Q:Hey guys, I noticed that with heavy use of the power cord to my laptop, a part of the rubber surrounding the cord is open near the insertion part and you can see the wires. I'm just curious how dangerous it is. I don't have another power cord for my laptop, so do any of you have a recommendation for what I can do?
The outer layer of laptop power cables below the rubber is the insulating layer. Little risk there. If you want, you can purchase electrical tape from HomeDepot or local electronics store{(probably), and wrap it around the rip.
Q:I've lost the power cable (and other regular connection cables) for my Dell computer but have some from another computer (but don't know the make of them). This might be a stupid question but..can I use these for my Dell computer or do they need to be Dell cables?
Go ahead and use it, no problem. For the sake of convenience, all PC power cables consists of three wires. .. one for Positive (Phase line), one for negative (Neutral line) and last for Earth. OK, you can also easily make up one if you have the plug connectors.
Q:cables? Power strip? thanks
you will want HDMI cable for each component that has an HDMI connection. ie: cable box, home theater playstation3/xbox 360 whatever you may have the only way to make complete use of your 1080P is to use HDMI for everything you can. Power strip of course is a given. you should be good as long as you have the cables.
Q:hi i found out that the cable power that goes from my wall outlet to my wireless router is broken. so i would like to rip some of the plastic and solder and then put some take so the negative and positve wires do not touch. is it safe to do that? thank you. 10 points to the best answer. god bless you.
If it's the skinny low voltage cable then go ahead. Even if it does come apart the most that will happen it that it will give you a light shock. Probably not even that if it's less than 12 V. Couldn't harm a fly. Hint: cut the positive lead an inch shorter on one wire and same for the negative on the other side. Now your splices aren't next to each other. If the wire is going to be exposed (i.e. not tucked behind the TV), get some heat shrink tubing from Radio Shack or Home Depot to make it look professional and prevent the electrical tape from rubbing off. Just make sure to thread the wire through the heat shrink tubing before you fix the wire! If it's the thick mains cable that plugs directly into the wall, DONT DO IT. That much electricity can actually jump through electrical tape if, say, you step on the wire. Get a new cable and remake the connection inside the box.
Q:What is resistance of the cable (resistivity of copper is1.7x10^-8)Answer is 14 ohms. But please explain how do we get there in full detail.
Resistance (R) of a wire is given by: R = ρ.L / A where (ρ) is the resistivity of the wire in Ω.m ; (A) is the cross sectional area of the cable in m? ; (L) is the length of the wire in metres. Radius (r) of one strand = (0.51 / 2) = 0.255 mm = 0.000255 m Cross sectional area of one strand = πr? = (π * 0.000255?) = 2.0428 x 10^-7 m? Total cross section of cable = (12 * 2.0428 x 10^-7 m?) = 2.45 x 10^-6 m? R = (1.7 x 10^-8 * 2000 / 2.45 x 10^-6) = 13.87 = 14 Ω to 2 significant figures.
Q:I am upgrading a two-year-old higher end HP tower to include a mirrored hard drive. I did a little vacuuming and inspection and plan to order the exact model drive which is in there now. I noticed that the SATA cables used include a simple plastic latching mechanism in the connector. I checked CDW and found quot;latchingcables made by Startech which I assume should work (but the latching part is made of stamped metal). My biggest question is the power connector. The factory installed molex-to-SATA adapter also has this latch mechanism (on the black hard drive side), but I cannot find a cable anywhere mentioning a latch on the power connector. Is this something specific to factory installation? Thanks.
No. Latching cables as you call them are available at retailers. Try Newegg...
Q:I've looked on the internet, but it doesn't seem that the power cable for this printer is sold anywhere! Does anybody know if I'm able to buy it? And if so, where? I'm desperate. I don't want to buy a new printer. Even though this printer, actually, sucks. Let me know..........

Q:I have a Raidmax 730w power supply, and its modular. there is only one plug in for a 6 pin, and the cable has 2 different 6 pins on the same cable. Will this cable be able to run 2 different video cards running XFire? or will is also be able to run say a 6870 that requires 2 6 pin connectors?
You should be able to feed two cards that each require 1 6/8 pin PCI-E power source... or 1 card that requires 2 6/8 pin PCI-E power source. A cable with 6 pin provides 75W power to the card. With the 75W available on the PCI-E x16 slot, that would be a 150W supply. 2 6 pins will up the available wattage to 225W. Cards that require a 6 pin and 8 pin are 300W cards. Your cable/PSU port is designed to provide any of those combinations of power to the videos card(s).
Q:I'm installing a new hard drive and I need an extra power cable. Thing is, I've only got one in my computer (15 pin SATA) I have a spare SATA port for the data, so that's not a problem. Anyone know of any multipliers or some way i can add an extra power cable? Thanks in advance
Yes, okorder
