- Q: I am remodeling a room and I'm not sure if I should put in the baseboard or the carpet first. Also, if the baseboard is first how much of a clearance does the carpet need to get tucked under?
- base board frist 1/2off floor or you can wait and put it on after 1/8 about above the carpet
- Q: Something that really ties the room together.
- Depending on what your budget is, HOM furniture has some really great rugs that are higher quality, or IKEA also has some good stuff that's just more casual, and some fairly good fancy/oriental rugs too.
- Q: It started out as a small black printer ink on the carpet. I tried to use WD40, then Jax, now it looks like a giant orange/light black circle! How can I get rid of this? PLEASE HELP ME!
- Too late.. Jax bleached the carpet and the WD40 put an oil stain on top of that. Usually one would use rubbing alcohol to clean ink. Soak, blot, blot, blot. until clean. Only suggestion I have now is to cut a square chunk of carpet out of your closet (or from a remnant you've saved) that is just larger than your large spot. Lay the square over your spot and use it as a template to cut a matching square out of the offending area. Pull out the piece with the stain. Use carpet tape and put it along the inside edges of the square you just cut out of the carpet field... allow half of the carpet tape to hang And press your new square in. Next time don't panic... Ask first then try to fix.
- Q: What if I went to Home Depot and bought a sheet of rubber cut to just a bit less than 8' x 10' and then a piece of felt the same size - glue them together and pop the area rug on top?Would that work?
- Hi Blue Eyed Homo, I am a flooring associate that works at The Home Depot, and I know that some rug pads seem to be expensive, especially in your size. I've worked in other departments and been with the company for almost 10 years and I have yet to see a sheet of rubber that will sell in the store other than pan liner for tubs that would work in your situation. Also, you won't find at our store pieces of felt in that size. Plus, felt just won't be able to grip the rug properly especially if you have a hardwood floor. Did you check around your local stores flooring department? I think I may have a less expensive solution for you. Carpet padding, not rug pad, but the kind ppl place under their carpets. It may not look pretty but its made to not be seen anyway and it works great for big area rugs your size. Home Depot sells carpet pad in pre-cut 6ft. by 9ft. rolls or have your flooring associate there cut out a size for you. Bottom line....the carpet pad will be way less expensive than the rug pads we sell, and you'll still have a slip resistant surface for your new area rug for years to come. Hope this helps, aboveaveragejoe
- Q: My mother recently passed away. I had prepaid her rent for a full year. The bedroom had several stains on it and I recognize the carpet needed to be replaced, and I'm OK with paying for it. The bedroom is around 200 square feet in Connecticut. The landlord took the opportunity to replace the carpet with hardwood. He told me the carpet would have cost $600 installed but he paid extra for the hardwood out of his own pocket. The carpet that was there previously was the cheapest contractor grade material you can imagine. I have a hard time believing it cost $600 at $3 a square foot for cheap carpet installed. Should I be pressing this? I figured it would be $300 - $400, max, for similar off-white basic carpet.
- The law allows for normal wear of carpets. If the carpets were ruined then you are responsible for replacing them. You can ask the landlord for a copy of the estimate to replace the carpets but I am guessing $600 is reasonable for material and labor for 200 square feet.
- Q: We bought our house 2 months ago. We didn't mind the carpet. It is very nice carpet. However, the house was built in 1955 and has origional hardwood floors under the carpet. Here is the problem... it looks like there are hardwoods, a new sub floor and the carpet. My concern is that removing the sub floor will ruin the floors under. What has your expirance been?
- After having just removed the carpeting in my house, I can tell you this: if they put a subfloor on top of hardwood, there was something wrong with the hardwood. It is not necessary in order to lay carpet. Padding and tack boards are all that are needed--which really don't ruin the hardwood. (You may want to fill a few nail holes from the tack strips.) Lots of houses have hardwood that is only finished around the edges--if you pull up the subfloor and find unfinished board flooring, that's one reason they laid the subfloor. Another reason might be that there was bad damage to the hardwood which made it uneven. A finished hardwood floor rarely needs subfloor for carpeting unless it is damaged or otherwise totally unusable as hardwood flooring. Since your house was built in 1955, it could have very badly damaged floors. There is only one way to check that--pull up the carpet in a corner, and the subfloor under that--and check. If the floors are not damaged, then the only damage will be from nail holes--which can be filled, sanded and revarnished.
- Q: Difference between synthetic fiber and blended carpet
- Artificial fiber refers to some acrylic fibernylon blended, wool adds a certain proportion of nylon or acrylic fiber blanket original enhanced corrosion resistance chemical fiber material
- Q: My wife and I have a 5' X 7' area rug which we want to dye brown. It's a deep pile wool rug and the fibers are dense. How does one go about this? We would have it done professionally but there are no skilled people where we live. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
- We hired a company that specializes in dyeing rugs. They have all the equipment needs and know the correct dyes to use.
- Q: I keep a super clean litter box, sometimes she goes in it sometimes she doesn't. The bath rug is literally a foot away from her litter box. She's 1yrs old, fixed and is good behaved except for that. Ive washed the rugs, got new ones, tried different material rugs, everything... the rugs have all had rubber backing. I remember I had a rug w/ out the rubber backing I don't think she pee'd on that 1. Could it be the rubber or something? We moved a few months back could that be a reason?
- A good friend is doctor for pets! And told me...This means that she may have been confused cause you moved back! But usually it is a medical problem with her stomach!Look out for this because you may not understand anything and then it wiil be late! There is a disease in cats when they got that they never get well!Go her to the doctor........
- Q: i have to write a paper about the prayer rug what can i write about need help, thanks
