Q:Someone gave me an old chair. Looks cool in a vintage way, but some of the upholstery is worn. This may be a dumb question. But can any idiot reupholster or do you need special training? Are there any cheap ways to cover furniture? For example, I did a search and found a lot of decorative furniture tacks? What are these exactly. Since I have no upholstery experience, I was thinking of buying some cool looking fabric and tack it on the chair? Is that a dumb idea? Also, do furniture tacks stay put? I don't want them falling on the floor and me or my pets getting tacks in our feet.: There okorder I remember seeing two or three tutorials on upholstering. They seemed very detailed and helpful. I tried to do this myself, but the chair was so old that it just made a huge mess when I tried to take off the existing upholstery - dust, fabric particles everywhere. Good luck, I hear it's not easy.

Q:Anyone else does this? After about 10-15 minutes of sitting on a chair, I notice my butt is right on the edge, so I have to stand up and sit again properly. Getting very annoying.: Lol i do exactly that!! i think its probably that our back is too straight when sitting properly, so we adjust ourself unconciously to sit more comfortable although is not good for the back. But you have to stand up and sit properly again as that position starts to get uncomfortable. An on going process!! Lol best of luck.

Q:So i need a new chair/recliner for my house, and i came up with this idea. I could get a car's front seat from a junk yard, and turn it into a chair. I was wondering what i should do/use for the legs of the chair. Also i imagine that it will be back heavy and topple backwards easy. Please help!-Thanks.: I made a chair out of a Dodge mini van seat- Captain chair type- I used 2x6's for the side rails just about as wide as the seat drilled 3/4 holes in the 2x6's make them 12longer than the chair in front and the same in back- mine recline-this will let you recline without hitting the wall, use 1/2 black iron pipe run them through the 3/4 holes My chair has hooks on the bottom to lock it in place, now cover the 2x6 with cloth or leather and they are comfortable, Mine is in my shop and I even take naps in it . Q:I have a gig with my band and we need something to use as an amp stand. i was thinking a foldable chair would work the best, help?: Most likely not, if it's a stage amp. You're going to be making a lot of noise (assumably for a long time!) and the vibrations tend to move things about, even things as big as amps on chairs. It'd just be better to lay it down on the floor. If you really want it risen above the ground, try using something more stable, like a table or stool.

Q:i am painting the inside of my condo, and i had an idea, but i am not sure if it works or not. from our couch, directly across on the other wall is the tv, to the right of it is the stairwell to the 2nd floor, so you can see it from the couch. i was thinking of painting the wall that the TV is on (which is a small wall) an accent color, and then, having a chair rail go up the stairwell, with that same accent color from the chair rail to the floor. I was wondering if i need to get a thin chair rail to do this , so it doesnt look too wierd 6 - 8'' above the railing. does this even sound like an idea that could work? HELP!: Actually, what you are creating is a wainscotting and yes the idea will look lovely. Step back from the stair case, can you see through the railing? How large is the banister and railings? This will optically tell you the size of chair rail thickness you will need. If the banister is bulky, use a larger chair rail to balance it and so that visually it rises just above the height of the bannister to add bulk and so that you don't use a size that disappears against it. By using the same color up the stairs that you use on the TV wall, you are anchoring that end of the room which will give it more presence. Great project, sounds fun!
