Q: I own a Chinese made diesel generator. 10HP, 5kW, which recently stopped putting out power. The generator head has three separate power outputs; 120VAC (#1) 120VAC (#2) and 12VDC for battery charging. All three ceased output simultaneously. I've tried re-exciting or flashing the alternator, which didn't do anything other than make it knock when it generated a magnetic field.I've been told my voltage regulator may have failed, but I have no knowledge of how the AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) on the high-voltage side may work to verify.Ideas? Thanks!
Some have safety fuses or circuit breakers to safeguard Voltage spikes. Check also for a switch which enables the generator once the deisel moter has been started. This link may help as well
Q: i mean from off state to ON State,the amount of diesel it reqiures to burn out.
the injection systems only variable is for the control of rpms during operation. during the start up process rpms are less than operation. yet the system delivers the same amount of fuel as the lowest setting. the fuel system, much like any other machine, is a constant. feed rate and pipe i.d. do not change magically. to throw in more fuel than the cyclinder can take would be destructive. variances can occur during hard starting situations (cold climates). this is the same as the choke on a car. diesels do not have this as they employ whats known as glow plugs which are essentially little plugs inside the cyclinders that preheat the chambers making it easier to start. since locomotives do not use this technique, this is why you will see them idling when not being used in a cold environment. in essence, its a royal b***h to start one when cold. never the less, to accurately know the fuel consumption rate (gph) at start up, you will have to contact the manufacturer to see if these figures are available. highly unlikely they would have these figures as opposed to actual operational gph which is where the do their testing.

A generator is usually powered by a diesel or gas (petrol) engine which powers an alternator to produce mains power for hours provided it is topped up with fuel. A UPS uses a large battery and a high powered inverter circuit to produce mains power but is not expected to power equipment for very long, just long enough to shut them down safely without loss of data.

Water pumps and gas pumps share the name, but that's about all they share. 2. The seals are different 3. the materials are different 4. The construction is different 5. The designs are different The response above is correct. Using a water pump to pump gas is a very BAD idea

It really depends on how old the generator is. In the last 15 years or so the engine/generator controllers came with some of the things you seek. It really depends on the manufacture, (onan, kohler, generac,cat etc.) If your generator control panel is of a digital display you MAY have the capability. If it has dials and guages you probably do not. It can be retro-fit with new generation controllers that will give you what you seek. It would be expensive though,

Q: here in the town i live in we recently had an avalanche take out power transmission lines from our hydro dam in the time it takes them to repair those 90% of our power is coming from diesel generators(you should have cringed there) causing the price per kWh to go up 500% for what might be the next 3 months.currently i make enough that i can live with a bill 5 times higher than im used to, but a couple of years ago that would have got me kicked out of my apartment because there was no way in hell i could find an extra 300 bucks a month with a week or two notice.its been a big deal here, but we are notorious complainers, so im wondering if that situation would cause you to write letters to editors and complain to everyone who will listen all day long?

Q: Can u plz help me to solve following problems:1.After an AC generator has been paralleled explain how the following are achieved for the incoming generator(i)Correct kW load sharing(ii)Correct load current when the generator has a different power factor to the other generators2. the cumulative damage that may be caused when the alternators are incorrectly synchronized3.For alternators operating in parallel the consequences of:(i)reduced torque from the prime mover of one machine(ii)reduced excitation on one machine
1. (i). Each engine should carry the SAME LOAD PERCENTAGE-wise, eg. 80%, to minimize the load change burden on the rest. (Smaller engines may run at full load, since their contribution may go unnoticed.) Since the overall kW bus load is constant, each generator will pickup a percentage of it, by controlling the torque on each prime mover. If it is a steam turbine, by throttling steam flow. If it is a diesel engine, by throttling fuel, and so. (ii). Each alternator should be adjusted to carry the SAME POWER FACTOR, by adjusting excitation accordingly, eg, .85, to avoid stability issues. Running alternators at leading power factors may turn the system unstable and force loss of synchronism 2. Considerable mechanical damage will be caused by incorrect synchronization to windings, shaft and keyways. 3. (i) reducing torque on one a prime mover is done when preparing to take it out of service. This has to be done gradually, so that other machines can pickup the load slowly. When close to unloaded, the generator can be taken off the grid. Power should never be reduced to the point of allowing the generator to be motored, i.e., reverse power flow, which can cause unpredictable damage to the turbine and system instability. (ii) reduced excitation is a very dangerous condition which will cause the power factor to turn leading, i.e., capacitive, weakening the synchronizing torque with possible loss of synchronism and forcing the bus voltage up. .
