Q:If I find a carpet remnant I like at a carpet store, for example, will they cut it to the size I want or will I be stuck with whatever size they have?Will binding the remnant be sufficient to use as an area rug or will I need something else?
You bind an edge on carpet when you are trying to use it as a free lay throw rug. It keeps it from unraveling. There are several methods but extremely hard for a Do-It-Yourselfer to do on a piece THAT SIZE. An 8x10 carpet was cut or intended to go into a full room (probably a bedroom). The normal installation with pad would have stretched it to an edge strip called a stretcher' or nailer. In commercial / office, it would probably have been glued directly to the subfloor. Carpet is made by looping the dyed color strands thru a woven jute (usually jute) grid. Once the grid is cut to fit in a space there is nothing holding the jute from coming unwoven. Making a throw rug is the same until the edge where a bead is sewn onto the jute. It keeps the jute backing from unraveling. So, methods: 1. you can take it to a carpet shop and they can sew in the binder bead for you. 2. you can try running a stitch around the edge yourself. You'll need a carpet needle and some jute. It'll take you a week or so to stitch the edge. Before you do this, think about that bead. The raw edge of a carpet is not that pretty. The bead looks tons better. Take a look next chance at the edge of a simple throw rug. 3. Years ago, I used to weave small (2' x 3') throw rugs. In that world, they used a rubber cement poured thickly onto the backing when it was totally upside down. It took a few days for it to thoroughly dry that thick. As small throw rugs, it bound the backing weave AND provided a skid resistence when it was turned back over in use. The problems with the rubber cement idea are going to be significant for a piece that size. Containment of the liquid gooey glue at the edge will be a real issue while you're pouring it. Being able to lay out something that size for a few days will be a problem. And, it doesn't last very long. Movement against the sub-floor will ball up the rubber cement. Personally, I'd seek out a carpet shop that could install the edge bead. Hope that all helps you. .
Q:I have a brown sofa, light oak floor, blue floral accented curtains and sea foam walls, white ceiling, with creamy/ white trim. I have no idea what i should do i have a burgundy and cream shag rug that's kinda a woven pattern that i think looks good but i don't have a very good eye for matching colors.
Beige, try it, I just bought one for my room.
Q:Do i need to use a carpet stretcher to install carpet.If i don't use one will it still work alright
The stretcher is a key component. Without the stretcher you could end up with wrinkles in the carpet and the edges may pose a problem.
Q:what rug would look good with this? Not too expensive please!

Q:My dog threw up on my carpet, so i used a shampooer on my carpet to get it out. it helped alot, but i can still see a little yellow. does anyone have any tips on how to get the rest of the color out WITHOUT leaving white bleach stains on my carpet??? thanks(:
Keep okorder ., for your part of the country. Stain Magic is only available to professional carpet/upholstery cleaners as it should be extracted after use. Take care of your expensive carpet investment, call a pro for difficult carpet cleaning problems.
Q:how to prevent the carpet paved outside from blowing up by the wind.
Has adhesive force,. You can fix it with a carpet liner.
Q:WHAT GETS MOLD OUT OF CARPETS AND WALLS??CAN YOU GET THE CARPETS CLEANED AND PROFESSIONALS AND ITLL BE GONE?AND CAN YOU JUST SCRUB THE WALLS WITH BLEACH? WOULD THAT WORK??AND WHATS THE BETTER KIND OF CARPET CLEANING? STEAM CLEAN OR quot;CHEMDRYquot;

Q:I really can't find any info on installation online. I have even been at hardware sites and was given a generic explanation. Do you remove your old carpet?
I`m with Wheeza on the first part, however, for actual installation Start on the walls that will be *Seen* first when you enter the room. That way your pieces won`t be as visible esp if the walls are not square and you have a 3 inch piece at one end and 6 inches at the other end (don`t laugh, it happens). You can use Any carpet glue available at Home Depot and as Wheezer says, hardware stores using a notched trowel. Don`t spread too thick `tho or it will smush up through your tiles esp if thin and make a heck of a mess. Just make sure it`s not flammable. My brother and I set fire to a kitchen once not realizing the stuff was flammable. When the fumes hit the water heater it spread over the floor where I was spreading and up the walls (old house with flammable paint/thinner used) quicker than we could blink. Hope this helps. I`m sure it will be pretty (: Need any tips on how to trim it or anything? RT
Q:How can I get my carpet back to its normal color? I have a beige carpet and we mixed to much bleach to get the stains up so i have a couple of bleach spots..
The bleach spot is permanent unfortunately. You've stripped the dye out. If you're talking wall to wall carpet you might want to call a carpet installer and ask if there is a dye you can use to re-dye it back to as close as possible to its natural color. Mind you, I have never heard of this, just a shot in the dark and have no idea if they would have something like that. But I should think calling a professional carpet dealer/installer would be your only hope. Otherwise, as the other poster said, lay a throw or area rug over it if at all possible.
Q:I've never heard of carpet tile. How do you install them and what are the advantages/disadvantages compared to a roll of carpet?Are the tiles cheaper? Easier?
Some hotels and even my Grandpa's nursing home are installing carpet tiles because of the ease of repairs - make a spot just lift up and replace the tile (not the whole carpet). But, in my Grandpa's nursing home the carpet tiles are fraying at the edges and it is pretty noticeable that the carpet is just carpet tiles because you can see each edge is....fluffy. Is that a good description? The fringe looks tacky. I think regular carpet would last longer. Especially if it's a high traffic area - or if it will ever get cleaned with a carpet cleaner - carpet cleaners really tear up the tiles. Seems like a huge waste of money to me.
