Q: How about giving a testimony on this chair?
I had a lazy boy chair. As a matter of fact two of them. Had to get one for that women that stays here. We had them for years. Mine was bent and broke down Juuussst the way I wanted it. I could flop down on that thing and you would hear BONG, PING, CRACK. Until it just had no other direction to BONG,PING, OR CRACK. I spent a lot of time with that old chair. I would head for that thing and fall asleep before I got there. Yes sir, some gooooood naps in that old girl. I even had a name for it I called it L.B. Now my wife's chair was like brand new. Clean, soft, etc. She didn't even have a stain on that thing. It wasn't even broke in. I mean mine had just the right spot for my butt and was kind of leaning to the right. I mean when you would lean back it was kind of like one of them bull riders trying to hang on for 8 sec. Took about that long to get her just right. My wife ain't no bigger than a good size G. nat, you know, one of those pesky little things you see buzzin around what the hogs left behind? So I think that is why her chair was perfect....so she said. WHY ON EARTH IS YOUR CHAR SO TORE UP? seemed to be a nightly question when she heard the BONG,PING,CRACK of mine gettin in position. Why she sat on hers and all you heard was......................Thats right, nothin. Well long story short I came home one day and (sniff) old L.B. was gone. Out side on the burn pile. It was to late. Nothin but spings and charcoal. I held a little service for old L.B. we was close. She still has hers. I can't set in the same room with her. Can't do it. One day I'll have L.B. JR. but I'll put it the shed. Yup,I'll set on it and think about old L.B. and have some more good naps.
Q: I used to have a computer chair (wal-mart brand) that I used for so long that the cushioning started migrating away from my butt and legs to where it felt like I was sitting on a piece of wood.I bought a new one and I tried every single chair the store had (Office Depot) and this one feels awesome. It was one of their most expensive ones so I want to make sure it lasts and the cushion doesn't migrate away from my butt again.
If the chair was one of their most expensive ones, then hopefully the chair will hold up just fine, butt again I could be wrong. Make sure your weight is evenly distrubuted in the chair don't sit on the edge of it.
Q: tell me your favorite story about you sitting in a chair..
Nice comfortable chair
Q: I've play flute for 8 years now, piccolo for 6. Last year when playing for chairs I got 2nd chair. I got absolutely no solos nor piccolo parts. Being my sophomore year, I didn't mind all that much. Our flute section leader was first chair. Now this year she is drum major. We played for chair with a new band director and I got 2nd chair once again, while she got 1st. I've asked to challenge but I don't know if I will be allowed to or not. When I asked last year I was gently told no. Saying all that, every time we have played for chairs I knew for a fact that I could easily beat her and become 1st chair but the band directors keep giving me 2nd. I don't know what to do. I know for a fact she's planing on once again not giving me any solos nor piccolo parts. It's really bumming me down. What should I do?
Here's a story. I was in high school, in the late 70's early 80's. A tall guy, playing flute in band. Pretty good too, as when all others were mastering smoke on the water I was trying to dig into the works of John Coltrane. As with you, I knew I could terrorize the the 1st chair flute position, yet I was never a wise guy. In my case, it was favoritism, as I played circles around the first chair occupants through my years in high school. I know this to be true, because 20+ year class reunions often reveal some history..funny stuff. My band directors didn't like the fact that what they were trying to teach, I and a couple others were well beyond. One guy who really got the raw end of the deal, by these same band directors, is a world famous trumpeter currently. Yes, encouragement is suppose to be a quality of teaching yet isn't always there. And..It is possible you may not actually deserve it...yet! Maybe the band directors are approaching and dealing with you wrong or visa-versa. Maybe the first chair occupant is a bit better by some fashion, maybe not. You being your own judge is tough and maybe not as accurate as you think. In my situation, I had a somewhat overwhelming amount of adult professional musician folk disclose some positive opinions of my playing back then. If your case is similar, just ride the wave. If your case is dissimilar, just ride the wave. If music is a strong desire of yours, high school may have only a minor if any influence. There are many other venues, if you have skills and determination, you'll get it your story out. Plug on! Cheers and good luck.
