- Q:Does anyone have any links to a SPECIFIC area rug that will go with a black sofa? I have an apt with medium brown wood pallette floors, and white walls. ANY help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
- You're in luck, ANYTHING will go with black, medium, and white!! What other major accessories do you have? A painting? A lamp? SOMETHING with some color? OR: Do it up with the rug! GO willy-nilly with a new rug, define your area, and then accessorize AFTER the rug is in!! Good luck; I'm sure it'll look GREAT!
- Q:Where can I buy cheap carpet tiles?
- If you find some cheap carpet tile, let me know. There is not a carpet tile here in my store that is less than $25 per square yard. ($2.78/sf).
- Q:I want to clean our carpets, but I have a 10 month old who is crawling everywhere and I don't want to use a harsh chemical cleaner. I have a Bissell Carpet Cleaner. Any suggestions on what I can put in it to clean the carpets that won't ruin the machine, but is baby friendly? Thanks
- You could simply use white vinegar in place of carpet shampoo. Your house will smell like salad for a little while but the smell will dissipate. For tough set in stains, spray lemon juice on them, wait about 10 minutes, then use your Bissel to remove the stain. Here's a cleaning tip I use: After cleaning your carpets, wipe the whole area with an old towel or baby blanket. It only takes a few minutes and will greatly speed the drying time and remove any dirt that was not sucked up by your Bissell.
- Q:I just looked at a fantastic apartment...but it has this horrible brown shag rug in the main room! It just looks way too retro and reminds me of my grandparent's basement rec. room. The landlord said the apartment could be painted (it would have to be painted back when we left) and right now the walls are all white. What can I do to bring this room into 2007? I was thinking of a nice brown accent wall, or even painting the window trim....any ideas are welcomed!
- I think shags are in style again. I saw on HGTV the decorator put a brand spanking new shag rug in an apartment. Love your shag rug! Go native with safari-feel khaki or sand colored walls, heavy dark accessories, and plenty of lighter tan colors to balance such as pillows, etc. Chocolate curtains with tan sheers in between. That's what I see for your room. Be sure and put in a great big green plant or two. Don't get so jungle-y that it looks artificial, but do hang an old looking world map on one wall and maybe a nice little jute or other sisal rug under your coffee table to define your conversation area. Don't forget a few punches of bold color such as red in some of your accessories and a few of your pillows. Think of parrots, bright and bold. sounds like fun to me!!
- Q:I need to replace my 45 year old carpet. It is showing it's age. But one thing that has never been done is having it re stretched. Not one wrinkle. It lays as flat and tight as the day it was put in. So this beings up the question. quot;Should a properly installed wall to wall carpet ever need to be re stretched?quot; I have noticed many carpets in newer homes that are all wrinkled. And many people I've talked with after installing carpet need to have it stretched again, sometimes more then twice. Is this an inherent problem with what the carpets are made of now days? By the way my carpet is wool.
- As your 1 st poster stated, even the best of carpet or the best of installed carpet could possible need a restretch. Its rare but it does happen. You had a good carpet in wool and the backing when that was made is much different than the ones made today. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. gL
- Q:How many carpet types do you recommend?
- The colors of the carpet are red, blue, green, yellow, purple, brown, and various colors. The color of the fiber determines the shape of the carpet.Exhibition carpet varieties: flat, stripe, laminating, brushed and flame retardant.
- Q:How to deal with the oil stain on the carpet after being absorbing by flour?
- Since it has been absorbed by flour, then you'd better dry the carpet in the sun, or use the hair dryer to blow it, then along the direction of the wool carpet, brush the flour attached on the carpet, vacuum surface grinding, doing this for several tiimes. . . . .
- Q:Hi, I am considering byung a rug for the living room where my child will be able to play/crall in couple of months. What do you recommend. Quality? Type? Any suggestions? What not to buy? Thanks
- I would suggest something very soft, easy to clean and large. I wouldn't go with braided. Try K-mart, they have some nice rugs at decent prices and if the baby spills or spits up then you don't have to worry about how much money you spent on it. Make sure the backing is one that doesn't slip. If it does, make sure you buy the stuff the put on the back to keep it from sliding. I saw that at walmart the other day.
- Q:I just bought an area rug from Home Depot. It is wool with a fabric backing and they have used a glue that I have had problems with on other rugs. It smells so bad, that is all I can smell when I walk into that room. I smelled the sample piece when I ordered it and it didn't smell. I have gotten rid of other rugs in the past that never lost the smell. Now What?
- Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) is great for absorbing odours. Sprinkle on the rug (the reverse as well as the front if necessary) leave for a couple of hours and vacuum off. You can also put a few drops of your favourite essential oil onto the rug to freshen up the smell. Also, as daft as it sounds, to get rid of chemical smells from the room itself such as glue, paint etc peel an onion, chop it in half and cover it with water, leave it in the room overnight and it will absorb the smell (don't ask me why this works but it does!) Hope this helps!
- Q:how to prevent rugs from bunching up in the center?
- You okorder but have not used it yet although it does look more promising than the rubber-looking black mesh pads! (We have those now and our rugs slide across the linoleum surface still).
