- Q: i want to knit or crochet a rectangular rug for my room not too big but not too small. ive looked on the internet but the ones i like are too hard and the rest are nothing but granny squares or look like over sized doilies =( please help me find classy yet kinda simple patterns.. pictures would help

- Carpet cleaner - get a bristle brush and some carpet cleaner ( resolve works well ) Spray the cleaner on the carpet and after a few minutes brush the stain. It'll come up , it might take a few tries.

- Q: I just replaced my old area rug. The old one was great , I could steam clean it , take it outside and rinse it off and let it air dry. No problems for 4 years, it just got worn out. I replaced it with the same rug from the same store, but the carpet came loose from the backing were I had spot cleaned it. When I vacuumed it pulled out 6 foot of string. I took it back and they replaced it. This new rug, seems a little better, but the backing seems cheap. Is there a way I can re-enforce the backing so the carpet does not come loose from it when I clean it? Would applying carpet seaming adhesive to the entire rug work?
- In most cases it's not going to be cost effective to repair a hand tufted rug. However there are instances where if you have latex glue, you could be able to reinforce the back with a paint roller. Between the trips back and forth to the local hardware store and the supplies needed, it may be advisable to consider the purchase of a new rug. Best of luck!

- Q: You know how bathroom rugs frequently have rubber backing on them? I was to know if there is a way to reapply the rubber backing which has fallen off and cracked due to age. The top of the rug is fine.
- I have done this before and I can honestly tell you that the rubber will crack and leave bit and pieces in the washer a real mess to clean up , so now I wash them in the laundry tub and hang them outside to dry , I also try to purchase new rugs without the rubber backing ,if you need to prevent them from slipping away just buy some backing that is sold by the roll .
- Q: I love my cat, but she will not stop peeing on my den rug. - For starters, your cat is extremely jealous of the pending arrival of your baby - they can sense that there is something going on and they will no longer get the brunt of your attention. As for the rug, there is a smell in it that keeps her coming back, those rug cleaners only mask the smell, but there is probably a soiled spot on the backing of the rug that still holds the smell. Is it possible to roll the rug over and look for a stain underneath? If not, Wal-Mart or a Pet Food place should have a can of stuff called 'Pet Training Spray - it has a smell that revolts them, it is how I keep my 3 cats away from my fish tank. Just spray it on the rug and see what happens, it make take more than one application, but the stuff works wonders for keeping cats away from things. Best of luck!
