brand new rug I may just get the one he has now repaired. However like I said in the other question the neck slips down and as he is clipped it's not good...this is how it looks..
He is such a cutie! - i dont think a lycra hood would stop the rug slipping like that. but it would provide some protection for his neck and stop the other rug rubbing away any fur in the places it doesnt fit properly. - if you are going to get it repaired, you could also get it altered so that it is smaller. or if you can, you could just put more holes in it so that it will fasten tighter if you know what i mean. you can do that with a hot piece of metal like a screwdriver. the eat will also seal the hole so that the edges dont fray. - if you get a new rug you will probably have the same issue with the neck part not fitting right because the body part looks fine. - also, you could just get a lycra hood and fold the current hood part back so it is out of the way
Q:Im trying to find ways to make money for a low cost. I live in and area where there is around 5 other carpet cleaning businesses. Basically I need to pay for gas, car insurance+phone =$70 and I don't know how much being licensed and insured for the business would be. Basically if I get around 5-10 customers a month I'd be doing good. If you have had a carpet cleaning business or experience please let me know if its worth it. Thanks!
Well, I don't have a carpet cleaning business, but my dad has his own business, I manage the office at a business, and I am studying business. Carpet cleaning services is a competitive business. While you have competition, you must provide better quality work at cheaper/same costs. Licensing/insurance for the business may go off of the amount of profits you obtain. It may (equal) about another $70 a month (give or take a little). I think carpet cleaning would be a great business to get into! Most households/businesses have carpet that needs cleaned. You'll encounter customers that can't clean their carpets or just don't want to; thus, they'll hire someone to do it. I would take into account that you may encounter some nasty scenarios: i.e. flea-infested carpets, carpets with feces/urine, or other dirty circumstances. If they wouldn't bother you, go for it! Good luck!
Q:My carpet is threadbare and needs replacing. The kids are almost grown and pets live outside. Should I get a timber floor or go with carpet again. Which is easier to keep clean? I know that carpet is dirty but it also hides a lot. If you have a timber floor and then get rugs, aren't you getting the vaccuum out anyway? What do you think?
I prefer bare floors, but it's 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other.
Q:I haven't vacuumed my carpet in over 2 months and its really dirty. I know its disgusting but I hate this flat so much and I rarely come here, just to sleep. My room mate has a vacuum but its a standing up one and I hate those which is why I hate doing it plus my room is small and has a lot of stuff in it (huge walldrobe, dressing table, chest of drawers, bedside table, 2 person sofa, storage boxes, 2 chairs). Anyway we have mice and I put down sticky pad things and I found what I think is silverfish on it so I REALLY want to clean it properly now. Should I buy a carpet cleaner? I heard using vinegar but I'm not sure how. How would you go about cleaning it? should I just vacuum it continuously for like 10 minutes lol? And yes I know its gross but I'm really lazy.... don't judge me =/
Move everything out, vacuum the entire room of dust and debris, and buy some powdered carpet cleaner that you just sprinkle on the carpeting. When it dries, vacuum up all the residue, then move everything back in. Don't use vinegar. It will soak into the carpet and you'll have to wait hours and hours for it to dry before you can vacuum again, and then it will still smell like vinegar. If the carpet is still dirty after the treatment, you might want to rent a carpet machine from somewhere and use a water-based cleaner--but again, vacuum first, clean next and wait until it dries thoroughly, then re-vacuum.
Q:I want to make a bathroom rug/mat for around the toilet with a piece of carpet. how can I cut the carpet in that shape
You could use a box cutter. But the ends would eventually fray. You would need to research how to sew the ends so they don't fray apart, or you'll get carpet pieces all over your floor.
Q:What color of the carpet looks good with yellow sofa?
Red is better.
Q:I recently moved house and my real fix fur rug isn't large enough to cover the floor in my room, so my question if, if I go and kill some foxes tonight, how do I skin them and how do I attach the skins to the rug without making it obvious where i have sewn them on?Also, what shall I do with the remains, is fox edible?
Yes fox is edible... but save the brain. Tanning a hide is a skill that requires practice. I can tell you how but I suggest practicing on something you don't plan to have every guest at your house have a look at. Also some sewing skill would be needed to mend the two rugs together, and foxes aren't large animals so more than one will almost definitely be needed. To tan a hide: Skin the animal at the leg and stretch the skin out very taunt. You will need a tool for scraping ( something sharp but rounded enough not to tear the hide). While the hide is stretched, scrap of the epidermis of the skin with your tool (on the side without fur obviously). Its important to keep the hide wet during this process. Keep a bucket of water nearby to wet it down with. After the hide dries from anywhere from a day or a week (still stretched) untie it and cut it to the size you need it. Now rinse it in a mixture of a half - a whole gallon of water and the foxes own brains (yes, the brains). Rinse, wring it out, rinse again. Over and over and over until your tired. Next stretch the skin out some. Give it a tug with a partner to loosen it up. Then you have to smoke the skin with a dark smoke (most likely from old rotten wood). This will cause the white skin to tan (hence, tanning the hide). Tan the fir side as well but no where near as much as the inside of the skin. Once its a golden brown you can sew it onto your first rug. Whew lol. This is just the general jist of tanning a hide. There are many other methods that I don't know about. I learned how from Naked into the wilderness: Primitive Wilderness Living Survival Skills
Q:I tried using Prosolve Triple Action on my carpet after staining it with tea...IT DIDN'T WORK!!Any ideas!?
I am a professional carpet cleaner- This is what will work but you must be careful not to damage your carpet so try this in an area that is hidden first.... Mix ammonia and peroxide together and apply to the spot. Cover the spot with a white cloth and apply an iron over the white cloth. The trick is to heat the fiber causing the stain to change it's appearance. I recommend never using store purchased stain removers unless a professional has recommended it specifically.
Q:The rug is 6' x 8'
Tuck the effected corners under the rug and leave like this for a few days then put back straight
