Q:we have to make a news paper chair only useing 2 thursdays papers and 6ft of duck tape: I would recommend starting by separating sheets of paper and rolling them individually, really tightly. This actually creates a super strong element, and secure it by using a little piece of tape. Once you have several tightly rolled sheets (maybe about 1/2 diameter) then you can start assembling them. Be creative here, you may have to do trial and error to see what works the best. Maybe grouping thirty rolls and taping together can create the base/stool part (you may want to add more depending on how big the chair will be or how much paper you have left). RIDICULOUS!: You have to look at the chair in its original context. Look at other furniture from 1929 and you won't see anything else like the Barcelona chair. Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich were pioneers for designing this chair from heir choice of materials, minimal lines, construction (stainless steel had just been developed). When properly built to original specs, it takes a lot of high quality materials and skilled labor to produce -- around 28 hours of labor is involved. $3900 is not much for 28 hours of labor considering all the sales people, craftsmen, managers, suppliers, delivery people, laborers needed to build and move one chair. Plus all those people require work buildings, offices, insurance, cars/trucks, phones... etc. $3900 only gets you the cheaper model, there is one made of higher grade materials at $6,000. When the chair was originally designed, it did not sell for that dollar amount, the price has been adjusted for inflation, but it still was not cheap back then, it is and will always be an exclusive item. Surely, the chair can be mass-produced by machine now and sold for cheap at Target, but then it wouldn't be an exclusive item anymore. BMW and Lexus could cheapen their products for everyone to have, but then, why bother? There are Corollas and Ford Focus for the ones who don't want to/can't spend the money. By the way, it's not a simple chair at all, it's very complex, it just looks simple because in the past 7 decades, other chair designers were inspired by that iconic design. It;s iconic because it was ground-breaking, an original thought at the time. To say it is simple is to say paper is simple... yes it sort of is, but it took humans millions of years to get around to inventing it.

Help me! :(: Well first of all I don't believe your fear of sitting in an electric chair is abnormal. You couldn't tempt me into one either! It was used as a symbol for death for many many years here in the US. It was held up as the ultimate price one would pay for doing something serious against the law. So the fear was ingrained in us even as little folks. I don't know your age, but my generation sure wanted nothing to do with the electric chair, and all the ugliness that goes with it. Do you have a fascination with death, as I notice the name you use here on YAN is Korpsie, and that is like asking for trouble. Why would you entertain such a name, when you claim to be afraid of the electric chair? It doesn't jive! It doesn't make sense to me. Your fear, or fascination, with death has overtaken your belief system. It has frightened you so much you are not even willing to sit in ordinary chairs. That is the irrational fear (not the electric chair!) Try to desensitize yourself by allowing yourself to sit in a sofa, or couch, and then move on to a few minutes in a chair, and then keep on doing that until your fear eventually goes away. You may need some therapy to deal with this problem. You spoke of bad dreams about electrical chairs. You know dreams are symbolic? Try to remember your exact dream, as then we can ferret out the real reason you are afraid of an electric chair. Earlier in your Life were you electrocuted by live wires of some sort?