Q: My son recently participated in a regional honor band. The band consisted of 28 trumpets. They had to audition for placement. Placement ranged from 1st trumpet/1st to 7th chair, 2nd trumpet/1st to 7th chair, 3rd trumpet/1st to 7th chair and 4th trumpet/1st to 7th chair. Can anyone explain to me where he stood ability-wise within the group of 28? He was 1st trumpet/7th chair. Thank you.
1st trumpets are usually the ones who play the higher notes, so more skilled. So he ranks pretty high :)
Q: I want a chair like the one in the link but i need it for a cheaper price because im going to buy two. any ideas?
try Big Lots or Walmart
Q: I need a chair with 4 legs not 5 and no arms.
Yes... you can still get desk chairs with only 4 legs, and no arms. You can find them at department stores, office supply stores, etc. (OfficeMax, Office Depot, Sam's Club, Staples, Target, WalMart, etc) I will say this much.... a chair with 5 legs is more stable than a 4 leg chair....less likely to tip over. When I have a choice between the two... I get the 5 leg chair. Another option might be to consider a kitchen/dining chair. Happy Shopping
Q: I have terrible posture and im tall so i hunch over in my chair on my desk....i have been getting horrible low back pain in my spine so i was wondering if anyone has used the ball to sit on and if it has helped them any

Q: I have a stupid fear of electric chairs due to some bad dreams about sitting in one. I'm not a bad person in the death row or anything; I just have an irrational fear. I can't even look at an image of an electric chair without getting nauseous or fainting. Because of this I don't really like sitting in any chairs. Help me! :(
Well first of all I don't believe your fear of sitting in an electric chair is abnormal. You couldn't tempt me into one either! It was used as a symbol for death for many many years here in the US. It was held up as the ultimate price one would pay for doing something serious against the law. So the fear was ingrained in us even as little folks. I don't know your age, but my generation sure wanted nothing to do with the electric chair, and all the ugliness that goes with it. Do you have a fascination with death, as I notice the name you use here on YAN is Korpsie, and that is like asking for trouble. Why would you entertain such a name, when you claim to be afraid of the electric chair? It doesn't jive! It doesn't make sense to me. Your fear, or fascination, with death has overtaken your belief system. It has frightened you so much you are not even willing to sit in ordinary chairs. That is the irrational fear (not the electric chair!) Try to desensitize yourself by allowing yourself to sit in a sofa, or couch, and then move on to a few minutes in a chair, and then keep on doing that until your fear eventually goes away. You may need some therapy to deal with this problem. You spoke of bad dreams about electrical chairs. You know dreams are symbolic? Try to remember your exact dream, as then we can ferret out the real reason you are afraid of an electric chair. Earlier in your Life were you electrocuted by live wires of some sort? Something happened to make you very wary of electricity. Try hard to remember what it was, and then tell it to take a hike, because it's messing with your Life. OK? Good luck to you!
Q: The nitrogen gas in present in the chair cylinder. However what keep chair at mid position, between highest and lowest position? Is there a valve that prevents chair from coming up any further from mid position. Also if it at the lowest point that then gas is fully compressed. what prevents it from pushing upward as I'm seating. Thanks in advance
The way a gas spring chair works is that the piston inside the cylinder contains a valve, which lets nitrogen gas pass from one side of the cylinder to the other (see the link below for a diagram). The compression is created because of the volume of the piston rod being introduced into the cylinder, but at all times the pressure on either side of the piston is the same. The lever on the underside of the seat opens the valve in the piston. If you sit on the chair but don't pull the lever, the gas in the piston cannot flow through the valve, so piston remains extended. When you pull that lever, the valve opens and allows gas to flow across the piston, so the piston is able to move down and the gas is compressed. When the chair is at half-height and the lever is released, the valve closes, preventing the piston from moving either way, because the pressures are equal on either side (the pressure in the cylinder is so great that the extra pressure added by sitting on the chair is tiny by comparison). When the chair is at its lowest, the compressed gas is all above the piston, holding it down. It's only when the valve is opened that gas can flow to the other side to raise it.
