- Q: I'm replacing the door speakers in a 2001 Coupe Camaro with the factory sound system. I needed to know which wire was positive and which was negative so I bought a circuit tester. However, I keep getting the reading that both wires are positive. What could be causing this? I know the circuit tester works because I tested it on the battery terminals and it worked fine.
- Speaker wire carries AC current. A circuit tester designed for DC voltage won't work, at least for telling you which is positive or negative. (It doesn't matter whether you use chassis ground, or the other speaker wire, as a reference). In the driver's door, the positive wire should be tan and the negative wire gray. In the passenger door, the positive wire is light green and the negative wire is dark green.
- Q: i have a black, red, and yellow wires in my trunk for a stereo system.i hear about this remote wire being blue (i have a sub/amp that needs a remote wire, ground, and battery) but i dont know which is which and where to put what.please help
- Well, you have 2 options. I used this first method when I installed subs in my cousins car because there was no remote turn on wire on his car. In this case you can run wire directly from the battery to a toggle switch that you can mount on your dash, then run the wire from the toggle to your amp. So the amp only turns on when you slip the switch.(Usually, even if there is a remote turn on I run that to a toggle and then to the amp, so then you can turn your amp on and off whenever you want not just when ever the radio is off or on. Your second option is to use a circuit tester to find a wire that has power when the radio is off has no power but it has power when the radio is on, then you can splice your remote turn on into that.

- Q: How does this work? Does the missile drag a wire?
- Exocet is not wire guided. even the wiki link of Leaky clearly states it is inertial guidance with terminal active radar homing. no one has produced the 70 kilometers of wire to command such a missile. yes it works this way. the typical ones are TOW and the Maljutka the missile itself has a roll of the wire and proceeds to the target. the operator either keeps the aim at the target and the missile is guided through a computer /semi automatic/ or the operator gives the commands manually through a joystick. Commands are passed through the wire to the controls of the missile which corrects the flight path relating to the commands. advantage is that this is impossible to jamm, disadvadvantage is the limited/restricted maneuver of the firing vehicle. General problm of these so called SACLOS missiles /semiautomatic, line of sight/ is that you have to see the target all the time the missile flies towards it. I.e. that the target may fire suppresive fire at your post.
- Q: I have two low voltage wires that run from one side of a building to another. The insulation on both wires is the same color. I eventually just walked an additional wire around the building and checked continuity. Is there an easier way to differentiate between the two wires?
- Assuming that the two wires are unconnected at both ends. If it was a long way to walk, I'd probably just have connected one wire to earth (or an earth bonded item like a radiator) at the far end and checked for continuity to earth at the local end. A slightly more esoteric way would be to connect a diode between the wires at the remote end. A d.c. continuity check between the two wires at the local end would allow you to deduce which wire was connected to the anode and which to the cathode. A battery between the wires at the far end and a d.c. voltmeter at the local end would do much the same job in that it would tell you which wire was connected to positive! .

- Do you mean the wire that connects the braces together? Because in that case if you need bands they will do both or if not it will just be the wire.
- Q: I have an old sewing machine without a plug that needs wiring up but it doesn't have the modern wire colours. There's one red wire and one yellow. Does anyone know how to do this?Thanks =]
- The red one is the earth wire so should go in the right part by the fuse and the yellow one is neutrol so goes in the top middle bit :) Hope that helps

- Unplug any wires that are plugged in. Fold a damp sponge around each wire, and wipe it down. Make sure it's dry before plugging it back in. No big deal.
- Q: Why do some vehicles have more than one starter wire at the ignition switch?
- The extra wire activates the fuel pump while cranking. The run position only lets the fuel pump run if it sees signals from the cam and/or crankshaft sensors.
