- Q: I have a massive rug on my floor carpet. We have it because our carpet is maroon and carpet is brighter so during the day and night, the room doesn't look that dark. The problem i am facing is that my rug is sliding/moving (slowly) towards the way we walk. I have tried the Rug Tape that we stick under the rug to give it grip, that did not work.I am wondering what other solutions maybe. I will only Screw my rug to the carpet/floor if that is my only option. Every week, we have to move the swing (indoor), the heavy sofa, bird cage (we have pets) and other furniture to actually fix it and it takes a lot of time. I need multiple options if possible, but hopefully some of you may have had this and found a great solution for it. I am willing to spend money to get this problem Fixed. My option does not include getting rid of the rug.Thank you for helping.
- If you have a sub-floor underneath your carpeting and you rug is a medium to high shag material, then you could use #8 x 1 3/4 pan head screws that will be long enough to go through to the wood sub-floor. Install them every 6 along the perimeter and every 12 within the area that is left. Don't drive them too far in as you want the head of the screw to remain high enough to catch the rug (not pull through). I would normally use staples, but in this case they would just pull out.

There are cleaning solutions that are considered mineral spirit based or chlorinated solvents. The non-water based solutions should only be used by certified cleaning technicians because of the nature of the chemicals. My recommendation, which may be the simplest solution, is to take it to a dry cleaner. They are licensed to use chlorinated solvents and will not harm your rug. Make sure to tell them the nature of the rug and the stain.
